Turbo Tax 2025 has problems

TurboTax for 2025 was very, very difficult to use! First of all, the version I purchased was Canadian version and was supposed to be an American version. I had to get help on-line to convert it into a usable form. When I tried to file my taxes I couldn't because of an error on a worksheet. The instructions on how to correct it were nonexistent that I spent hours trying to figure it out! I've been a customer for 10 or 15 years and this was absolutely this most difficult time I have ever had doing my taxes!

Turbo Tax is average

I thought the program was sufficient, but the Turbo Tax questions asking me why I didn't engage an "expert" makes me wonder whether I should have bought a different software. I don't understand why some categories do not allow a supporting worksheet, while most other categories do. I also don't understand why the medical category worksheets are so quick to accept the first digit typed as the value, instead of alloigt user to enter the full numerical value.

Automate More Data Passed to State Return

Arizona requires a worksheet listing by source the Federal tax free income taxable in Arizona. I had to go back to Federal inputs to reconstruct the entries manually when the worksheet could have been populated from 1099 Div and K-1s. Please can this be automated going forward.

Not that happy either

Not that happy

My only complaint this year (and last) was that often this year trying to do something in TT, the software would try to take me to my Intuit Account, don't think I have one. / nor could you find one, and then I would get stuck as the intuit program locked me into finding other ways to HAVE TO log in. Had to just Force Quit TT, lost some work one time. Shouldn't make you feel that you are going to fall into a "trap" and lose work... Same problem last year. The other complaint is why do you make it so hard to find the desktop version?

Many years with Turbo Tax - bought the wrong one.

This is the first year I wasn't completely satisfied with Turbo Tax. I had to figure out on my own that I had o upgrade to Premier to get the feature I needed to file my taxes. Software works well with Win 11. I did have to contact support but I figured out the issue before they called back. They did call back sooner than promised.

Turbo Tax is great... but there is an issue

Although the software is nice, I only give it an average because there are issues with it that caused me lots of problems. That is when I ran into a problem. This is the second year. I use Norton Anti-Virus. The anti-theft protection build into TurboTax Desktop evidentially can't "Call Home" to verify that the product has been activated so it displays an activation box and makes you activate the product. Last year I ran out of activations even though only had it on one computer. This year I googled and found a solution. Whenever it asks that, you have to exit, disable all of your Norton (and other companies) antivirus software to avoid getting the Must Activate message. Yes, now I have a workaround, but one would think that Intuit programmers would figure out a way to check your account for activation without making you disable all of your protection to do so. Especially since this is NOT the first year of this problem.

TT

I read that top of the line computers with 64bit and the ESU could use windows 10. I cannot load win 11 on my hp zbook because there are too many possibilities I will lose old outlook email program and emails, and there is a chance of file loss. I had to buy a new computer to file so now i have two hp zbooks. very expensive. I will have to wait to see if irs accepts my filing and does not find any errors. It can take months because the irs does not notify filers of approval. I just have to wait months to see if they send me a letter. If I dont get a letter I will be happy and then I can rate TT

1099-B Nominee Distribution

I have a joint investment account with someone, not my spouse. The account tax number is mine. I was able to adjust the 1099-int and the 1099-div. But I found it difficult to adjust the 1099-B. I had to do some research on my own. I think I figured it out. Not sure if I did it right to avoid an audit, but did it good enough to avoid any penalty. Not sure if I have the correct code in column F on the 8849.

Great software, but needs better import options

Overall, TurboTax is a great. One area for improvement: it would be very helpful to have the option to manually attach brokerage forms when the automatic login/import isn't working (e.g., E*Trade, not sure why it doesn't work). Without that option, users are forced to mail Form 8453 along with the brokerage forms themselves, like me know. I've heard the online version already asks users to upload these forms, which is a great feature. It would be wonderful if that same capability were available in the desktop version. Additionally, allowing work started on the desktop version to be seamlessly transferred to the online version would be a significant quality-of-life improvement as I could not have done so.

Very good

Was very easy working with this year's product. Investment information upload is a great feature. I had one problem with entering RMD information. I had to divide the RMD amount between the IRA distribution to me and the QCD. There was no instruction on this.
