Turbo Tax for Retired tax payer

Turbo Tax is much easier than filling out a paper documents. Also, the questions that the IRS ask now are much more complicated than in previous years. Turbo Tax gives great explanations on how to fill out the form and instructions on why the questions are asked.

TurboTax-Makes Filing Easy

Easy to Use! Gather all the financial forms sent to you by your various financial institutions. Then, use the “Easy Steps” section of TurboTax to enter the financial data from each institution. Before filing the TurboTax program will check for errors and, if any are found, show you what needs to be corrected. Simply make the necessary corrections and follow the remaining steps to file your return.

TurboTax is no longer any good

The end process SUCKS! 1. I can't file an extension within the desktop app, 2. I have to e-file, but there is nothing to indicate I'm filing an extension, 3. You allow electronic filing a State extension, but nothing indicating such at the time of e-filing, 4. The forced, extended e-file payment planned is not reflected in the filing itself on the State extension, 5. I have to fill in the remaining amount if I plan to send 90% by the end of the week electronically. 6. There are no instructions in the app about filing extensions 7. the instructions on the website about filing an extension leave one confused.

Couldn't buy any extras!

I've always had a good experience with Turbo Tax until this year; I could not add a state because the program would not allow me to log into intuit to pay for it; Then I could not E-file my return because the program would not allow me to log into intuit to pay for it. the first issue was resolve by great support staff-the second issue, I just gave up & mailed the return-MANY HOURS OF MY LIFE I'll NEVER GET BACK!

TurboTax is a mixed bag accuracy wise

TurboTax made a serious error in how it calculated my tax liability. I'll have to now make a separate estimated tax payment on the IRS's website. I was hoping for better given how expensive the software is. I'll be exploring my options next year when tax time comes again.

Good Product, just needs larger text option!

Turbo Tax worked very well for us again this year. My only complaint is that the MAC version does not allow you to zoom-in to make the text larger. I adjusted my preferred font size through the system settings (accessability) and it was still very small! There was no option to adjust the text size for TurboTax in the system settings.

TurboTax Overall Easy to Use with Some Exceptions

Turbo Tax Premier was generally easy to follow with helpful information in the links. Some of the explanations provided were hard to understand. The ones that caused me the most trouble this year were the questions about my mortgage loan. One way resulted in a standardized deduction and a large tax bill (for me). The other way resulted in itemized deductions and federal and state refunds in the same ballpark as previous years. The other issue was the difference between IRA reporting to the US vs the State of CA "worksheet". It wasn't clear whether it was referring to a difference in Fed and State taxable amounts of the IRA distribution or the difference in the actual amount of federal and state taxes paid on the distribution. It also did not explain whether it made any difference as to whether it was an inherited IRA. I found it very confusing.

Good, could be better

I use TT every year because I need to itemize. This year I was finally able to add loss from my wife's parent's estate sale. We had 2 years of carryover losses, however, since we maxed out the loss, these didn't matter. To complicate things, we have to split the loss with my SIL, she has her taxes done by a H+R Block pro. My 3-star review is due to how difficult entering this data was. Please improve this area where multiple forms (worksheets) for Schedule D are needed.

Deteriorating over the years

Quality of Turbotax over the years 2017-2023 it was always increasing, last few years it has reduced AGI of last year is always incorrect and returns get rejected and we have to re-file 1099 Stocks drag and drop option is not available which is a pain.

not sure if i trust it

I have never had to file quarterly, aways had an end of year W2. After going through all the steps i got a message saying that I had an underpayment penalty of $293 for underestimating my 2023 quarterly tax. As a result, the new amount from the tax I owed jumped over $1000. I double checked my work, and it was good. I backed up and went through the steps again, same result. I pushed forward and it started asking for information that I didn't have. When I got stuck, I went back again to where it all started and no longer got the underpayment penalty message. Additionally, when I would enter income from a long-term capital gain my tax would increase by 19% with each entry instead of 15%.
