For many years I did my return by hand, as a former CPA. Once I retired a few years ago, I started using Turbo Tax to prepare my returns. The software is so user friendly and allowed me to check items as I was preparing and inputting my return info. This a fantastic product and I highly recommend.

Support for your software is non-existent. Whe I installed the program and started it, it did not bring up the previous year's files. I went to the "community" FAQ and found nothing that would help and wasted a lot of time. Eventually I solved the problem on my own but it was frustrating and time consuming. Your lack of product support cost you 2 stars.

4 of 5 instead of 5 of 5 stars due to: 1) User interface has become more complicated. 2) Asked to look up and enter info from previous tax year forms, even though I had imported the previous tax year turbotax file 3) Error message about blank state distribution on box 16 of 1099-R was cryptic and lacked context. Google says that payers are not required to fill this in, and I should enter the Gross Distribution amount in Box 1. Google says many TurboTax customers are getting this error. 4) Totals for short and long term capital gains not available in Turbotax to compare to my statements. Only the combined total was available. IIRC, Turbotax used to report the separate short and long term totals.

TT has eliminated "It's Deductible" and the quality of useful hints on each screen has deteriorated or been eliminated. They are obviously pushing customers to premium online support and paid tax advisors instead of the self-help tools that historically were an advantage of TT. I used AI to research many of the questions TT failed to address and will be opting towards AI instead of TT up-sale items in the future.

There are errors in the TurboTax input. I get a 1099-Misc for Structure Income from an investment. TurboTax was trying to force me to file this as a Self-Employment Sch C. I only found out from searching how to work around this to enter it as other income. Also, I had answered the question if investment income was due to Crypto and I entered no. However, TurboTax asked again after completing inputs if these were digital. I had to double enter over 1000 entries to say no!!! This took hours to do.

It seems like the web version is more capable than the desktop version. I help some of my friends do their taxes. I tried importing one friend's stock trades in the web version (which included ESPP trades), and I did the same for my daughter (who also had ESPP trades). Both accounts were at Fidelity. The web version required the 1099-B doc to be dropped into the program whereas the desktop version imported it from Fidelity. The web version was able to resolve all trades, but I had to adjust the trades that were imported. Is this because Fidelity doesn't share enough info? I also import my trades from Fidelity, and I had to manually adjust almost a hundred trades in my return.

I don't like that when TurboTax asks a question and I answer “No,” it still walks me through that entire section even though it doesn't apply to me. It also doesn't clearly differentiate between me and my spouse. Please add a feature that takes users directly to the next unfinished section instead of returning to the top of the index page after each completed section.

The TurboTax experience was about as annoying as usual. This year required dealing with upgrading to Windows 11, it's own nightmare. Then, as usual the software required constant updates, and in fact required one right as I was filing. Necessitating an additional review of the tax return. And now this survey can't seem to keep up with my typing, so I have to deliberately slow down so that it doesn't reverse or skip keys.

I have used Turbo Tax for years without challenge or incident. I usually spend an hour collecting the required documentation, another 2-3 hours entering the data manually (I have not used the import feature), then I sleep on it overnight (just to see if I have forgotten any items). Electronic filing makes submission very easy. I like the product, it i nice that all of my personal info is auto populated from the previous years submission.

Very good, as usual. Though this year I had an issue with an IRA where part of it was spun off to a new IRA. Turbotax handled the resulting RMD requirement satisfied by the new IRA poorly, or should I say not at all without tricking it. Also sometimes the navigation back to old screens causes the subsequent forward navigation to skip steps. that were previously presented.
