No IP Pin now
5 out of 5 stars review

IP Pin problem if both don't apply!

On the whole, I like Turbotax, but this year proved frustrating, primarily on the final step. As the person who prepares our taxes, I had applied for an IP Pin and received it. Then I found that there is no place to enter it on the final page - only a 5-space blank. Because my husband did not have an IP Pin, I could not use mine - I had to go back and delete my IP Pin in order to put my old Pin # on the form. Time wasted applying and deleting - in the end, I have no IP pin!

Issues

Generally ok, but two continuing issues; 1) I use Turbo Tax because I don't keep up on tax law changes. For the State return, it invariably says to enter something "if your state allows it". That's why I purchase tax software, to answer those questions. 2) If you start a return and indicate you want to use the one free state return but don't complete the return until sometime later, it doesn't remember that and I get the charge.

Satisfied customer

As usual the TurboTax desktop program was helpful and made doing taxes each year predictable and almost routine. I like the option of working on what I need rathe than the step-by-step. I've always found TurboTax accurate and have never had an issue with any of its calculations.

Turbo Tax is easy to maneuver through

I've used turbo tax for many years. I am comfortable with the format, and ease of using the step by step instruction guide. My taxes are very easy, yet it is nice to have the program looking over my shoulder and ensuring all the entries are correctly done, and you back it up with the Audit guarantee.

Loyal user since the first version, still love it!

I'm a loyal Turbo Tax customer, since the first year it came out. Each year it gets better. The interviews are clear and understandable, the layout takes you (virtually) by the hand and guides you through it all. Calculations are complete and accurate. I get my returns done in record time - and there's nothing better than that!

The Difficult Year

Worst experience in 20+ years using TurboTax

Filing the 2025 returns is the worst experience I've had in 20+ years using TurboTax. Let me point out a couple issues. 1) I accepted the prompt to try the online version of TurboTax. Big mistake. The worst thing was it downloaded a spurious 1099-DIV amount. It was large and didn't belong to me. Not in my broker's records. I "cleared all" and started over with the desktop TurboTax version. It did NOT download that spurious 1099-DIV. 2) The filing process was agonizing. Verification steps. More IDs required. Finally, pRaying for filing state return by credit card fails (multiple times). I called Support, waited 30+ minutes and reported the issue.

Usable but can be VERY confusing.

The online pull of tax information doesn't ever seem to work well for me. I couldn't seem to get it to work at all this year, but the manual entry was somewhat improved over 2024. However, the Income and Deduction entries are disjoint and out of order. Most critically, much of the Deduction section is very confusing including the names not even making sense (e.g. one item in the Deduction section screen says "Insurance" in the title name, but the item entry portion says nothing about any insurance entry or even association to insurance. The title for the item covering the Federal Taxes Withheld doesn't even indicate anything like the Withheld tax info. The BIGGEST issue is that the Itemizable Deductions should be handled on one section screen of its own and ALL Credits and the Deductions not requiring itemization should be on separate screens. Then there should be a final display screen to show what's happening with all the totals versus the Standard Deduction. Another BIG annoyance for me is that TurboTax does too many things behind the scenes without explaining what is happening/happened to the user. For example, the Medical Deductions Total on my Deductions section indicated the correct total of around $15K, but when shown the Total Itemized Deductions, it indicated only around $8K. TurboTax FAILED to clearly identify that only the Medical amount over 7.5% of AGI was included in the Itemized total versus on the Deductions page. VERY CONFUSING! Similarly is the calculation of the final amount of tax. I REALLY want to see how the final amount of tax is determined, if only to at least show when it comes originally from the Federal 2025 Tax Table and capital gains tax is then added. Also, the Federal 2025 Tax Table should be included in the list of tax forms so that the user can decode the entries in the worksheets. Currently the tax amount seemed to appear out of nowhere as the form said mine came from the Tax Computation Worksheet (which is hard to find as it is not actually a form). But it shows the tax on that worksheet and doesn't indicate that it actually came from the Tax Table. I had to look up the 2025 Tax Table online then reverse engineer from my numbers that is was actually from the table (the Table was not included in the TurboTax form list at all, but CLEARLY should be included). Maybe some like to simply assume that everything is done correctly, but some people REALLY want to know basically what TurboTax is doing as it takes and processes the data. Maybe TurboTax could have a "Verbose" mode where it includes intermediate screens with details of, at least in general, what steps it is doing behind the scene. For example in Verbose mode, it could show it "Looked up the Taxable Income in the 2025 Tax Table, and placed the value on line 25 of the Tax Worksheet; then adjusted it by adding the tax amount from the Capital Gains sheet with the result placed onto Form 1040 line 5."

Turbo is great, but shouldn't be necessary

TurboTax is an great product. But most people should not have to use a private intermediary (especially paid, but also free) to file their taxes. Please stop (i) deceptive marketing to steer people away from free file options, and (ii) lobbying to prevent simpler tax codes and filing options without you as an intermediary.

RMD Problem
4 out of 5 stars review

RMD Problem

Entering the RMD should come before entering the 1099-R information. I had 2 1099-Rs from the same account and I had to redo the entries because the RMD was asked twice and became erroneously doubled. The work-around was to enter zero RMD for the second 1099-R.

2025 Tax Year filing went smoothly

I used TurboTax during the final week of January 2026 for my 2025 federal income tax return. There were minor navigation glitches that I was able to work around. Otherwise, it worked smoothly throughout, including e-filing. (The 2025 tax year software was a significant improvement over the 2024 tax year software in that it wasn't generating forms that were inapplicable. The 2024 tax year software was simply bad.)
