Easy Peasy from start to finish!

I thought I was going to have a heck of a time because I read a bunch of reviews where some folks had issues with this software. I had zero issues, just make sure your operating system is compatible. I have a Mac with Sequoia 15.7.3 software and the whole process from downloading to filing my taxes was simple. 2 years ago I DID NOT read the specs and bought the software and could not load it on my Mac (I had an older operating system at the time), luckily I had a old Windows computer that I had to use, but not gonna lie, I was mad, but it was my fault because I did not read the fine print. Would definitely recommend this software especially if you have a Mac with Sequoia operating system.

average program

I like the way you can seamlessly transfer your return from the previous year. It's not super expensive for the program. I like that you can do several different returns with your purchase, for my kids' returns. The cons are that if you accidentally put wron information, they make it difficult to erase, and when you do, things will pop up on other forms and when you try to delete the form you may inadvertently delete something you needed from a different area. So just be sure and don't make mistakes during the process.

Extremely poor interface

Even though I have used Turbo Tax for decades, I could not populate all of my personal data fro previous years. I had to re-enter EVERYTHING and cannot compare this year's return with any previous years. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! The when I had to print my return before e-filing, the program locked.

Good Alternative

It would be great if the search tool had more options. One of the radio buttons was very useful in helping me fix an error. However, for another error I had to look at a previous tax return to determine how to fix it under Miscellaneous expenses. I wasn't sure if you were asking for the description or the total amount. I entered in both. I think last year's version was easier to use than this year. I could not find where I could find the requirements to see if I can get a deduction for my spouse since he's 65. He also became disabled in Sep 2024 but we're waiting on SSA to process his application. He can't work. It would have been helpful if there was a question to address is if he's entitled to a credit.

Some issues this year

The overall yearly experience was about the same. However, when the final chance to pay allowed credit cards or using federal returns, the wording was NOT clear about these options. Choosing to pay the $25 state e-file for California (really $15 - thank you for the extra $10 bump, Costco) from my return triggers a $45 additional payment for "premium services." I spent far too long searching for this and eventually on multiple phone calls to clear this up. I would prefer more transparency: "If you pay with your card, it's just the $15 fee... but if you choose this other option, it will cost you $60 to pay the $15 fee." Additionally, many questions used in the product are confusingly worded. You have to click the help option to bring them up and once you look, it's so simple and I don't understand why the question is worded in this way. For example: 1098-T question: Did (person) take college classes? The answer to that was yes, but the bubble indicated that it was for students who were in high school, so we needed to answer no. For a tax product, that clarity and precision of language is REALLY important. You could make this product better. Please do.

Good product, but needs some tweaks.

It has some problems handling unusual situations - getting a qualified state pension from a different state from where you are living is not calculated correctly. The phone reps are very helpful in figuring out how to deal with this flaw in the program.

Good, but not great

To some extent, TurboTax seems to have gone downhill, but that may be due to the emphasis on doing work online (which I won't do). Given the complexity of the tax rules, Turbo Tax does a good job of walking through the items. However, it didn't properly import last year's documents, a review of the paperwork showed I had to go back and clarify something, and filing electronically require shutting down and restarting (unsuggested). Help is now online and not particularly useful.

TuboTax 2025

turbo tax did not import all the information from last years turbo tax as it usually does. turbo tax would not allow us to enter the estimated tax payments we made on the appropriate line and continually flagged it as an error when we had to enter it in an inappropriate line to make it come out right on our federal taxes. We have used turbo tax for over 20 years but are thinking of making a change in the future.

Desktop version is easier than the online version

I tried the online version this year to see what it was like. The ai helps were nice, but it didn't offer the ease of doing all of my family's returns from one account. I switched to the desktop version for my familiy's returns because it was so easy to work with in creating multiple returns. It's too bad the online version doesn't offer that option.

Bad assumptions on form 2200

I was disappointed that TT-deluxe was not able to accurately complete form 2200. I needed to report my tax withholding by quarter as I went from full to part time employment and had a lump-sum Roth conversion income late in the year. TT simply straightlines the total. The result was either pay a nuisance amount of incorrect penalty, or spend a couple of hours re-doing the fed and state forms by hand. I couldn't enter the numbers into the forms section.
