Disappointed long time Turbo Tax user.

I have used Turbo Tax for many years and have always had a good experience, however, this year, while generally my experience was good, I was unable to file my state return electronically. I attempted to do so numerous times but when I tired to pay for the filing, it always would not process. I had went back and installed any updates to no avail. Finally, I chose to file my return by mail because I was terribly disappointed that the product would no work as promised. I would have given a five star rating otherwise. I wonder if the processing wouldn't work because the program wished for the default to be to have the processing fee deducted from my refund which would have triggered a $40 Turbo Tax processing fee reducing my refund further. It doesn't matter, I have chosen filing my state return by mail.

Pretty good except the bugs and advertisements

The federal process is pretty reasonable. Intuit seems pretty set on squeezing every dime out of their customers - always more ads to buy their products which are overpriced anyway. It is annoying to have errors flagged for form fields that require a value. When using the easystep method, perhaps it should be filling all required field. The error just pops up a dialog box that says "field need a value" and provides a place to enter a value - no explanation of what the field is or what value should be there. So, bring up the forms view to see what it is all about. The field appears to be one that should be blank, so back to easystep to put in a zero just to pacify it. Guess what... easystep didn't stay at the same place, it went back to a step before the error popped up. I go through the steps again and get to the error again and hope the error is for the same field (since it doesn't say) and enter zero. Wash - rinse - repeat. I don't know if all states are the same, but turbotax's software for my state pretty much just pops up forms and say fill this in and click next. We put up with it because the main reason for getting the state software is so we can e-file our state return. I had a pretty simple return this year and finally after far more time than filling in a paper return, it get to the point where I can pay way too much to e-file (yes fed is free, but not state). And guess what... it failed! Of course, it succeeded in charging my credit card! It has very verbose and not useful information on the failure. Somewhere in there it says to go online and update software along with lots of other problems that need fixing. Well I went to the menu bar (not "online") and told it to update itself. It downloaded, installed, restarted back at the beginning of the e-file process. This time it went through, thankfully. Glad to be done with this crap for another year.

TURBOTAX HAS A BUG

So I e-filed the federal and wanted to print the state tax. Instead of straight forward printing there, TT says go back and it wants to print the whole 106 fed & state. I said Print and it gave me the print page where i limited printing to 60-106, hit print and it took me back to "do you want to print returns' without printing. I DO NOT WANT TO PRINT ALL 106 because I pay way more for printing extra sheets. I hate this.

TurboTax helps navigate the burdensome tax code

I have been a TurboTax customer for many years and have noticed as the tax code gets more burdensome, TurboTax software seems to be less intuitive. As an example, the software did not ask for my estimated tax payments. I luckily caught this glitch before filing.

I Love Turbo Tax

I have been doing taxes for 55 years. When I started doing taxes you used and pencil and paper forms. Heaven help you if you made a mistake. Turbo Tax has made doing taxes so much easier. Before we retired, I filed the taxes for our 2 businesses as well as our personal tax. I have used Turbo Tax since it first came out.

Lets get your mailing address!?

Worked pretty well until trying to charge my state filing. "Let's get your mailing address" dialog box did not have a button to continue on, so was stuck there for a while until I found a suggestion to make TT full screen. Looking at some (useless) remedies involving checking internet connection, etc. it seems this bug has been present for a few years? It is especially annoying to be stopped dead at the end of the whole tax process by a dialog box asking for a mailing address for an online charge.

Smooth Going This Year

This was a very smooth run with TurboTax this year. I have gotten preparation down so that my own glitches are very few and the software waits patiently when I have to dig for what I forgot. The only thing I hate about it is the total inability to sort the donations list alphabetically, the way I organize my prepared list. It would save me an enormous amount of time.

Does not handle complex issues

Download from Fidelity Investments is burdensome. Difficulty deleting 1099's that were downloaded in error. The aggregate profit or loss on Section 1256 Option Contracts does not get downloaded from the Fidelity 1099 & reported in the tax return. However, its is reported to the IRS. I noticed it this year & manually fixed, but I did not notice it in 2023 & I will now need to file amended returns for 2023

Disappointed

Completing the return on my MacBook Air was fairly easy, however the program failed when I attempted to print a review before filing. Trying to find help brought me to a page where other Mac users stated the same issues but there was NO resolution. Very annoying!

Turbo Tax is lax.

Turbo Tax is less robust than in the past. It should have been able to tell I filed by paper in 2023 and the e-file wont recognize this years return because I filed 2023 in January. It is also not answering / giving thorough answers for rental property like it use to. I don't feel the same trust in TT as I have in the past.
