Forcing us to use Windows 11 was an awful decision

Your requirement that Turbo Tax needed to run on Windows 11 forced me to have to buy a new computer since my old computer's hardware would not allow the installation of Windows 11. That cost me $1000. I should be furious at you and I should have only given you 1 star. But I decided that since my old computer was old, I really did need to upgrade. But I would love to know why you forced Windows 11 on us. I don't think that was a good decision on your part

Problems with Importing W2s and HSA 1099SA

No longer imports my W2 because my employer doesn't use the OPTIONAL control number. My HSA form won't import either. I had to enter all the info manually.. I am switching next year to H&R Block or freetaxusa next year. TurboTax is not as good as it used to be.

SCAM! Be careful and pay by credit card

VERY upset that Turbo Tax slides in Santa Barbara Tax Products when you pick how to pay the filing fee and now because we picked for filing fees to be deducted from our return it will go through Santa Barbara Tax Products and they will charge a fee. Totally unnecessary and very misleading in the user interface. BE SURE TO PAY WITH CREDIT CARD to avoid getting SCAMMED like we did. VERY disappointed in Turbo Tax!

Not as easy as previous years

I have used TurbTax for around 15 years. This year's version was not as good as past years. I had to shut down yesterday because it kept sending me back to a previous page but would not allow me to edit the previous page. That part was better today, but it was still a more laborious process that past years.

TurboTax has a bug preventing NY state filing!

When trying to submit my NY State Tax return I hit a TurboTax bug that apparently has been known about for several weeks but no one at TurboTax bothered to fix it. I buy TurboTax to make filing taxes easier, not to be stopped in my tracks with no way forward. This is the error message "1099-R Box 14a for e-filing New York State withholdings can not be greater than or equal to gross distribution or state distribution" but the message is misleading, first because there is no such thing as box 14a, and second because the number in box 14 (not 14a) is NOT greater than the distribution. It turns out the answer is provided in the TurboTax member chat on the website: Copy the value in Box 1 into Box 16 and re-run TurboTax.

TurboTax is great software

I had no problem, but new users were confused by online vs. desktop. Online caused confusion, it didn't appear that the 5 individuals stated that could use software was not working for them. It eventually worked itself out., but through tril & error frustration.

TurboTax is still great, BUT.

Fed return was accepted right away. NY state return was blocked until I went to Internet and Googled my problem. They (AI) pointed out that on 1099R, box #1 info had to be manually entered in box #16 or else TurboTax would reject it. This did NOT happen when I did my 2024 returns with very similar 1099Rs included.

Great except for the DC return section

Most of the steps were very easy to understand, especially with the additional information that you could click on. Federal and Colorado sections were great. The only issue I had was that the DC filing questions were a vague. I specifically didn't understand how to separate our deductions and how Turbo Tax got to the total DC deductions amount. There was almost zero explanation for any of those steps. I ended up having to ask chatGPT to explain it for me. The user interface was very clear and well organized. The refund running total at the top was very helpful, as well as the tabs that allowed me to see where in the process I was working on and to move between sections without having to use the back button.

Interface is lacking

When going to pay for state and when entering credit card for state payment, the place where you scroll down to enter experation month does not scroll past 8. I don't have a credit card with an experation date before August of any year. This is a major flaw, in my opinion.

Feature change

My overall experience was good until I changed my mind from e-filing state taxes to manual filing. I spent an hour or more looking for a way to back out of e-filing. I finally found a well hidden area to change to manual filing. I would have liked to have a choice on the first screen to say mail in. There was only the choice to file electronically or file later. I had to search several places to find the mail in instructions.
