Excellent purchase

I had this pet door (the large size) installed about 2 years ago - it has been awesome for my family as well as my pets! At that time we had 2 dogs and 2 cats - they each had their own collar. The dogs figured the door out right away - the cats took a few days. I think the noise and movement of the door opening and closing scared them. We ended up teaching the cats by turning the door off and one of us held it in the up position while holding the cat - someone else was outside with a bit of tuna. It took a bit of work, but both cats did learn and we were finally free of the awful litter box! The three downsides of the door from our perspective: 1) always have a couple of extra collar batteries because the batteries die without any warning and then yuour pet is stuck inside or out, 2) have an extra collar remote - the small parts inside can get broken when changing the battery or if they get wet.. 3) the door does make some noise when it opens and closes, so be take that into account when choosing the location. We quickly got used to the noise and don't notice it anymore, but visitors definitely notice it at first. The price at first seemed high, but after a lot of online research we went for it - and are very glad we did. We live in the country so the fact that it closes completely is huge - keeps cold breezes and rain out, keeps outside critters out, provides security in that it can be "locked" when traveling.

No Customer Service

I purchased this product and was not able to install it before it was out of warranty. When I did install it I could not get it to work. It just made a buzzing sound. I have contacted the company a few different times and beyond them telling me they will get back to me I have never heard anything else from them. This has been going on for over 6 months. So I now have a $200 hole in my door!

On the fence reviewer

I bought this door 6 months ago and have had to send it back twice. I'm debating on whether to just try to get my money back but I don't know a better product. I must say the convenience of not having to take my pet out at night is great! When I first got the door it was pretty silent and worked beautifully but over time...........not so much. The first time I sent it back the door would not respond to the THREE collars I had. Now I'm sending it back because the door makes a really loud grinding noise going up then only goes up half way. My pet is distraught when he can't go out to go to the bathroom. When you call the company you can't even tell whether your on hold or not because there's just silence and then it's like no one works there because you have to wait a year and a day just to speak to someone. They are great though about paying for you to ship it back and they fix it in a timely manner also. I really have to find a new company or solution because after my year warranty I know I will continue to have problems and then what do I do!

Extremely Well Worth The Purchase!

This door has changed my world. I did my research on the door and looked elsewhere online and Sam's Club has the best price. The collars you receive with door are waterproof and are a 40 dollar value from the manufacturer. The door is quiet and efficient not to mention the pets love it. One thing I would have liked to know before hand is that the door really requires two tunnnels (sold separately) for an 8 inch block wall. Only because most houses have some kind of exterior finish like stucco and this takes up room. Other than that I highly suggest the purchase of this door. For many animals who want to go out at night this door is perfect. It relieves you of lost sleep.

Saved my sanity

Installed this in my wall about 18 months ago when my daughter went to college, so my dogs could go out while I was at work. It completely saved my sanity and I've recommended it to several colleagues. I have had no problems whatsoever and am ordering another one for the house where I'll be moving in the spring.

Fun door

After my 6 month old Yorkies found out how it worked, now it's part of the race track. The first one opens it then they both fly through. It's nice because nothing touches them. Great for timid pets that won't use a flapper style door. My Yorkie's are too small to operate the flapper type. They don't like the flap hitting their nose. The only thing I didn't like is the huge wall wart power supply with a really short cord. I bought another 14v source with a power supply at the end on a power cord. Easier to hide and reaches the door.

Power Pet Automatic Pet Door

We have only had this door for about 2 weeks and so far so good. The installation was not very difficult but I want to throw out a word of caution when drawing the template on the door before you drill. We did as the instructions recommended and put the door opening 1" below the measurement of the dogs from the floor to their chest and went with it. That was great for inside, but when the girls came in from outside they were hitting their backside because they had to jump a little higher since the porch is a little lower than the floor. They have since learned to come in and out with a little more ease and seem to enjoy having that freedom but if we would have realized that we would have installed the door a little lower. The only other problem that I have with this product is the battery. We were on vacation for a week and left the battery charging the whole time we were gone. When we got back we put the battery in the door and less than 2 days later the low battery light was flashing and the door would not open when the girls approached it. The battery is supposed to last for months according to the website. I need to call the company to see if a replacement battery can be sent but haven't done that yet. We just ended up plugging the AC adaptor in and running the door off of that. Those items would be my only complaint thus far about this door.

Best Purchase! Best Price!

After extensive research on dog doors, we decided to go with the automatic one for safety/security and insulation purposes. It gave us peace of mind knowing that any unwanted animals or pests couldn't come into our home uninvited! After reading the reviews I was worried about this one, but with any type of dog door there were good and bad reviews. I figured it was the luck of the draw. We are so glad we got this! It works amazing, we've had it for 2 weeks now, and it's awesome! This has been a huge blessing! Our dogs got used to it immediately! They were excited too I think to be able to go in and out as they please! I was worried about the size of the door because according to HiTech we needed the Large door. Have 2 Mini Schnauzers, 20 lbs ea & a 4.5 lb Yorkie. The Med door works perfect for them! No problem at all! I saved $ on the smaller one & the Large wouldn't fit in our door because of the window. Sams has the best price! Buy it!

Very good product

I really have to say that this door works very well. We used to get up in the middle of the night to let the dog out and then he would just hang out in the backyard for 20 minutes. I am not shy of writing a bad review, but it's hard to find flaws, one time the transmitter stopped working after a monsum rain and another time it broke (old 1st generation), since then I secured (sewed) it to the leash. So it's a good idea to get a spare transmitter. Probably the best thing about this door is that it seals really good. We used to have another (non-electronic) door that was supposed to seal really good but there were always gaps. Not with this one. Besides hot / cold weather, it also keeps our cats inside

So far So good

We have only had the door 1 month, and so far so good. My husband installed this in about 45 min, but he is good with stuff ilke this, so it may take longer for someone with little experience. Our puppy was going in and out the hole in the house before we even got the door in, so needless to say he took to it quickly. The noise did not bother him. One dissapointment is the collar, and transmitter. Our Min Pin is only 6 lb so the transmitter is big for him, would be nice to have aftermarket that is smaller. The collar is flimsly, and hard to get on the dog. Because of how it attached to the collar, it it difficult to put it on your dogs existing collar. You can make it work, we did, but better design is need . I did sent an e-mail to them and they did respond and will sent it to there engineers. Overall we are very pleased, it has changed our lives for the better. I would, and will buy another one if this one breaks.
