Turbo Tax Final Document Review Issue

I completed my 2025 taxi inputs on 4/6/2026 and Turbo Tax indicated there were Turbo Tax Updates required. Then the Turbo Tax Software updates generated an Installer Error (Unexpected Error Code). Prior to submitting my completed 2025 Tax, Turbo Tax did a review to check for missing inputs, which were not available during the guided input process. This required filling in mostly 0's to satisfy the highlighted blocks. After making all the requested additional inputs, only one input requirement on the Federal Carryover Worksheet "Titled 2024 State and Local Income Tax Information" would not allow me to enter anything in the (a) State or Local ID block. Since I reside in Texas there is no requirement to file State Income Tax. When inputting valid 179-dollar amounts for current and previous years into the forms during the walk-through process, the final review process won't pass until the dollar amount previously inputted are changed to $0. Until the missing quired information is entered, regardless how minor the impact would be, Turbo Tax wilt does not transmit to the IRS. After completing required information to have my IRS payment processed from our JP Morgan Chase bank, then continuing several screens later I was required to use a credit card to make the payment. There was no option to select bank payment on that screen. I had to go back and delete the bank payment information, which then required me to input the credit card information a second time. After clearing the review issues, it required credit card information a third time. All these glitches made it challenging to submit my completed 2025 tax electronically

Update Turbo Tax problem

I switched to MAC this year from Windows. The problem I had was updating the program before transmission e-file was accepted There is no update on the menu so I downloaded a new Turbo tax program, transferred my return to it and then was able to file. Also there was no forms menu as in prior programs on Windows.

Needs Improvement

The app does not make it easy to pay state income taxes. For example, after filing and during filing, there is no option to make a payment from within the app to the state, just a short message directing to some 3rd party website that accepts payments for the state.

Retirement worries eased.

I appreciate the ease of entering information into the different tax areas. As we move forward in retirement, there are some items that we were novices. Turbo Tax covered these items comprehensively and with ease. There were a few errors but those were on us and corrected as we reviewed our return.

We love hearing that the process felt effortless for you. Taxes are complicated enough, so we’ve designed our interface to take the guesswork out of every step.

Some serious issues this year!

I had a couple issues. First one was that I could not pay for adding state returns with my new credit card since the expiration date was after 09 (September). This could NOT be resolved no matter who I spoke with nor after following all advice I found online.. I had to use a different credit card with earlier expiration date. Second issue was that my Oklahoma Tax form forced me to fill out a form 561NR for capital gain deductions when I had sold a property in Colorado. I should NOT have been required to fill out this form according to Chat GPT, since I had no gains in Oklahoma, and I wasn't able to properly choose a "Type of property sold" for question 2 on this form. I had to pick "99" even though this was an invalid choice. Hopefully my return will not be rejected because of it!

Found a Flaw!!

Had to manually enter my CA Employee retirement system info. The program would not let me enter this years in the saved file. When I would try to enter it, it would take me to the "Download from your investment account" page. I finally just entered it as a new 1099-R and then deleted the old one.

Recommend

I have used Turbo Tax and Quickbooks software for years and I have found the software to be accurate, reliable and intuitive. The only problems that I have is the push to pay a high-cost annual online subscription that everyone is going to and outsourcing the customer relations to India where it is difficult to understand what they are saying as they try to speak English.

TT Federal is Awesome, State-level not so much

Experience is very good, and improves each year - with the inclusion of more links to instructions for unusual circumstances. I know it may not be fully in your control, but I do find the explanations for accurately completing the state-level tax returns (mine is CT) is still lacking. I have to download and read the state's published instructions, as a lot of the "questions" posed by the software don't have explanations that clearly identify what should/should not be included or adjusted on the return.

Online version has problems

I tried the online version of TurboTax, but there was a problem with the OH state version that caused my return to be rejected. I was told that a "fix" had been identified, and that I needed to wait until 3/19 to fix my return. Unfortunately the fix didn't address my issue. I was forced to revert to the desktop version, and mail my state return.

Why two states

Turbo Tax still does not help much with State Taxes. I purchased a different state to help my daughter with her taxes. When I went to file the taxes for my state it found errors based on her state, and Turbo Tax tried to have me file for her state when I was filing my taxes. Unbelievably poor QA.
