Getting less impressive every year ...

TurboTax seems to be less impressive with each year's release. It used to treat my Federal and NY State returns as separate returns, transferring over the appropriate info from fed to state, but then gave a fairly extensive interview for NY for the differences. This year it seemed to do them simultaneously (as reflected in the running totals displayed for both Federal & NY State that changed when entering info). But it didn't do a good job this time of asking me NY-specific questions. Then, when I go to Review before filing, it identified errors due to missing info on forms it never even asked me about (i.e., IT-2105.9 line 16). Where the heck did that come from? It didn't even provide a link to the worksheet, I had to hunt for it under the Forms menu. I don't know, Intuit, you seem to be getting lazier with each release ... maybe you're trying to force people off the desktop versions onto the online versions ...

1099-R problems still not fixed!

Turbo Tax doesn't allow 1099-R documents that are uploaded with boxes 9a and 16 blank to be accepted if blank, even though the IRS doesn't require them. It was a problem last year, an I forgot about it. I thought it would be fixed for this year, but it's still a problem. Evidently Intuit doesn't listen to feedback. I'll investigate if it's corrected next year before purchasing Turbo Tax again. May be worth starting from scratch with different software (HR Block) to avoid the problems.

$60 Expert Help

The best part was communicating with Turbo Tax helpers - Jeremy and Maria. There were parts of Turbo Tax 2025 that just didn't seem user friendly, but then again maybe it's because I suddenly became 81 years old!! And changes in technology happen so often. So...I paid $60 to talk to the experts. Thank you.

Year after year reliable

I depend o0n Turbo Tax. It guides me and helps me compare with the previous year. It is thorough and accurate guaranteed. I was disappointed that they shut down Its Deductible (that was a very useful tool. Overall it is efficient and points me in the right direction when I have a question.

Worst year ever for desktop version

This could be my last year using any version of TurboTax. There were so many bugs it made preparing challenging and frustrating. Some examples: Insistence on choosing standard deduction. After trying to change it, the overview page continued to say, Standard chosen. You had to continue and look at the details to see that itemized deductions were applied. Another: Tried to print my CA state taxes for mailing but TurboTax instructions said I e-filed state taxes and the version that printed was not suitable for filing. I tried the on-line version and hated (1) constant upselling (2) the dumbed down interface. I switched back to desktop. The same bug with the standard / itemized deductions was in both formats

Needs to clarify section about Canadians

I've used TurboTax for years, but this time I ran into an issue that made the process unnecessarily frustrating. The program included a section related to certain Canadians who are not subject to U.S. taxes, which didn't apply to me. Several pages required input that was unclear, yet the system kept insisting I complete them. In the end, I skipped the section and it eventually disappeared, but not before it wasted a considerable amount of my time.

TurboTax 2025 crashes mid-filing

This is the first year, after using TurboTax for many years, in which the application crashed in the middle of filling out a return. This occurred multiple times to multiple people in a single household. No data was preserved after each crash and a new return had to be started resulting in many cumulative hours of lost time. A very frustrating experience.

Quality of program going downhill

Some brokerage companies/banks are not included in the direct import. A lot of the "guidance" is too vague to be of use. The new way that it shows income/dividends/interest/etc is hard to read. State tax portion is poorly done and even more vague. Payment of fees for submitting taxes is messy. Tries to trick you into paying an additional fee. Program says data is good but it still gets bounced back.

Turbotax was better last year.

Turbotax seems less user friendly this year, and trying to sell too many add-ons. It's distracting and annoying. Simplify. Let us upload pdf's. Tax forms are pdf's, not txt. Stop trying to add confusing features and for-sale add-ons. The basic product is what consumers want. Simplify. Otherwise we can just hire CPAs.

GUIDANCE IS GOOD IN MOST AREAS.

GUIDANCE IS GOOD WITH A COUPLE EXCEPTIONS-RETURNING TO A PREVIOUS SPOT WHEN YOU NEED TO AND FIXING AN ERROR DURING FINAL CHECKING. ALSO, YOU NEED TO REVIEW THE POINT WHERE IT IS NECESSARY TO CLASSIFY A TYPE OF TEACHER'S RETIREMENT PAY. CURRENTLY THE "TYPE" IS TOO CLOSE TO THE "NAME" OF A CURRENT PLAN BUT INCLUDES A SIMILAR PLAN WHICH PAYS MY SPOUSE. YOU SHOULD HAVE A FEW OF YOUR NEWER EMPLOYEES GO THROUGH THE PROCESS BY JUST WATCHING SOMEONE NEW USE IT.
