Turbo Tax a Problem

Once filed can't go back and verify what was filed electronically vs printed to file by mail. Not sure if state was actually filed or not. Can't verify through the product. Can't go to state without going through the federal information first. Even just for review.

Great Product Despite Slipping User Interface

I am a big fan of TurboTax and have used it for over 20 years. I have always given it a 5 star rating until this year. I was not a big fan of the user interface this year. Many of the information "look up" boxes were left off making this edition a little more like deciphering the government language on paper forms. I found myself having to look up items like 403(b) and alternatives online as I clicked through my Civil Service annuity distribution declaration. The CSA 1099R form with a code 7 in Box 7 should have been sufficient for TurboTax to determine the distribution information. If I have to click choices to make decisions, then please return to the level of explanation in the program that was customary and expected just 4-5 years ago. I realize that forms may not always be finalized by mid-January because there can be late IRS updates to TurboTax. While it was unusual to see so many delays warnings to completing my taxes in the third week of January, I won't fault TurboTax for it. I will continue to choose TurboTax for my annual filing, but I definitely hope they return to the much more informative user interface and information lookup they excelled at just a handful of years ago. I know the videos from years ago were costly and may not be possible today, but they were informative. Filers want to be comfortable in their choices of clicks; guessing/assuming isn't the way to go.

Not so good

What was the Canadian information for s and why couldn't we just put in NA. Entering interest income and 1099R' were absurdly difficult. The information on the payees were there from prior years returns but we were unable to retrieve it. After about 1 hour of trying the options we finally stumbled on SKIP IMPORT and it worked but there were no instructions. There was no explanation of what SKIP IMPORT would do. We called the 800 number and the email that was sent was less than worthless. It seems that every year you make something that was easy difficult.

Excessive State E-filing fees.

The program is good but the new design will take some time getting use to it. My main complaint is that the charge for state e-filing is excessive. It literally costs you nothing and yet you charge $25. This is pure profit for you and I think its too much. Don't forget, the consumer already purchased your product which is higher because it includes state filing and now there's an additional "tax" to e-file.

Desktop version good, online version bad

On the whole, it worked well. It did not, however, ask me if I wanted to apply my refund to next year's taxes as it always has in the past. Also, I initially tried the online version, but it would not let me transfer my data from last year's return. It told me the file was corrupt even though I could open and close it with last year's desktop version and had no problem transferring the data into this year's desktop version. I am unhappy that I ended up paying for both the online and the desktop version.

Makes preparing taxes a seamless activity

The software was easy to install. I don't have a complex tax situation and this software makes the process seamless each year. It's compatible with my MacBook, has easy to understand features, excellent guidance and explanations, easy intuitive interface, and guides with excellent accuracy.

Great software most of the time

This year the software is a bit wonky. Followed the instructions on part "C" to the letter but the software kept asking for a company name where there is none . Instructions say "if none leave blank". Took 3 tries and an update before the completed package allowed transmission.

still some bugs that need to be addressed

I had trouble with Turbotax and the very beginning and at the very end of the process. In between it was vey user friendly and helpful - I particularly liked the examples & sample situations to help guide me. At the beginning I couldn't even create an account - because evidently the software picked up a 30 plus year old account that used my same email ! I had to call live support to figure out how to even get started.... Then at the end of the process - I wanted to e-file my Federal return (refund to me) to get it faster - so I could pay for my State return (I owed money) paper file it later closer to the due date of April 15th. But the software options didn't match / work to do this without me calling live support again to sort it out & trick the software options to do it... very frustrating at the beginning and end of the process.

Cost estimates for donations is difficult to use

The process for determining the cost of donated items for deductions is more difficult in the 2025 software. When typing in the name of the item, I frequently did not get information about it. And the list of item options was too long and I couldn't get to the bottom of the list. It was too difficult to use. One suggestion: If you insist on using this software change, at least include some instructions on how to use it!

Last year was better

Everything worked, but I don't like the new format. Too many extraneous pages. Also the PIN input is hard to find. This should pop up automatically. The Direct Deposit information should default rather than typing it in. It comes up automatically, if you want to change banks.
