Prefer the Older Desktop with CD version

I have used the Desktop version of TurboTax Premier for years and received a CD. This year had to download and had multiple problems, including thinking I may have been scammed, some may have been due to I believe being told I could deduct the purchase price if I used the Online Version so I believe I was using that. When I tried to file I was told I hadn't filed Last Year 2024 which made no sense since Turbo Tax uploaded my 2024 taxes to get me started, I was directed to ID and me or something like that to fill out information. Today was finally able to get back to the desktop version and had NO problems

Program froze, lost everything

We worked on our taxes for 3 hours. 1/2 way through the program froze. We had to force quit. We were working on our laptop. All was lost. We had to completely start over. Instead of pushing your products, perhaps you should send reminders to save in progress.

Software good, live advice and payments suck

Live expert advice for desktop did not meet my expectations especially after paying extra. When I asked for help after paying, I got the message that expert will call in 3h30 min. The expert first called after about 7-8 hours, it was almost midnight for me. When we scheduled a new time next morning, I was not near the computer at the time, I explained the questions I have at that time. When I requested reschedule after 2 hours so I can screen share, the expert said that he was busy the entire day and gave a time for following day morning. The worst part is that the person did not call me even after 30 minutes of scheduled time on next day. I had to reach out again through the tax software, got new expert after additional 20 minute wait time and explain whole problem to new expert. This is unacceptable and so much waste of my time. I feel that I would have paid only little more for a professional tax preparer if I factor in my time value.

Lacking features

WIsh it would remember more of what was entered in previous years. Like it should remember information on the type of retirement income. Who remembers five years later. If I entered it was an inheritage IRA, then it should remember it. Not sure why we have to pay to efile state returns. And why purchasing additional states is so expensive, half the price of the entire program!

Needs more work

This is the first time TurboTax has missed a big area for me. I have mulitple 1099's to pull down from several companies and TurboTax will not let me automatically pull the values in. Additionally, when there is an error in my tax return, caught by TurboTax, it does not walk me through the solution.

Security Options for saving PDF file

One thing didn't work this time...every time I tried the security options for the PDF file, it did not work. It only saved the "untitled" (instead of what I tried to name it and did not have it password protected. Instead, I had to do it on my own computer after downloaded from TT. That didn't used to happen in previous year.

Looking for a better product

For as long as TurboTax has been specializing in tax preparation, I expect a better product. It's not all that easy to use. I don't like being up-sold constantly, hit up for free community help in a baiting manner such as referring to me as a "hero", and I think e-filing to my state should be included. I don't like inputting my account credentials to get financial data. Some other mechanism needs to be developed. How about using AI to read 1099 PDFs? The help system isn't very good, and the chat bot needs improvement as well.

Pretty good, but check it's work carefully.

Would not accept my Bank of America account information that I have used for years. Directed me to use the routing number from the website/app, which I did, and then would not allow me to continue with e-file. Also, regarding the CA return, incorrectly allocated mortgage interest for a rental property to my schedule E and personal itemized deductions. This require manual correction with zero assistance available from support.

TurboTax is getting harder to use

TurboTax has become noticeably more difficult to use over time. The explanations provided through its help links are often convoluted and unclear, making it unnecessarily hard and time-consuming to complete my taxes. Multiple times I had to rely on external tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to get straightforward answers—and those tools consistently delivered clearer and more useful explanations. It's frustrating that Intuit appears more focused on promoting additional paid support services than on improving the core usability of the product. Users should not need outside resources to complete a tax return with confidence. Intuit should prioritize simplifying the interface and providing clear, accessible explanations within the software itself.

Easiest way to do your tax return

This is the easiest way to get our tax return done. Was also able to do both adult children with simple returns and a state return under the same Turbo Tax account. I used an incorrect ID number when filing and Turbo Tax immediately let me know the return was rejected and what the issue was. Very nice to use year after year and retain the historical information and not have to retype everything in.
