Comment on 2024 software

Overall I had a very good experience with the software. One thing I would like to see is a note to tell you how much more of a deduction you would need to make to make itemized deductions return more than the standard deduction. That would be very helpful and save a lot of guesswork.

Fee to File State Tax Return is a Deal Breaker

A small thing that matters a lot to me. I did not know you would charge extra to e-file my state return. Here we are on tax day finding out. I feel like a car buyer getting add-on fees at the last minute. I should have read every little detail in advance. But I don't do business with people I have to work that hard to avoid extra costs.

Needed Improvements

A. Remove redundant screens that the user has to click through each time the product is launched. Example, if I fill out information on one of the subsections, I don't need to go through each screen again to confirm other information that is not related to the change I am currently making. Really wastes A LOT our time and effort. B. Also, if I don't want your extra services, then I don't want the screens offering me the services each and every time I go through the end checking stages.... Software should remember what my selections are from the last time. I should be able to then change my mind to update the last saved choice. The order of your screens is off. Asking for audit protection should be after the person is now imminently ready to file --- not when prepping and reviewing (each and every time we should suffer thru them?).... PLEASE make your product more streamlined & efficient! Thank you!

MISLED AND DISAPPOINTED

i specifically purchased to file my 2021 taxes so I could complete same day but website did NOT tell me until I after I paid and was finished preparing my taxes that I could NOT E-file. I spent $80 for nothing because I missed the deadline. The website should state very prominently that it can not e-file past years only paper filings.

Buggy and not user friendly

Application appears to be buggy. Was unable to read perfectly good W2 PDF; Repeatedly makes errors in importing 1099 forms from Fidelity, repeatedly importing 1099s for different accounts than the ones selected, and making errors in the ones it does import. Had to delete and start import over multiple times. My guess, not able to handle 1099-B which contain numerous trades; probably be re-designed to import summary data rather trying to bring in all the details. Eventually deleted everything and manually entered in required details (for 1099-B in particular) which was faster and more accurate. Experienced similar issues last year and year before. (note to self to skip automated import of my broker 1099s for next year) Came up with numerous errors on the Review step, related to form 3800, which is unrelated to my taxes and which I was unable to delete. Directions on how to delete the form were inaccurate and unhelpful (at least for the for Intuit Desktop version). Errors could not be addressed manually, but many seemingly disappeared on their own after starting and stopping the app multiple times. Software initially abended multiple times while reviewing remaining 3 issues. It has stopped abending but now does not do anything at all (will not move forward) when I try to review the remaining issues.

TurboTax Still Right For Me

I've been using TurboTax for many, many years, probably within a year or two of its creation. I've always appreciated the accuracy and clarity by which the work flows through the return. I usually opt for TurboTax to ask me all the questions even though it takes a little longer but, this way I don't miss anything.

Too many glitches

I had trouble with Turbotax this time doing my grand-daughter's taxes. It kept saying for the CT filing that there was no address, when it was clearly there, and when we had to put in the 1095 Health form which we did three times, Turbotax told us it wasn't done. I found a telephone number and a wonderful gentleman told me to go back out and come in again. That finally worked, but too many glitches for something that should have taken a lot less time. Very frustrating.

Good program overall, one glitch

Overall, a good program, easy to use. I did run into an issue where everything showed ready to file but when I clicked to file, Turbotax said it found an error. Odd to find an error when filing after passing all of the reviews and error checking, indicating everything was fine and ready to go.

Misleading: "$45 Turbotax Premium Service applies"

"Turbotax desktop $45 premium service fee applies" message appeared on the "How would you like to Pay" screen just before eFiling. Nothing on the Turbotax screen explained it, so I had to look it up in Google to find out that it was showing because the "How would you like to Pay" window defaults to "Pay with Federal Refund" for my State eFiling fee. There was NO message on the Turbotax screen that said paying with a credit card would avoid this $45 fee. Even when clicking on the "Pay with credit card" button, the $45 message did not go away. It wasn't until I had entered all my credit card information that I could see the amount to be billed on my card did not include this $45 Premium fee. TurboTax should have a clear message on the "How Would You Like To Pay" screen to explain to users the $45 fee only applies to paying from your Federal refund, and the screen should immediately remove the "$45 Turbotax Premium Service applies" message when the user highlights the "Pay with credit card" button.

Cannot E-File State After Fed Efile Was Accepted.

I wanted to wait to e-file state, 2 weeks after federal was accepted. I re-opened Turbo-Tax, with Federal accepted, and I cannot e-file state. I am forced to print it out and mail it. Frustrating. My Federal was submitted and accepted via e-file 2 weeks ago, so this should be no problem.
