I like that it navigates you through the most important things one step at the time and that I can go back and fine tune if needed. I took 2 stars off because TurboTax had a problem saving my Return for my records, no matter what I tried it just would not save it.

It seems Turbo Tax hasn't changed much in the last few years. There are still a few areas that are cumbersome, like Foreign Tax Credit when I have numerous investments from multiple brokerages that pay foreign taxes. Also, Federal agency and treasury interest and dividends that are exempt from MN taxes. This may be an issue at Charles Schwab, but it would be nice to be able to delineate ETF dividends and agency interest that isn't downloaded from Schwab while doing the federal return.

Pros: It runs mostly locally on my computer and the file persists on my computer and in my backup regimen. The forms view lets me continually review how things flow to the IRS forms and some supplemental worksheets. Cons: Online-only activation means long-term access to the software is conditional on Intuit maintaining an activation server, e.g., if I migrate computers. There's no obvious channel for submitting bug reports, such as the fact that the edit (pencil) button for stock trades is clipped in a needlessly fixed-size pane that I have to side scroll, and the side scroll bar always starts outside the main panel (which I have to scroll to reach). I truly don't need the software to look flashy and modern, but it could definitely be more usable. Also, it's frustrating that the software provides no meaningful assistance with evaluating qualified dividend holding periods nor identifying wash sales and tracking stepped-up basis on replacement shares over time due to disallowed losses. I have to resort to custom spreadsheeting for these tasks. (And it's niche but, no handling of ESPP donations, which still have to recognize ordinary income.)

I've used TurboTax for over 10 years to do our taxes. It's straightforward and flexible with the multiple options for completing. You can choose to have the tool lead or you can go right to the sections you need. I like the tips that are embedded into the tool. I have only had to use the "Ask the Expert" once, and it was a good experience.

TURBOTAX's explanation and treatment of ROTH IRA CONTRIBUTIONS and CONVERSIONS from a traditional IRA leaves a LOT to be desired. This section doesn't even MENTION ROTH conversions. The Q&A portion of this element does not even MENTION Traditional IRA CONVERSIONS to ROTH IRA's. It's implied but that's all. This oversight caused me about four hours of extra work and research, and I'm still not sure I got it right! Disappointing!!!

Importing investment documents is very cumbersome. We have numerous accounts with one firm and all the imports are only identified by the name of the firm, not the account name or account number. Have to go through each one individually and match a reported figure with a 1099 and then rename the entry. Also, getting a summary of the entries for each 1099 category (INT, DIV, or B) requires going to the forms. When you go to review entries it lumps everything together. Talks loads of time to double check that everything was entered.

VERY FRUSTRATING, I HAVE FILED EITH TURBO TAX IN THE PAST WITHOUT PROBLEMS: THIS YEAR MY FILING KEEPS GETTING REJECTED, EVEN THOUGH ALL THE DATA IS CORRECT! YOU WANT TO CHARGE ME EXTRA TO TELL ME WHY YOUR PROGRAM ISNT WORKING? REALLY? IM RETIRED, I CAN'T AFFORED THIS. THE DEADLINE IS GETTING CLOSER, I STILL HAVE NO ANSWERS!

Very poor guiding customer through Foreign Income, as well as other areas. Several years ago, Turbotax had extremely clear instructions and information throughout the process. But for at least 5 years now, this customer is EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED with the quality of your product. Hire some people who can do the job better, and FIRE some managers who approve of the current product!

I was perturbed when I paid $25 to file my deceased mother's tax return in Pennsylvania only to find out that form 1310 could not be transmitted electronically. There should be a way to check that you can file electronically before paying the fee. I'm basically out the $25. Otherwise, I like TurboTax
