Foreign Tax Credit software issues

The walk through instructions for Foreign Tax Credit need some work. I needed to enter information for 3 different investment accounts and had 3 different foreign sources (RIC, Ireland and Canada). I could enter 2 sources OK, but the third source did not allow me to select the proper matching account in which I paid the taxes. I recommend that the software allow option to select any of the accounts and not limit the selection. I had to go to individual form 1116 and manually enter the correct information.

Problems with your software

Identified 2 problems with your software that I will need to contact you about: 1. In the PDF of my final federal return, the pages for my 1040 ES (estimated tax payments for 2026) are marked with HUGE letters: DO NOT FILE, NOT FINAL. So I can't print them! 2. I had a direct IRA rollover (code G), and TURBOTAX kept wanting to make this rollover a taxable event.

Turbo tax needs work

You need to work on the capital gains input forms, Terrible system. you continue to change it each year for the worst!!! Have someone enter 30 different items especially for bonds. There is no sorting capability and Cut and paste ability which you have had in previous iterations. I had to go through each one several bonds for 12 months each to enter cost and purchase dates. very annoying. In addition downloading information from brokerages is cumbersome, again you've made it more difficult.

Great software, but needs better import options

Overall, TurboTax is a great. One area for improvement: it would be very helpful to have the option to manually attach brokerage forms when the automatic login/import isn't working (e.g., E*Trade, not sure why it doesn't work). Without that option, users are forced to mail Form 8453 along with the brokerage forms themselves, like me know. I've heard the online version already asks users to upload these forms, which is a great feature. It would be wonderful if that same capability were available in the desktop version. Additionally, allowing work started on the desktop version to be seamlessly transferred to the online version would be a significant quality-of-life improvement as I could not have done so.

Easy to Use

I have been using TurboTax for many years and appreciate that it is pretty straight forward and easy to use. It was especially helpful when I use to itemize. I have multiple investment accounts, so I used the paid version of TurboTax to handle all of the investment information. I will usually use the import document feature but in my opinion, it is sort of a hassle and sometimes does not import all of the information, so I end up just entering the information myself.

only real problem

The only real problem for me was trying to get back to my original IRA distributions and withholding tax information. I was off on something but I don't think I was ever able to back track to verify the numbers. I was never completely positive the final Turbo Tax tax calculation was accurate.

Stupid filing check

Turboxtax has been stubbornly notorious for the final check before filing. It kept asking to FIX issues such as answering Digital Asset on 1099-B for high volume trader. They are PDF file from broker. We had 260 trades from Chase. I'd click NO and Continue 260 times each. That will be 520 clicks! STUPID Intuit.

Good, but could use some work.

I've used TurboTax for many years and like it. This year, I missed checking the box indicating I had QCD form IRA to charity, and wasted a lot of time then figuring out how to enter that. The first couple help screens I tried were worthless, telling me to click on an item that would not come up without that box checked, but said nothing about going back and checking that box; but finally I entered the proper words and got the video of how to go back to that screen and select the box to do it. That video should come up whenever "QCD" is entered as part of any Help entry. A second issue: I had to upgrade to Premier because of a 1099B from my brokerage firm for $1.90. I could have entered it manually, but it wouldn't let me download any of the brokerage info until I paid $35 and upgraded to Premier, all because of a 1099B for $1.90 income.

Worst TurboTax ever

It took forever to get updated to a useable version this year. The ability to download information from financial institutions also came out late. The constant nagging to use the on-line version was irritating. I tried the on-line version and it didn't work at all. There are problems with the RMDs and my brokerage firm since they gave me two 1099R forms: one for my QCD and one for the withdrawal. I had to guess how to handle it. Also basic information like my name and address did not transfer.

Major failure and no recourse for ordinary users.

I have had at least five years of satisfaction from your product but have lost faith in it today. It is convoluted and sent me in circles. Then I found I could not easily print copies for my files. I need estimated payment vouchers and am still trying to find a simple way to find these documents. Tax season is stressful and you have failed to help me file my return. I am sorry that your product has failed.
