Love TurboTax except for one thing

I've been using TurboTax for as long as I can remember. I used to go to a tax person and never got the refund I expected until I started doing it myself with TurboTax. There's only one issue that I run into every year that really annoys me...TurboTax never knows about my state refund/payment from the previous year, I always have to go look it up

TuboTax 2025

turbo tax did not import all the information from last years turbo tax as it usually does. turbo tax would not allow us to enter the estimated tax payments we made on the appropriate line and continually flagged it as an error when we had to enter it in an inappropriate line to make it come out right on our federal taxes. We have used turbo tax for over 20 years but are thinking of making a change in the future.

1st Class Phone Support

Experienced tax preparer. I did use TTax online help screens. I did require screen sharing help via phone assistance just to get TTax Individual Advantage software to download initially. That was frustrating. Phone assistance was 1st Class. I think it was easier in 2024 to import W2s or 1099s. Had to key data in this year.

Unresolved edit on online version prevented efile.

The desktop version is fine. For the first time I tried the online version. I completed it but was unable to efile it due to an edit that could not be resolved regarding the taxable amount of my Federal pension. I was charged for efiling but was advised I would have to file the return on paper. I started over and was able to efile using the desktop version. Please issue a credit for the online version efile that could not be efiled.

TurboTax desktop is junk. Full of bugs.

Turbotax is JUNKware. I will never buy it again. Bugs all over. 1 hassle after another. Their fed form estimated taxes section would not transfer values for estimated taxes paid to state/county to the state form. I retired with 38 years working in IT/engineering in software development and testing. I know what good software is and this is junkware. Next year I will use freetax usa. Done giving money to makers of junk products.

Turbotax is now failing

I've used Turbotax for at least 20 years satisfactually. you now seem more interested in trying to get me to file online or to sell additional services than to provide the tax filing service i pay for. for the first time my efile was rejected by the IRS. i filed jointly in 2024 with my now deceased wife. i made sure the requested AGI for 2024 was correct. when rejected your fix required my wifes AGI for 2024 (WE FILED JOINTLY). Turbotax needs to refund me for Federal and State efiling fees if i have to go to your alternate paper file in lieu of efile.

Turbo Tax has gone downhill.

I have used Turbo Tax for over 30 years. This years version is not as good. No state vouchers for 2026 estimated taxes. And I can't locate the information I have already entered to create the Fed vouchers. It wants me to reenter all my estimated numbers. Poor planning on Turbo Tax. Numerous other changes and numbers don't always flow through.

Pretty Accurate & Helpful, a Few Glitches

Overall, the 2025 TurboTax Deluxe was very good. There are a few questions I couldn't answer or were unclear. My Pension Plan Provider doesn't have a "FIN" ID number, so I entered their Federal ID # in its place. I used online searches to clarify info on RMD withdrawals to fill this section.

Software not properly maintained, full of glitches

I have been using Turbo Tax for decades and have grown very disappointed in the software in recent years. It's obviously not being maintained for the user, just for seller (TurboTax profit purposes/protection). There are too many quirks and glitches to mention really (some can recreate serious tax errors). I had to refer to AI consistently this year to get around Turbo tax basic problems. Some are just ridiculous and easy problems for Turbo Tax to fix in the software like: 1) disappearing cursor 2) Can't enter a foreign phone number with your foreign address when living abroad 3) Disappearing buttons on the screen 4) Can't order Forms 1116 as required by IRS by user selection - which can force users to delete considerable already inputted data so the software only "sees" the priority info first and then re-input the deleted data. 5) Turbo Tax asks for 1099Q data, but can't handle it properly. You'll be taxed on non-taxable income, unless you mess with the inputs or simply choose not to include them. You must lie to the questionnaire- Ok not to include per IRS, or fix the education costs yourself. 6) etc, etc...just too many low hanging fruit problems to even mention When you investigate alternatives say; foreign income tax exclusion vs. tax credit (exclusion is not always the best choice) and are switching choices back and forth in the questionnaire, ghost forms can be generated. This is really poor. The math on IRS forms is at the early elementary level, so in the example above, there's no excuse for the software not to collect all the relevant information and automatically jump ahead and present the results. And, as additional inputs change the results (very likely), the results should be recalculated and presented in a pop up box. In today's computer age this is very basic, From the user end, the performance is very antiquated....like software from Windows 98 or similar. I think the company has business now because of history and people like consistently in financial matters. I suspect without considerable improvements, Turbo Tax will suddenly disappear in upcoming years by a company that chooses to do it better.
