Turbo Tax - I hate this product

The software crashed at the "Review" stage. I was unable to retrieve any work and thus, I was able to efficiently replace several hours of BS work with frustration and rage. Not the trade off I was hoping for after paying good money for a product. I bought the desk top version (as opposed to cloud) and Turbo Tax makes it such a PITA to install, it's obvious they're trying to herd their clients to their web-based product. Product support is also lacking. Dealing with this software reminds me of walking a Great Dane after a heavy meal, if I'm not being too subtle.

Do Not Use if you report Crypto gains/losses

I've used Turbo Tax for decades. This year I bought the premium package so I could import cryptocurrency information. Tubro Tax advertised that you could import CSV files directly into their software for ease of reporting and processing crypto gains/losses, however, they never got that portion of the software working. Many people are very upset about this. Your product does not work as advertised.

Better than in previous years.

I don't like that it asks you every time you start up TurboTax if you want to use the online version or continue on the desktop. I realize there's a Do not show on this notice, but it's unclear whether that will permanently switch you to the online version, which I don't want, or remember your decision to stay on the desktop version. If it didn't have online as the default and instead, gave you the option of going to the online version, if you want to, then I'd feel more comfortable not showing the notice again.

Used to be a better product

TurboTax used to be rather simple. t is now complex and doesn't cover all I'm paying for, like covering K-1 specific line items, and what needs to be installed. Same with completing stock data...had over 10 errors looking for whether a line item is a digital asset.

Overall, good, but....

Overall, I really like TurboTax. However, I was disappointed in how it handled my 403(b) distribution, which as a pastor, was for nontaxable pastoral housing allowance. TurboTax did not allow me to add a clarifying statement to my taxes (i.e.- 1040SR, line 5c(3).) regarding why that distribution was not taxable. Hopefully, the IRS will not contact me asking me for additional information regarding that 403(b) distribution.

Simple and super convenient to file tax returns

I have been using TurboTax to file my taxes for the past 6 years. It's very convenient to do your taxes from home. I could see there were a lot of improvements in the user interface in the Desktop version. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the Mac Desktop version of the software that I used to file tax returns hit a snag after I was half-way through. I thought it saved all my data but it didn't. I had to start all over again. But because I used Turbotax last year as well, I could quickly import the info from the old file and didn't lose much time.

Turbo Tax can only handle simple, straightforward

My husband and I married on Nov 1, 2025. He lives in CT, where he worked and lives with his 18 yr old daughter. I live in Massachusetts (7 miles away) where I have an in home business. We resided in different states for all of 2025. The instructions on how to file are not accurate and we were instructed to do many steps that were not possible. Fail

Payments did not go through

I e-filed by state and fed taxes using Turbotax Premier on 4/13. Payment was due for both and entered the bank info for direct debit from my checking account to be paid on 4/14. Later that evening I used IRS Direct Pay to pay estimated taxes on 4/14. The next morning (4/14) the estimated tax payment was deducted from my checking but not the payments I tried to make through Turbotax on the 13th. Late in the afternoon there was still no income tax payment. I called and was able to get through to Turbotax. I was told the return was accepted and payment is scheduled and should still go out today. But by the late that evening on the 14th still no tax payment from my checking through Turbotax so I scheduled payment of the income tax due using IRS Direct Pay which went through. Same issue with my state (NC) taxes. Unfortunately, the state doesn't direct debit payments as fast as the feds so my payment will be late. Can't trust Turbotax anymore for tax payments.

turbo tax confusion

The program is not as self-explanatory as it has been in the past. When downloading from my investment account in previous years the program only required one connection to the internet, in this version there was numerous connections one for dividends, one for interest, etc. I often seemed to be stuck in a loop downloading the same information multiple times

Overall good with a side of argh!

Have been a Turbo Tax user for many years. This year was a little odd. The investment income screen was very hard to understand. Since I have a number of accounts with one broker, the display on the screen provided no information on which account was which. The new "icon" display required scrolling the screen to see all of the account list. No identifying information other than the name of the source an DIV or INT, etc. The data import process was also buggy since it now accesses a web page. It required disabling firewalls, pop-up blockers, and reboots to take effect, then try again. The pop-ups arrived but were often obscured by other open pages. All this may be thanks to Windows 11 so it may just be our new reality. Overall, very pleased with the process and still have high confidence in accuracy.
