Not the best version

I have done my own taxes for years and am even a certified tax preparer. Sections of this version of turbotax were unnecessarily difficult and the language vague. I think probably to influence me to get tax advice. I also didn't like the "online" version.

Easy to use software, but had one issue

We e-filed our Federal return but wanted to mail our state return, however, the software would not let us do both. In order for me to print our state for mailing, I had to go back to File and select Print for mailing for both Federal and State. Then it did give me an option to only print state. The software does show that our Federal was e-filed, so we are good there. A lot of users will not figure out how to do this. We don't owe the state nor do we have a refund, so we didn't want to spend $20 for nothing.

TurboTax is Meh

TurboTax easily install with frequent updates throughout the tax season. The question stems can be confusing at times. The guidance/help topics are of limited value. Might be better to make a query on an AI site. Would be nice to see how some of the aggregated numbers from forms/schedules are calculated by double-clicking on the number on the form of a statement of where the value originated from.

Not As Good as Before -- Need Revisions

I've been a TurboTax user since the late 1980s, when it was called ChipSoft. Each year it seemed to get better -- until the 2025 edition of TurboTax. The ability to get "data source" info on lines of tax forms is VASTLY curtailed, as is the ability to initiate "overrides" if necessary. There were points where I was getting error messages on a number which was, in fact, not in error and the override function didn't work. I spent a LOT of time trying to finesse this and finally fudged the data to get the correct results. GRRR! I used to be able to get ALL my Vanguard data in a single transfer -- now it requires multiple steps for each account. If Vanguard is responsible for the extra complexity, as the largest tax prep company, Intuit should work out a more user-friendly solution with Vanguard and save everyone a ton of time. Yes, I'll continue to use TurboTax, but not as happily as before, unless they make at least the changes I have highlighted. And I strongly suspect I'm not alone.

Test, Proof, Test the program.

The Expert had some of the same problems with the program as I. For example, the program wanted information on my home mortgage. My mortgage was paid off in 2002. It would not accept my balance of $0 mortgage - there was no provision for no mortgage payment. TurboTax should have had a proofing team to catch problems like this one as well as others which I do not have time to list right now. I am a retired Certified Financial Planner.

Not what it used to be

It's becoming cheaper to outsource my tax preparation versus doing myselgfby purchasing Turbo Tax software $55, paying a refund fee $40, state e-filing fee $25. I may not continue doing my own taxes in the future after doing it this way most of my 48 years of working. There are also several bugs in the Turbo Tax questions that should be caught with sufficient quality control processes.

$60 Expert Help

The best part was communicating with Turbo Tax helpers - Jeremy and Maria. There were parts of Turbo Tax 2025 that just didn't seem user friendly, but then again maybe it's because I suddenly became 81 years old!! And changes in technology happen so often. So...I paid $60 to talk to the experts. Thank you.

Amending and submitting form is not recommended

I forgot to add something and had to file amended. This was the first time I have ever had to amend a form with TT and have used this product for almost two decades. Amending through the software into a tailspin. TT gave me three different numbers on the bottom line. Obviously not well at amending forms.

Don't try to trip me up with a last-minute fee

I love TurboTax but encountered a few problems this year. First, since I still have a Windows 10 computer, I was unable to download this year's program. Fortunately I could go to my Mac; however it was unable to retrieve info from a previous return produced on my PC. Second problem: Computer locked up before I had saved my return, and I lost and had to re-enter the info. Third problem: TurboTax offered to take my state filing fee from my federal refund. Only at the last screen did I find out that it was going to cost me $40 to process the $20 fee. So, I checked online and found out there was no fee if I paid with a credit card. That meant going back and changing the payment option. Why didn't it tell me this before I got so far along? That feels sneaky. That last issue is why I didn't give 5 stars. Do better, my friends!

Turbo Tax has More Bugs/Defects Every Year

I've used TT for many years, but this might be the last time. Gets harder to use every year; changing the layout functionality every year just so it 'looks new', I guess. I hit several bugs/defects this year, but you can no longer report them within the app... or they've made that capability too hard to find. Now they want you to communicate via Facebook and X, but I don't think the general public really needs to know about my taxes! I guess they're trying to drive users off the desktop version, so they'll use the web-based version. They're just going to drive me to try a competitor's product next year. Not sure how accurate their results will be this year, either, since several screens displayed something like, "#undefined", and other sections sent me to question flows not relevant to my tax return. Then the NC state return required me to enter information about military retirement pay that I already entered on the federal flow. Very disappointing experience.
