Overall positive experience, questions remain

I like how things transfer over from year to year making the process faster and easier. This software is relatively easy to use. There are still many questions I have that are not answered within the software. I continue to scratch my head and guess alot.

Not completely satisfied with 2024 Turbo Tax

Turbo Tax has issues when retrieving income data from the 2023 Federal return. It appears that when there are multiple entries for items such as Interest and Dividends, Turbo Tax only retrieves the first entry which makes the AGI inaccurate. This contributed to my returns being rejected when e-filing.

Generally Terrific Product With A Few Flaws

I have used TurboTax for over 10 years to file my taxes, but I found this year's user interface to be a bit cumbersome to use and certain fields difficult to understand or fill out. 1. For the 1099 section in Income, the pop up message confirming whether one wants to delete an entry should show up at the spot where the person has the cursor, not way at the top of the page, resulting in the need to scroll up way to the top in order to see the confirmation message. 2. To claim foreign tax credit, one must file form 1116, which was relatively straight forward to fill out with TurboTax's questions. However, the Smart Check function in the Federal tab asked for one to fill out the description of deductions that were automatically filled in by TurboTax in line 3b. There is no explanation of how the pre-filled number was derived or from where they were obtained. How are we supposed to know what to write as an explanation when we don't even know what the number relates to? I had to go back through my federal income and deductions sections to try to find numbers that would add up to the figure that was inputted on form 1116 line 3b. That exercise sent me on a wild goose chase that wasted a lot of my time. TurboTax should have added a link or verbal statement to show where those numbers came from.

Needs Improvement

The 2024 Intuit TurboTax Premier product does not properly address the SECURE 2.0 Act, which was signed into law on Dec. 29, 2022, as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, P.L. 117-328. Starting in 2024, unutilized 529 educational savings plan funds can be rolled over to a beneficiary’s Roth IRA without tax or penalty, subject to certain restrictions. The present TurboTax program treats all rolled over assets as an UNQUALIFIED distribution, both taxed and penalized. Please correct this issue in the TurboTax Premier product. For Apple users, this 2024 Intuit TurboTax Premier product freezes and crashes when attempting to print federal and New York returns and/or worksheets utilizing the software.

Eager to begin my Tax return

I have been using TurboTax since the DOS days with ChipSoft. While the EasyStep has been thorough and intuitive in years past, It seems that this year the EasyStep went off the rails a number of times requiring me to visit specific forms. In your defense, I don't wait for all of my information to become available (late February) before starting TurboTax. I will begin inserting W-2s as soon as I have them. This often means that I need to jump around in the Topic List. At the end of January, when all forms SHOULD be available, I go back to the beginning of EasyStep to fill out whatever I've missed. TurboTax failed to automatically maintain a couple of forms at the latest data even as I re-saved the file after entries.

5*s

It's great that it saves information from prior years so you don't have to input all over every year. It reminds you of some items you had in prior years in case you forgot something. The community boards are helpful and ability to ask questions in the forums. And you can get advice from experts.

Good

Turbo tax is good with all the details. But was charge twice for states, during the begining and during filing. Can some one explain me why I was charged $50 (2x$25) during the filing, as I already got charged $80 ($45 each for state, discount $10) for State before begining? Appreciate.

Great software package for a long time

I have been using Turbotax since the DOS versions. For non-old people that is the computer operating system before windows. Turbotax has helped me navigate through start-up and sale of businesses, rental real estate, and getting kids through college. Record keeping is still important but, once you have everything assembled, it is a breeze to get everything entered and e-filed. I can't see any reason to change.

This ver. rejects using credit card for State File

Keep rejecting my $25 credit card payment for State of CA efile, even before the software verified which credit card I'll be using. Unlike 2023 Turbobax, there is no provision within 2024 Turbotax to allow me to input or change my credit card information. Where is this software getting my credit card number from and then decline me card?? Website reported numerous complaints by many users in past years too.

After update the 1099R updated code cause me lot of time to understand what exactly was suppose to go into a form. Had to reenter 1099R info. I have 3 1099R and which one was at error was confusing. Question asking 1099R if it was a MDR or not ? No it was a qualified retirement I get on a monthly basis.. Very confusing!!!
