I have been using TurboTax since 1995 and find it very helpful; but, here are some areas that could use improvement: 1) Every time I opened Turbo Tax it updated the software which is great; however, when I tried to continue where I left off, it started me off at step one which was very frustrating. I expect it to only return me to the beginning if there are changes to that area, and then it would be nice to go directly to the affected area. 2) When performing verification of my income from my investment accounts, I accessed my investment account, and downloaded all of the information using the digital process and it had listed several items as individual 1099's where each one would result in a repeat of the pre-described process for the same investment accounts. 3) When it came time to look at capital loss carryover, the software was asking me to go back and look at my previous years return and verify that I had or did not have any loss carryover; I expect it know that answer because I use the create the current year from my last year's return. 4) It keeps bothering me about filing a state tax return; however, my state does not have a state tax return. I expect it to know which states don't have a state tax requirement. 5) Since Its Deductible is no longer available, it would be helpful if there was a csv import option for importing from other online charitable donation software systems.

This was my first year using the desktop version instead of the online. I found the UI to be clunky and often glitchy in responding (often had to click twice to move to next screen). It was also very disappointing that I wasn't able to upload a PDF for the program to process. I had closed an account last year so the only copy I had of my forms was physical and I had input all the information manually. It also makes you reduntantly click to move on to modules instead of just seamlessly moving to the next topic to evaluate.

This is my third year using desktop TurboTax Premier, and I have noticed that the process of completing my return is taking longer and becoming more tedious. While it’s true that the IRS introduces more and longer forms each year, TurboTax is not developing enough time saving procedures to offset the increased time consumption from the new complexities. This is important to me because the primary reason I began using TurboTax was to reduce the burden of importing detailed information on capital gains, qualified dividends, and foreign taxes. Here are some examples of what would be more helpful to me: The system does not automatically gather all the information from prior TurboTax returns that it can. I prefer that every question on every page in EasyStep displays the value, information, or response I provided in the prior tax year. Search Topics tab is not useful to me. It requires users to use the exact IRA or TurboTax terminology to find a topic, for example “Nondeductible IRA” gets a hit, but “IRA nondeductible” or “nontaxable IRA portion” don’t. Queries beginning, “form for xyz“ also don’t yield results. I wanted to use this tab to jump to specific entries that needed checking or change in EasyStep or to directly access a specific document in the Forms section. I believe adding a bit of AI to the search routine would greatly assist users in navigating to specific parts of the application. When I return to a topic I previously completed it’s for one of two reasons. Sometimes I misunderstood a category and I need to start over, but more often, I need to change the data I entered in a specific field, such as including or omitting some components of cost in a total cost. In the EasyStep topics that have a series of prerequisite questions about the data that will be input later, users are forced to tab through or re-answer those questions before correcting the data. Answering those prerequisite questions are some of the most monotonous chores in all of tax preparation, and anyway that minimizes this repetition would be a big improvement. When saving tax documents, I want to save four different documents separately. 1) the exact set of pages submitted to the IRS 2) the exact set of pages submitted to the state tax authority 3) every page in 1) plus any other worksheets, schedules, forms, addendums, summaries, or reports used to calculate the Federal tax return 4) every page in 2) plus any other worksheets, schedules, forms, addendums, summaries, or reports used to calculate the state tax return

I use a CPA every year to confirm my filings even though I'm taking the standard deduction. For $50 it's worth it and I sleep better. The software is easy t follow though since you can import almost any investment bank or broker data and the program inputs it in the right places why bother to do it yourself. I've used the desk top version since 1996 because I want to see the forms as I fill them, not just at the end.

Getting prior years un_allowed expenses on a rental transferred from a federal tax file to California tax file didn't work at all in the past (before late 2024) and was not intuitively obvious in 2025. I had to rile an amended filing for for California using the updated 2024 software using the non intuitive process used in the 2025 turbotax SW. Deprecation on a rental property also looks fishy, thinking additional amended filings to come once TT SW sorts out the issues...

This yrs turbo tax NOT as user friendly. For some reason I had to go into investments 1099-xxx and manually select and/or enter data. AL state tax same way. In the past yrs - (decades) TurboTax would guide me thru almost painlessly, this year NO SO.

This last version of Turbo Tax has an issue with me leaving the data on one spot open from my 1099R forms specifically from box 16 of the 1099R form. Box 16 on 1099R forms are open therefore nothing to enter and Turbo Tax is does not except that there is nothing to enter. Looked up on your help line and multiple responses stated enter line 1 or 2 from your 1099R forms and it worked and the software was happy. But why did I have to trick you software. This is not right.

I find Turbo Tax easy to use to complete my taxes. I have used it for over 20 years, and I have never had any problems. I prefer the Desktop download, and I find it easy to install and use on 2 different computers. IIt is very compatible with my computer. The features are easy to understand, and it is so easy to transfer information for the past year.

no live chats, as never could connect ! I finally got an answer with instructions that didn't work. I spent more time trying to fix issues that didn't even relate to me. PPP loans that I never had, cost me more time that it took to do my taxes, figuring out how to get around the problem!!!

Great tool for filing taxes, but the app crashes or gets stuck in a transmission state when errors occur. I had to search online to figure out the problem. Additionally, my tax returns should be accessible on the website. I can't find my returns from the desktop version when I log in with the same credentials.
