80%/20% Ground Chuck

The 80%/20% Ground Chuck is very good ground beef and a very good value. We divide the ten-pound log into one-pound portions and bag them with Ziploc bags. The beef freezes and thaws well. It's good in hamburgers, meat loaf, soups, and more. Wonderful flavor and texture.

Worst ground beef - Ever

I recently purchased this 80/20 ground beef chub as I have many times. I do not know what has happened to Sam's Club meat department in Mansfield, Texas and how sanitary they are now. After cooking and consuming this ground beef the first bite I felt something in my mouth that was not right. I immediately spit out a most gross something that I do not know what it was, and I do not mean a piece of plastic or something that I would recognize. This gross thing was about 1 1/2 inches long and about half that wide and obviously did not go through a meat grinder. In other words, it was added to this meat after it was ground and during packaging. Either someone is not sanitary in packaging, or maybe it was intentional, I do not know. Never again will I purchase any beef product in this club.

Soggy Beef?!?!?!

They used to carry a better brand/type for their 80/20 that was MUCH better (like EXCEL). Their 80/20 comes from National now and is a FINE Ground Chuck, so the texture is way off from where it needs to be. This National brand product is good for making meat for tacos, spaghetti, Hamburger Helper etc., but it's terrible for making burgers. The burgers have a strange soft and crumbly texture to them. Sometimes when we get it, the chub is extremely limp and squishy. When opened and used.....the beef feels like it has been soaked in something for too long and is "soggy" (watered down for weight?). They need to go back to Excel or find another product, that doesn't have these issues.

Not Great

This was my first time buying ground beef from Sam’s - NEVER AGAIN. I always buy large chubs of ground beef, cook it all and then freeze it in smaller portions. This meat is not great - there are so many un-chewable bits - GROSS! In a small bowl of noodles or one taco there would be 4-5 bits to spit out. Very disappointing.

A little concerned.

Good price, but I'm not sure about this stuff lately. I just bought some, and it has lots of little white specks of something in it. I've never seen any ground beef (or meat of any kind) look like this. Kinda strange. Looks like some kind of filler? I hope it's not contamination of some kind. I'll post a Pic if I can.

Too fatty for 80/20. More like 70/30.

I bought a 10 pound roll just 3 days ago and cut it into 1-pound sections. With a pound of 80/20 I buy at the local grocer, I get 3 hamburger patties large enough to fit on a large hamburger bun after cooking. But when I made 3 patties out of this, they shrunk to where they covered a small hamburger bun and left a lot of fat in the pan. Not as lean as stated on package, IMO. I recommend it for price and taste only.

Sam’s Meat Fan

I LOVE this ground meat. I buy the whole tube. The butcher at my store will slice into 1/3 lb burgers. I freeze four in each ziplock bag and I can use at a later date for burgers, meatballs and spaghetti, hamburger helper...whatever! I can cook burgers from frozen, by throwing in skillet with a few tablespoons of water. They cook up beautifully, within 20 minutes. This is my absolute favorite ground meat!

VERY Disappointing!

I bought a tube of the 20% - 80% ground beef today. Made a big patty & tossed it on the grill.  VERY Disappointing!  My 1 burger had 5 chunks of bone in it and the flavor wasn't much either.  Normally Sam's meat is at least about normal quality.  Now I have 9.5 lbs. of dog food, I wouldn't serve it to anyone I know.

Best price for good ground beef.

Its definitely worth buying the bulk package and cook it all up at once. We make our hamburger patties, meatballs, meatloafs, and loose meat in a day then freeze it. Depending on the price difference we either get the 80% or 90%, cook it thoroughly, drain the grease, rinse under cold water and dry it. It makes it better for freezing/freeze drying and its healthier too!
