Turbotax going downhill

The software did not recognize mt daughters age of over 18 and put her as a dependent so my return was rejected. It also charged me for my state return and on was supposed to be included. Turbo Tax is not as dependable as i used to be. Everything is an upcharge.

I like TurboTax

TurboTax is good and helpful. I've used it over 20 years. I've never encountered an issue with the IRS. I'll buy it again next year. There are just a couple of quirks I've noticed. Sometimes when launching TurboTax (same is true for Quicken), it will initially indicate launch, but then quickly disappear. I have to re-launch the product to be able to use it. This has been an ongoing issue. For the MI Homestead Property Tax credit, both last year and this year, I answer the questions accurately which includes providing both monthly rent and pro-rated property tax, and in the review, the software complains about entering the property tax with the rent entered, but if you remove the property tax, it complains that it is missing. This puts me in a circular error condition.

BAD DECISION TO STOP IT'S DEDUCTIBLE SUPPORT!!!!

Ending support for the It's Deductible app midway through 2025 year was a decision that completely failed to show consideration for long-term users of TurboTax and It's Deductible. Because Intuit did absolutely nothing to provide for automatic import to TurboTax of all the 2025 donations information that I (and users like me) had already input into It's Deductible through October 2025, we were stuck having to MANUALLY input all the details for such donations into TurboTax to prepare our 2025 returns. If Intuit was going to cease its support for It's Deductible, it should have shown much more consideration for its users and shutdown It's Deductible AFTER the 2025 tax filing season so that users could still have automatically imported their 2025 donations information to TurboTax 2025. REALLY POOR DECISION TO CEASE SUPPORT MIDWAY THROUGH A TAX YEAR!!!

TurboTax Newbie

Social Security and Pension areas were not readily available, I had to use the help menu for guidance. Schedule C was also difficult to get to. I will be ready next year to move faster now that I have familiarized myself with the program...if I remember how to find them next year.

TurboTax has lost its way!

I have been using TurboTax for decades. But this is my last year trying to use it. In my opinion, it has gone to the dogs. My tax circumstance cannot be much simpler. But rather than allowing the process to be a breeze, TurboTax somehow manages to convolute things and turn it into an ordeal. I used to find it pretty user-friendly. Not so these days. Instructions sometimes cannot be more opaque. It even managed to screw-up downloads of data from 1099 reports for accounts at a couple of financial institutions. Then when I had to manually enter figures instead, TurboTax actually crashed on me. Furthermore, TurboTax is already an expensive product compared to rivals. But it has become greedy and now uses every opportunity it can find to try to coax users into upgrading or purchasing add-ons. Cheesy sales tactics are something I expect at a used-car lot, not from my tax-preparation software.

The "Review" function is not so great.

The "Review" at the end of the federal return process is not well done. It takes you to a place that needs to be filled in but it does not always let you enter the information. Sometimes a field really is supposed to be blank but the program won't accept a blank. I had to go through the Review 2 or 3 times before it finally took what I gave it.

Disappointed the Schedule D is not shown

TurboTax doesn't generate Schedule D where I can see all my stock transactions and capital gains/looses for the year. Very disappointed!!! Similarly, even though you have all the information with you, you didn't enter the date of acquisition and cost basis for Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). That resulted in you using zero as cost basis, resulting in huge tax, which was shocking. I had to do some research and go and manually enter data for all the lots that I sold. I will consider this as a software bug.

Long time turbo tax user experience

Fairly straightforward taking you through your taxes with either stepping you through all the topics or choosing which ones to deal with. Does fairly good job of asking you all the questions you need. Drives me crazy though that some things do not carry forward - why do I have to put my drivers license in every year, rather than bring it forward for instance (it does bring forward most things but there are a few that I have to deal with every year). I never have trouble with accuracy - but not all the questions are straightforward/step you through things - ie., there are times when it doesn't ask for cost basis - and you need to know it needs to be added. Through the years increasingly asking/trying to upsell(how many times do I have to tell I do not want to pay for advisor help. Big advantage is that it saves data on my hard drive so I don't have to worry about my data being available on the net. Works fine with my Mac.

average program

I like the way you can seamlessly transfer your return from the previous year. It's not super expensive for the program. I like that you can do several different returns with your purchase, for my kids' returns. The cons are that if you accidentally put wron information, they make it difficult to erase, and when you do, things will pop up on other forms and when you try to delete the form you may inadvertently delete something you needed from a different area. So just be sure and don't make mistakes during the process.
