This year, as will be the case for the upcoming years, I needed to report a non taxable foreign pension (exemption under a tax treaty). I talked to three different TurboTax experts and got three completely different answers/approaches: I was told to trick the system (enter a fake 1099-R with a fake TIN), to not report the pension (the backup IRS publications referred to were irrelevant), and last to have a CPA prepare my taxes because TurboTax cannot handle this situation. I found out on the TurboTax Community Forums that I am not an isolated case. TurboTax needs to offer the option to report a non taxable foreign pension properly. Also, I have had to file by mail because TurboTax does not support Form 5471. Hopefully this form will be supported in the near future.

I could not recommend TurboTax. I had too many problems getting this program up and running. One of the verifications was to check boxes but you have it on a box which was too small to get the whole picture. Also, there was a K-1 that should have had a form 703 associated with it because there were losses from that caused carryforwards that would have eaten up the profit reported in the current year.

I've been using Turbotax for probably 20 years. Last year, when I filed my 2024 return, you estimated a $1216 State Tax refund. Several weeks after filing, South Carolina Dept of Revenue came back and said that was wrong, I was only due a $309 dollar refund. I didn't argue wit them, I looked at it and they seemed to be right. That is the one mistake that has ever come back to me. I do appreciate how you keep track from year to year of capital gains and loses.

I purchased the software version of Turbotax and then tried to compare it with the online version. I decided to complete my taxes on the software version, but the online version keeps trying to get me to complete my filing online! In fact, after i had filed my taxes, the online version told me I needed to file! Then I got a notice from the online version that my taxes had been rejected, but nothing from the software version. Today I went back to the software version, and it allowed me to file again. What the heck is going on!"

The online version was awful. I will never try that again. I will stick with the desktop version. I have the desktop version and gave the online version a try. The online version said I owed over $12K!!! That was not the case. It missed critical deductions. Simple ones like mortgage interest.

Absolutely the WORST TurboTax experience in over 30+ years for New Yorkers with 1099-R form. JPMorgan Broker did not populate Box 16 State Distribution, but they did fill "Box 14 State Tax Withheld" and "Box 15 State/Payer's state no." and "Box 1 Gross Distribution". Both Federal & NYS income tax forms were filled accurately with this data . . . but when you go to file, it aborts because Box 14 "can not be greater than or equal to gross distribution OR state distribution". TurboTax's software logic REQUIRES BOTH Box 1 AND Box 16 be greater than Box 14! The software even told me to file "manually" if I couldn't resolve the issue. If you are a Retired New Yorker with a 2025 Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and you had NYS tax with held . . . make sure you enter the value in 1099-R Box 1 into Box 16. I've been filing 1099-R forms for over 10 years in NYS and never had this problem.

I really value the product you create, every year. This year, for the first time, a lot of things felt just somehow "foreign," as if there had been many changes i was not aware of. The flow seemed somehow different, and the verbiage as well. I navigated everything with relative comfort, however, I think due to general experience with your products. Perhaps a quick upfront piece on "What's New This Year" right within the product would have been good. (Or maybe it was there and I jumped right over it? Ha!) Foreign Tax Paid was improved this year to allow more than 1 worksheet, which was helpful. But the instructions in that section were somewhat vague, and after reviewing Worksheet 1 I had to make edits because the first country's dividend entries were double-counted. Also, the default print settings result in images only 40% of actual size in the center of the page. It wasn't until I had printed the first time that I knew I had to change the print settings by expanding the details and making the adjustment. Very frustrating.

I have used Turbotax for 10+ years, I'm done with them. Still seeing same error issues that I called Turbotax help desk for last year. YouTube was more helpful for me who runs a STR, I had use forms to get to use features that should have been available to.

I have been using TurboTax since 2001 and it gets better each year. I have yet to run into a tax situation that TurboTax was not ready to handle. I love being able to switch back and forth between "Forms" and "Easy Step" which guides me through a comprehensive tax prep interview if desired. I also love the help and explanation info for each form, as well as the online Q and A. The fact that it integrates Federal and State tax forms is amazing. It runs quickly and flawlessly on my Mac.
