TurboTax is Very Good.

When I clicked to transmit my federal and state returns (like dropping them in the mailbox) I got a message asking for more information. It took me to the state return (MO-A) indicating the need to fix a couple of entries. The fix was not at all friendly. After a couple of hours or more of trial and error and reviews I returned to the transmit and the retrurns were successfully filed. No explanation of what happened.

TurboTax is Overpriced

As an 11-year customer of TurboTax, it pains me to write a negative review, but it's time to face the truth. The truth is that in the age of AI TurboTax increasingly seems clunky and overpriced. I used FreeTaxUSA.com to complete the returns for one of my relatives. For relatively simple returns, it's a better product than TurboTax, and it's free. TurboTax needs to cut its price drastically to survive.

TurboTax is so bad!

I've been using the TurboTax for so many years, but this year's TurboTax has so many defects or bugs, It's not friendly at all. Lots of pages indicated has Edit, Review, Delete, but there is no button or options to do so. I don't like this at all. When transferred from previous Tax return, some fields are miss matching. When deleted one Student dependent, then the next none student dependent will replace the deleted student dependent. It's so bad. Also took me so many hours to resolve different kinds of issues.

Errors on State Return w/Deductions

There were 2 glaring errors on the Idaho State Form 40 - Line 16 did not reflect the correct Standard Deduction amount. Line 18 did not reflect any amount, and should have included the deduction for qualified overtime and the $6000 Senior credit from the OBBBA

Descrepancies between web and desktop versions

It seems like the web version is more capable than the desktop version. I help some of my friends do their taxes. I tried importing one friend's stock trades in the web version (which included ESPP trades), and I did the same for my daughter (who also had ESPP trades). Both accounts were at Fidelity. The web version required the 1099-B doc to be dropped into the program whereas the desktop version imported it from Fidelity. The web version was able to resolve all trades, but I had to adjust the trades that were imported. Is this because Fidelity doesn't share enough info? I also import my trades from Fidelity, and I had to manually adjust almost a hundred trades in my return.

Turbo Tax 2025 Problems

Very disappointed with this Premier 2025 Desktop edition. I have had nothing but problems. It doesn't perform any updates or load the States Returns but won't let you proceed without the updates. Even after trying the so called patches I was still not able do do updates or proceed. Very annoying!!!!!

Pleased

I have been using Turbo Tax (TT) for years and haven't had any problems. This year basically was the same except because I had to invest in a new computer to use the 2025 TT software requiring Windows 11, my previous year (2024 TT) was on the old computer, so therefore the 2025 TT wasn't able to load critical information from the previous tax year. I tried following the instructions per TT to get that information but was unsuccessful. I finally gave up and just had to enter all my information like I'd never used TT before. I also of course had to get my 2024 copy for necessary information for the 2025 taxes. That information would have automatically been populated if I had been able to download the previous 2024 tax filing. It was frustrating, but I got it done and other than that I was very happy with TT as I have been before. One thing I did notice when I was entering my 1099-R and SS1099 is something it populated about the funds being from a Canadian entity. I don't know where it was getting that. The Tax Payer ID was correct and was not Canadian. Possibly a fluke in the system? I have been also very pleased with the questions and help pop ups that are available. I'm not sure what Interface is referring to, but it's probably also good!

Downloading 1099s

TurboTax has been my go-to for 30 years. It continues to be an exceptional value and is now a normal part of my tax season. As I age I especially value following the prompts inherent in the expert system. It gives me confidence that I haven't missed anything. I took a star away this year because of the over emphasis on "guiding" one to download 1099s. It is a level of complexity that don't need, it confused me, and added an extra hour time for me to figure out how to work around the process to manually enter my data. In addition, the formating is not helpful. The screens don't show all the account information. Tell your developers to back off. Get me back to the relatively simple list of previous year 1099s. I could review the account information at a glance and make a quick update to the numbers. Plus, the prompt to log into the investment firm accounts is absolutely a waste of time as I have the hard copy 1099s before I start. There wasn't much screen help and it took me a lot of trial and error to figure out out to work out of the path you pushed me down. Stop pushing me into this unnecessary complexity. '

Turbo Tax Needs Improvements

Really disappointed with the software this year. It was a real ordeal trying to make corrections to the "Capital Asset Sales Entry Worksheet". In past years it was a simple procedure. After spending 4 hours trying to make changes to 12 various line items that totaled $0.00, I finally gave up and will file my returns by mail. And I really don't appreciate seeing a $60 support fee in the upper right-hand corner of my screen. I also see additional money grabbing on various fees. Hopefully others will voice their opinions and the software for 2026 with reflect improvements.

problem with K-3

I have used Turbo Tax for years. There is a glitch in the software for 2025 in the handling of the K-3 reporting. Where interest is allocated and reported as US the system should subtract US from the total and show the difference. In my case, zero foreign interest. The system does not do this calculation and there seeks foreign income to offset US expense and creates an error message through out. Otherwise a great product.
