Exploding K cups.
We purchased this in January 2019 and have used it daily. As others have said sometimes you will get a bad k-cup pod. We had the most problems with the Members Mark brand but just had one Maxwell house brand explode. I don't think we've had any of the K-Cup brand pod malfunction. I think it is a design flaw with the Hamilton Beach. Otherwise we love it. Considering the price it's pretty good.
single serve feature
Been using this unit for years. Great! All of the sudden the single serve would not deliver coffee. Cleaned out water tank, still had the problem. I then removed the grey ring under lid and found it plugged with grounds. Don't know how they got there but it solved the problem.
2nd one and still love it.
The 1st thing to say is I had to have my husband drill a hole the same size as the metal plate for the single cup, just incase someone fails to put the empty cup under when it brews. The compartment is large enough to hold a cup so it prevents a counter full of coffee. It works well to fix the design flaw. As far as slow brewing, it's just long enough to heat the water. I guess I'm patient so it doesn't bother me. I got a 2nd one even though the 1st is still working just incase they stop making it. For the price it works well because I like mine in the pot so it's STRONG, and others use the single brew. I can still use the single brew, I just use a small cup. Many parts are dishwasher safe too.
Disappointing
I own a flexbrew for office with single serve feature only and it works great. I bought this unit for my home because it offers carafe for weekends or entertaining--a great idea! However, design of single serve feature was changed and does not work. No matter the brand of kcup, the coffee ends up full of grounds. After contacting Hamilton Beach, they sent me a replacement kcup holder. This was exactly the same part I already had, so no change in performance. I can't recommend this machine. Purchase either a drip coffeemaker or a single serve coffeemaker but the combo does not work.
Love the dual option of brewing coffee
I bought this coffee maker a month ago for my home and the office. I've own a Keurig for about 3 years and remembered how I missed brewing coffee in a carafe. First and foremost you have the option of brewing for 1 person or 6 people. Also, it has the programming system so you can have your coffee brewed by the time you're up in the morning. This is for the carafe. I'm not sure if you can program the K-cup. I never tried it or looked to see if it's an option. The "bold" feature in my old Keurig never really brewed "bold" coffee. I use the same brand of K-cup always and it's good. However, after brewing the same coffee in the FlexBrew using the "bold" feature, the taste is 100% better than the Keurig. I think it's because the FlexBrew brews slower and therefore steeping the coffee longer. Every cup of coffee we make, whether it's a K-cup or the carafe is so delicious. Keep in mind, it takes longer to brew your coffee in "bold" but that's so you can experience true "bold" coffee. It's only been one month and I hope this product continues to brew the same quality coffee for years. "I love it"!!!
Love the features
I gave great thought about this FlexBrew 2-way Coffee Maker before I purchased it. I was tired of all the work taking care of the Keurig coffee maker. The ants were always an issue with the Keurig. I decided to purchase the FlexBrew because of their features, easy to understand the care, and the Hamilton Beach name. The cost of the FlexBrew was so much less in price as well. The best decision I have made and wish I had purchased it sooner.
Could have been great
Really liked this product initially but ultimately I ended up returning it. Carafe and k-pod in one machine is excellent and I used both over time but they had their issues: The carafe is made of really cheap material. I purchased three over the course of ownership. First one barely dinged the side of my faucet and cracked. Second one also cracked after a minor bump. Third one somehow cracked at the lid where it opens so the lid would constantly fall off. I love coffee and fill up quite a bit so it would have been nice if I could get a bigger mug into the k-pod side. K-pod coffee is really light, probably more of a pod issue, however I prefer a strong cup and couldn’t get that with the k-pods so I mostly just used the carafe instead.
Love this Coffee Maker
I am in love with mornings again! I was given a Black and Decker in June, there was a major flaw in the design and it would not pour correctly. It made a mess, it burned me. Their customer service was horrid, they did not care even though it was only a few months old. So I swore that brand off and purchased this one. I cannot find any flaw in this machine. From the clock and programing to the single-serve option it is PERFECT! NO PODS? NO PROBLEM! You can simply fill the cute little basket and brew. I am in love with my mornings again!
Overall Disappointed
We had no major issues with this coffee maker, but overall the design isn’t great. If you’re making a single k-cup serving you have to add water for each cup. There is no reservoir. Also, if you’ve already made a pot of coffee and make a single cup it shuts the carafe warmer off. Overall just a poor design and not well thought out. We are returning and going with the Cuisinart version.
No Complaints
Have been looking at the Flex Brew machines for a while now and finally decided to purchase. Best of both worlds being able to brew a pot or a K-cup. So what if you have to fill the water reservoir every time you want to make a single cup, I'm not that lazy for this to be an issue. Had the machine for a week and have had no problems. No plastic taste (I ran vinegar through machine on both sides before first use) no exploding pods either and no grounds in my brewed coffee. Follow directions and you'll be good to go. Coffee is plenty hot, on both sides! Can't beat this unit for the price for sure. Glad I bought it.
