Customer ratings & reviews forgreat product, sensor collar needs work
I have had theis door for a year. Greatest thing ever, BUT the sensors for my boxer's collars leaves a lot to be desired. I have spent an extra $600 or more on these alone. The door is no good with out them. I have finally tried zip tying to the inside of my 2 boxers collars. Hopefully while they are playing or biting on each other, this will protect it a little better.
Good Concept, Bad Design
This is my second one... going on my third. They only last about a year. I'm glad Sam's Club has that satisfaction guarantee, since the unit only lasts a month past its warranty. This second one survived longer than the first with less problems. I think the second was built better. But this one is now not sensing when the dogs approach from inside the house (outside still works fine). So sometimes they can't get out, which means they find someplace else to do what they need to do. I guess that's better than them being locked outside. I've tried contacting the manufacturer, but that's impossible. So I'm going to call Sam's again to return it for a refund and buy a new one. This is becoming a regular event for me. I'm just wondering how long Sam's will continue to do this. I love the concept, I just wish it was reliable. I've tried retraining my dogs to use a conventional flap type door, but they won't have any part of that. They've been spoiled by the PowerPet. So now I'm stuck returning them every year. If anyone has had one for more than 18 months, I'd like to hear your review.
great purchase
So lucky to happen across this product. It sounds as loud as an electric razor going off for a second when the door raises and closes, lasts a whole second. Don't over tighten to the wall it can bind the door. Read how to disable the baby proof part of the door. No babies at our place just 2 Chihuahuas, collars are fine on 4 & 6 lb dogs. We put the sensor on a better collar though and they came with a battery in them. Super fast ground shipping too. Best deal we could find. Wall insert was sweet took about 2 hours to install and get perfectly level, put caulk on outside piece. Just needs to last. Will see, but it looks promising
It's Raccoon proof!
For years the raccoons kept getting in our house to raid the cat food bowls. They figured out how to get into Staywell doors and actually broke the hinges off our last Staywell. This was a great purchase. The raccoons have totally stopped coming by our backyard as they know they won't get in! Installation: Note there is a plastic flange or tunnel on the backside that you can't see in the picture. It is not detachable. If your existing opening is big enough for the tunnel to fit into, there is no problem. But since we'd been using a small cat-sized door, the opening was too small, so that this door could not be placed flush up against the wall. My solution was to screw 2x4s to the wall on their flat side, then attach the door to the 2x4s. I painted the 2x4s the color of the wall and it looks just fine. I highly recommend this door. We are just now replacing the batteries on the collars after 9 months of use.
Good only for awhile
I had this door and it worked great in the begining, then about four to five months into it, it shorted out and had to be replaced. The company was great and sent me out a replacement door right away. Problem is, it's now four to five months into second door and it just shorted out now too! I'm getting tired of dealing with these things and am tempted to just to replace it with a cheap flap style door.
North winds no longer!
We originally purchased the normal PetSafe Dog Door with the flap and have replaced the flap 4 times already. We have four Miniature Pinschers and the door gets a lot of use. The only door we could install a dog door was in the sitting area off our bedroom (I call it the dog room) it has a door to the back yard, but the problem has always been it is on the Northside of our house. Those cold North winds can be brutal. The money I spent to get a new door and buy the Power Pet Automatic door was well worth the money. The ease of use and what we will be saving on energy costs, this door will pay for itself........I have researched all kinds of electric Dog Doors and this was one of the top doors in my opinion.
High Tech Pet Electronic Pet Door is Great
Researched all electronic pet doors and found this one to be one of the top quality doors. Then found the best price to be at Sam's Club online! My dogs only took a day to get used to it. I was surprised to receive two doggie collars with the door. The description implied I would only get one. This is great! The product is a fine one. You can use it with the included power supply cord, plugged into a nearby electic socket. The chord is 6 feet long and plugs into the lower right hand corner of the indoor side of the door. I will have to have a new outlet added near the door. I also bought 2 battery packs and a charger to give the door a battery backup, should the electrical power be lost. Wouldn't want the pups to be stuck out in a lightening storm. The reason I purchased this very fancy electronic pet door is that we have Roof Rats in our orchard neighborhood and one invited himself into our house through the conventional doggie door. That is an experience I don't want to repeat. This new doggie door is wild-animal proof!
A very good purchase
Door is designed well and installed very nicely. It took the guys a while, but it looks great. It is not noisy like I had expected from reviews. We had some concerns that our cat may be able to run out with the dog, but since you can adjust the time they have getting in and out, that won't happen.
Dog loves it
Has been installed for only one week, but so far the door has operated with out a problem. My dog took to it faster than the flap door. The door came with two of what appear to be the heavy duty collars. Have not needed the extra one, but great to have it, just in case. Will submit a future review if problems occur.
Good when it works, terrible customer service
We purchased a medium electronic dog door. When it arrived, one of the two transmitters did not work but we did not worry about it as the other one worked fine and we only have one dog. The door was very easy to install, and it seals very well, blocking drafts which was a problem with conventional dog doors that we have owned. It worked great for 1 year, which is the warranty period. One month later, the motor stopped working. I opened an online ticket, and also emailed customer service, but received no response. The only thing that I did receive a response to was when I placed an order for a replacement motor at an outrageous price, and also paid way beyond reasonable costs for shipping. Two months after this, the collar transmitter stopped working. Once again, a ticket, an email to customer support, and an email to the company president went unanswered. They were around, though, to fulfill another overpriced order. Within 15 months of purchase I have put over $100 additional into this product. Due to lack of customer service I would not recommend this to anyone.
