Should be better by this point!

This should be a clean product, but it has multiple problems. For example, when entering investment income, the program repeatedly asks for whether I want to download information directly from brokerages. The previous version would stop asking for this after about 3 repetitions. This version persisted. Moreover, the new format of investment income page is glitchy. If you want edit one of the entries, the display jumps to the top, so you can't see the item you just clicked on to edit. You have to scroll down to see it. The program should offer an opportunity to review returns before you e-file. Instead, it provides a link that goes out to an instruction page about how to do it. Why not just have a direct link to the print mechanism right there? You should want your customers to review their returns well before they get into all the steps associated with e-filing. I had to fake out the program, saying I was filing by mail, to get a print out before proceeding into the e-filing steps. That's absurd.

TurboTax is definitely the way to go love it.

Been a TurboTax user for quite a few years I ended up talking to a tax expert from TurboTax. He was great very professional answered all my questions and helped me through the program. Definitely recommend going through TurboTax. It's been a great experience and I plan on using it in the future.

Long Time User, Works well but have suggestions

I have been using Turbo Tax since the MS-DOS days and prefer it over using a tax professional. It handles importing all the standard forms like W-2, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, I099-R, etc. very efficiently online from banks and brokerages. It is less proficient with K-1 and other less common forms. I wish Intuit couid work more with the major brokerage companies to develop a standard for their tax reporting forms to make it easier to verify that information such as brokerage proceeds are imported correctly and that the various investment fees can be imported automatically. There is still much manual work to be done such as collecting IRA information and medical expenses. Also the state tax handling is much less advanced than the federal, and the instructions can be confusing.

Fairly good.

Much better than it used to be, but still locks up for no apparent reason and requires reboot. Be sure to save your file often to avoid having to re-enter data when that happens. When trying to prepare a tax return for my son after completing and filing our returns, TT locked up while trying to transfer data from his prior year return. Locked up computer and had to reboot.

After 10 years, I'll look elsewhere next year

I have been using turbotax for over a decade but will likely not use it again. This year there were two issues that are very disturbing. Both required work arounds that make no sense but were suggested by turbotax staff. 1) I have 529s to pay for my daughters' educations. Both of my children are enrolled at the University of California Santa Barbara. I received 2 1099-Qs for distributions I received and passed on to them to pay their expenses. Turbotax has a section in the income tab for entering all the information for the 529s. However, this caused my tax liability to increase $18k. The program indicated this would be dealt with in the credit section. In that section, however, it simply checks to see if I was eligible for the tax credit for tuition (529s are tax free growth for Tuition, Fees, Room, Board, and computers up to the COI as determined by the institution, not just tuition). It determined that my income was too high for the traditional tax credit and gave no method adjust for applicable expenses. I called for help but the non-CPA staff couldn't help. In March I was told it was a known issue that they were working on and I would receive an email when resolved. No email ever came and on June 9th I called back to be told I was ill-advised in March, there is no fix forthcoming and that I was never going to get an email. Then I was told I needed to upgrade for CPA level help. The extra fee lead not to a solution because of tax knowledge, but a work around. Set the box 1 income on the 1099-Q to zero was the suggestion given to me by the CPA even though the box 1 on the forms should a value. This solved the problem but feels egregious that I am not entering my 1099-Qs faithfully. The second issue was I got a repeated warning on filing that on my Trust Schedule K-1 box 14 code I, that I didn't have a dollar value associated with it. But I did, I had entered the $2k on my document. I called the CPA line for help. Again, it wasn't that I was doing anything wrong or that I didn't understand what was being asked of me, simply it wouldn't work. For half an hour we sought solution. The final work around was to changed the coding to Z-miscellaneous rather than the I-STMT on the form and available to me on the pull down list in Turbotax. These two issues show that there are large quality control issues at play at Intuit.

Turbo Tax is Good but Could Improve the IRA Area

Overall it was easy to use, but there were some parts where the questions were a little confusing, and hard to determine how to answer. This was mainly in the areas of inherited IRA's, and the situation where you have multiple IRA's but don't take the RMD from each IRA.

Entry Changes Suggestion

Overall, I am happy with TurboTax and have used it numerous times over the years. I did NOT like the way you presented the page to enter the -INT, -DIV entries. In the past, you presented them to edit in the same order that they were displayed the previous year. This year they were presented in alphabetical order. I don't get my documents in alphabetical order from beginning to end. Please fix it for next year or I will be using another company's software. The extra amount of time I had to use to make my entries for that part of the return was excessive and there was a greater chance of making mistakes. Not in your best interest to do it that way!!! Please feel free to contact me if you need further explanation. Additionally, you did NOT provide a summary sheet for the Dividends as you have in the past. "Here's the dividend info we have so far" That sheet provides a great overview of what has been entered and can be used as a checklist to make sure everything has been entered!!! Again, please feel free to contact me if you need further explanation. I have screen shots.

NEEDS SOME WORK

DISLIKED THE 40 MINUTE UPDATE TO PROGRAM I USED THE DAY BEFORE. THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM WITH THE QBI ENTRIES - THE INFO IS PUT IN BUT STILL COMES UP WITH AN ERROR THAT IS IMPOSIBLE TO FIX. WILL NOT EFILE WITHOUT THE FIX. COST $600 BECAUSE I HAD TO DELETE THE QBI TO GET RID OF THE ERROR. NOT THE FIRST YEAR THIS HAS HAPPENED.

Not as good as it has been in the past.

I have been using Turbo Tax for many, many years. This year has been one of the worst years. The instructions were unclear. Finding form numbers harder and having the IRS reject a claim and trying to fix it was miserable. Get rid of the stupid nickname!!!!

The good, the bad, the ugly

I gave this a 3 for 2 reasons. The main reason I purchased in Mid December is I wanted to use this program to see how much I could/should transfer from Traditional IRA to Roth Ira only to find out that you couldn't do that until the 15TH of January. The other reason is it should have been more clear that it would cost to file state return. It was free to download but cost to Efile
