I've been using TurboTax since its inception in the early 1980's. I have recommended it to family and friends and recently recommended TurboTax's Business software to a friend that owns an apartment complex and has been struggling to do his taxes on his own. I know my taxes are done right using TurboTax.

Great product. I've been using this for many years. On occasion, I find a glitch in the software where the page may not recalculate after I've changed data. But since I spent my career as a software tester, I'm aware of these things and always backup or change other data in order to get the refreshed/recalculated data.

While the actual individuals that I spoke with were helpful (once you finally find a number to call after dodging a bunch of sales tactics to get you to pay to talk to someone). There are things that are confusing, not because you need tax advice but because the software is confusing. For example, I you don't want to pay them to E-file your state taxes but rather print and file, try to figure out how to print your returns so you can mail them...good luck. You will be stuck in an endless loop that will not let you file. Everything is geared to confuse you in order for you to give up and pay them more money to make it easier.

Overall, TurboTax Deluxe does an excellent job guiding me through the tax preparation process, asking questions to properly prepare my return. An issue and a recommendation: The issue, which was time consuming to resolve, was regarding Qualified Charitable Deductions (QCD) from my IRA. This is the reason for 4 of 5 stars. I had to figure out and find where to designate the QCD amount to avoid a penalty for not taking sufficient RMD. Solution: Have a section of questions "Did you make Qualified Charitable Deductions", and followup questions accordingly. The recommendation is in the area of Standard or Itemized Deductions. I know the Standard Deduction is my best choice. Asking a question to that effect at the start of the section and allowing the process to then flow accordingly would save time.

The best part of this software is the ability to pull last year's data to make entry a lot easier and faster. I've used the product for at least the past ten years consecutively, this year was very challenging as the program is full of bugs. A lot of trouble generating a print out for filing state taxes, I was doing my daughter's return and she's getting a hundred bucks back, I'm not spending $25 to do that, so filing by paper. Wouldn't let me do it, kept insisting that I pay the 25 dollar extortion fee. I ended up having to do a workaround by saving to a PDF and printing it remotely. Wouldn't let me save the file without constant errors telling me I'm not an administrator on my computer (I am). Issues with saving and loading previously saved (after it errors out it appears at least to save). What a mess, this is 9 days before taxes are due I can't believe the bugs haven't been worked out by now. Reconsidering using this again next year.

It was mostly easy to use but my completed Federal Tax return was rejected but I don't have any idea why. It went through the process of reviewing it and said it was ready to transmit. Within a few hours I received an e-mail that it was rejected. Since I'm going to mail my PA Tax return, I won't know until it's too late if that is also rejected.

TurboTax is great, but it was very difficult to find the Desktop version and how to get a license on your website. It always defaults to online filing when I login. I had to search the internet for how to get the desktop version, and then search again for how to buy a license.

Generally Good - When downloading 1099-B into TurboTax, the amount of information appearing on the paper forms may be truncated, especially for the Pennsylvania state form. In order for the displayed information to make sense on the form, it wasn't intuitive that I needed to double-click the field the original entry to edit. Also, there is no mention or ability to search for when the bank information for direct deposit of refund will be requested for both Federal and State returns.

It is very helpful. Only odd area is the health insurance coverage questions for my wife. Is just states that it looks like she had a break in coverage when she did not, but there are no ways to address it other than select and "other". My wife and I are fully covered the entire time with my work and family plan. The statement is wrong when it says it detected a break in coverage for my wife.

The product (as always) was easy to follow. Most people likely don't care about the calculations and "logic" behind the processing of forms and the carryover from one form to the other -- some of us do. I would have benefitted from more of that transparency -- the "why." I also am not sure why, if I owe federal taxes of $481 for the (CY2024 Tax) year, why did the program print out four 1040-ES vouchers of $820 for each of four quarters? It honestly lessons confidence. Overall, a good product.
