The process went well until I was ready to file and hit a snag that should have been fixed by now. I have a 1099-R from the OPM. When going through the review, I'm told I have to enter the State Distribution (box 16a) in Turbotax. The CSA-1099-R from OPM does not have a box 16a. Terrible. Topics are not arranged intuitively, nor is the walk through complete. If I didn't already know I had to file certain things, I would have missed them by walking through this topic. Also, there are so few links for clarification or to see what the actual form is, a feature that was available on every screen of my last software. If I wasn't sure of the answer to a question, I had to separately go to the internet, try to figure out which schedule we were on, and then look through it for the correct line and read the line instructions. Now to add insult to injury, this AI tomfoolery review box is changing my correctly spelled words into nonsense as I type. 0 stars, would not recommend to a friend.

In the Miscellaneous Income section, I indicated that I have no debt to pay pack or to deduct. Yet, a few pages later, TurboTax asked me to tell it about my canceled debts!!!??? Huh? I indicated earlier that I have no debt. But in this page, it gave me 2 specific year to choose from (2020 or 2021) to tell it which PPP loan did I receive and was forgiven. WHAT??? What PPP loan? I never took out nor received any PPP loan!!! Worse is that I have to choose one before it allowed me to proceed. So I back tracked and see what I did to have TurboTax prompted me for my non-existent PPP loan. I ended up getting out of this section and skipped this particular portion in order to proceed.

TurboTax worked well for me this year. The only issue I had was related to entering K-1 and K-3 information. TurboTax wouldn't allow multiple counties to be entered on th K-3 like I received them from my investment firm. Turbotax indicted multiple K-1's would have to be entered for each additional country. However, that doesn't work because there is only one source K-1. Entering the K-1 a second time ends up being treaded like a second K-1, so all the numbers get doubled. There was also an issue with entering codes and numbers, where I entered them into TurboTax correctly as requested, but later TurboTax said I had put the numbers where the code is supposed to be. Other than that, TurboTax worked well this year

1)On a1099R form It showed the gross amount in box 1 and the taxable amount in box 2a. So I entered the info accordingly in turbo tax. Out of curiosity I said no which led me to the next screen asking me if the general rule or simplified rule was used. This is a form provided by the brokerage firm .How is an individual supposed to know that? This information in all the boxes shown in the 1099R was entered correctly into Turbo tax, Shouldn't the software have figured out if there was a taxable amount or not? 2)During efiling the forms for the state, a fee of $25 is charged, which is fine. Then you have the option of paying by credit card or have it subtracted out of your federal refund. If you select the deduction from your federal refund there is an additional $40 processing fee on the next screen. This should be clarified right before a person selects the option\ not after selecting the option 3) I had called in with a question and the rep asked me to share my screen. I gave him the screen share number but he said the screen was blank.??

Had to manually enter my CA Employee retirement system info. The program would not let me enter this years in the saved file. When I would try to enter it, it would take me to the "Download from your investment account" page. I finally just entered it as a new 1099-R and then deleted the old one.

I was disappointed this year. I've used Turbo Tax for years and never had a problem This year, importing from my brokerage account was difficult. I paid for a Turbo Tax consultation and Alicia answered all my questions and helped resolve my issues. At one point, the Turbo Tax screen froze up (on a new laptop) and I had to do a hard shut down and restart. At the end, it kept pointing out "errors" which I fixed, but it continued pointing out the "errors." It was frustrating!

This is a horrible application. I am a CPA and know what I'm doing. I work on taxes for a living, and should be able to override fields and fix things, and still be able to submit electronically. The only option you give me is to mail it in, and send a physical check which I do not have. First and last time I will use turbotax.

After a respite where we had more complex returns given the death of two family members, we came back to compete our own return (which we had done for years previously). TurboTax never ceases to amaze me with its simplicity that can make a moderately complicated return seem easy with the guided process. The ability to import records from our investment providers is such a powerful function that make it possible for us to do the return ourselves. It's good to back with TurboTax!

I've been using computer tax software for decades and have followed the tax s/w through the various acquisitions until we have turbo tax 2025. It has improved with each year making it easier to file taxes. I especially like being able to view help with each entry. However, I wish there was a "what if" for next year to test out different scenarios (i.e should I payoff a loan with 401k or just pay the interest). I know the laws change year to year, but a general "test" return would be nice.
