Turbo Tax missed the boat

Very disappointed that Turbo tax did not tell me that the federal return has to be direct deposit. IRS no longer issues checks for refunds. Now I have to create an account with the IRS and have multiple layers of security to enter the bank information. Its too much red tape for $77.00. You should have informed your customers.

TT 2025, Estimated tax for 2026 calc is buggy

Calculating the next year's (2026) estimated taxes was a problem. The step-by-step method had no way of entering IRA withdrawal withholding. There was no other way to enter tax withholding other than maybe a W-2 or possibly a W-4 entry, which we have neither since we are retired. We had to over-ride several boxes in the individual forms to get the calculation correct for the estimated tax vouchers. TT kept on calculating the total tax without taking into account IRA distribution withholding. We had no problems with the actual 2025 tax filing itself, only the estimated tax section.

TurboTax software needs major overhaul UI

Very archaic interface that hasn't improved in years. Poorly organized help function. Unable to sort my investments by different categories which took enormous amount of time to complete the Capital Gains forms. TurboTax has the information about when a security (stock) was purchased but will not populate the line items with it and requires a user to manually sift through transactions which is very poorly architected in this day and age of AI.

DISAPPOINTED STATE FILE wouldn't direct deposit

It was a bit difficult to understand the FED 2210AI worksheet but I managed (in particular the Capital Gaines per quarter). My biggest complaint was not being able to get a. IL state refund direct deposited into bank account when I had EFILED last year, but you didn't know it.

Last year for TurboTax

Started when I could not even install, due to dropped Win10 support (only revealed after purchase). Had to borrow a laptop with Win11. Constant ads to spend more on services. Figuring out how to file state by mail instead of electronically took two days - TurboTax help site was literally useless. And I mean "literally" in the classic sense. This was absolutely my last year using TurboTax - 10+ year customer here saying goodbye.

Windows 11 Enshittification is Contagious

Product seems to ask far more questions than in past. Might be Trump's bill. Product freaks out on updating some entries - won't allow any input. Most critical example in my case is it won't accept Illinois State Property Tax - over $10K in my case, so it doesn't flow thru to state form where I get a 5% credit what zeros out what I owe the state. I'll have to go thru all the machine generated forms to see where it when wrong. My guess is it won't allow any changes on the 2025 form in places where I had detail sheets last year. Things like names of doctors and dollar amounts for each.

It should pre-populate name & address for payment

TurboTax could be better. When paying the $45 for an additional state (with a credit card), and then again when paying for the $25 e-filing, it asked for all my info (name, address, ... and then the name again). It should pre-populate all the info, which the software already has. I do not save my credit card info, but the name and address should still pre-populate because Intuit and the TurboTax software has that information already.

Just mediocre

Removing it's deductible is a huge failure. Very frustrating and a decision that should cost someone a job or at least a bonus. The UI is mixed otherwise. At times it seems advanced but then you'll do the same thing in another spot and the UI is terrible.

Needs improvement

Questions are not easy to understand, why it asked me to get a value from my previous year when previous year was submitted via TT so when it imported it should import everything. The layout of the application is terrible. Has not improved in 10 years. Some parts have a new feel and look.

Have used for years, less impressed 2025

Technology and ability to navigate remained easy, but misleading prices. Advertised for being free to efile federal, that was not the case, it was an extra $40 at the end to file. Advertised to being free to efile one state, that was not the case, it was $25 with a $10 credit at the end to file. Also, advice is now $60.
