I have been using Turbo Tax over 30 years. I am a retired accountant, and I find Turbo Tax the easiest way to do my taxes. Never had a problem with the program at all. Just follow the programs direction and you are good to go. I highly recommend it.

Works in general for filing as a dual status citizen living in Canada. The only issue is that I cannot e-file due to my spouse not being a US citizen and therefore does not have a SSN nor a tax filer ID as she has never lived or worked or owned any property in the US. A tax filer ID application is too onerous. I should be allowed to enter NRA or Non Resident Alien as an option so that I can e-file. Currently I have to print and mail. Also, I can no longer get the basic package for filing, I cannot file online and as a result, I am forced now to purchase the Deluxe Desktop edition at a higher price than I think is necessary.

I have used turbo tax for many years. The 2025 version changed how you enter donations. They made it way more time consuming to use. Each and every item must be entered individually, including date and institution, i.e. Goodwill. This was very time consuming. I really wish they would revert back to the previous process. Otherwise, I would give 5 stars.

I've been using Turbo Tax for over 25 years. This year's version is by far the worst and most frustrating. I'll be looking for new software next year. Why do I have to download the software every day? It takes over a half hour every time I have to download! I couldn't get my broker data this year. I had to enter everything by hand! I've had struggles in the past that customer service helped me thru, but this year was awful. With all the trouble I've had, it leaves me concerned about accuracy. In my mind, most of the struggle is intentional, because TurboTax wants everyone to use the online version.

TurboTax has never really had a tight integration with the California State Tax return or with information from prior year Federal Return submissions. In this age of Artificial Intelligence, there's some real growth opportunities in these areas. Particularly, it asks questions Fed Returns that are answered on the prior year filing (with TurboTax) and on State Returns that were answered on the current year's Federal Return. To clarify, there's always been some auto-data import capabilities, but there's definitely some "memory issues" with previously answered questions. The other area for improvement is on simple Foreign Tax Credit situations, where all of the income is generated by RICs. It assumes some complex Foreign income situation, where none exists and forces users to fill out a lot of useless worksheets. There was some stumbling over User Interface changes from previous years. It failed to catch a mis-answered question concerning Federal Energy Credits. So, the return was rejected. It failed to find the error and I was forced to figure it out for myself.

I didn't like the idea that I was turbotax was trying to force me to use the online method, and always trying to sell me more than I needed. The trouble trying to continue a return when Turbotax always wanted to start a new return instead. I will concider a different program next year.

Accuracy: when considering state & local taxes, I found the Federal online calculator gave different results Compatibility NA as I did not use any other programs in association with TT Features ?? I do not understand this; I found the program confusing; always have Guidance - see Accuracy Interface ??

This year, you guys had more bugs than ever before. I've been using Turbo Tax every year for the last 25 years and for the most part, I've been highly satisfied. This year, much less so. Particularly with bugs related to education expenses on college education (no step by step on room and board entry of expenses like prior years AND originally not having the entry on state for 529 accounts). Also, there was a bug that was present on the energy credits in federal with the address on the form. Had to delete the form and recreate as a work around. None of these issues were show stoppers, but its concerning.

For the second year in a row, I'm disappointed that Turbo Tax doesn't have NY forms IT-661 and IT-661-ATT. Having to manually calculate these forms, make modifications on IT-201-ATT & IT-201, and then snail mail the tax return because the lack of these forms prevents me from electronic filing --is a huge consumption of time.

TurboTax is the program I trust to be thorough, helpful and smooth. The step-by-step process helps make sure that you address all the required areas, plus tips for saving on taxes where appropriate. I keep coming back year after year - it even uploads last year's return and remembers cumulative data.
