Helpful but Extremely Flawed

Appreciate being able to get my taxes done by myself for cheaper. However putting in same year Roth conversion was not intuitive and had to look up multiple sources to get it right. Pricing is ridiculous that going through a retailer is cheaper then they charge you a 2nd time to actually file for state filing even after I purchased Premier + State.

wind royalty needs overhaul

overall good, still needs some proofing when it comes to wind lease/royalty payments. this has caused issues for at least 2 years. the schedule E autopopulates but error messages are received which prevent the return from being filed. very frustrating for myself and 2 of your help staff. the first female disconnected me somehow. the second put in an amazing effort but couldn't quite get it done. I was able to do it with override and completing the schedule E again.

Turbo Tax Greatly Facilitates Self Tax-Prep

Overall the software was very good and, together with Google Search, made it possible for me to prepare my individual 2024 tax return. The Turbo Tax Arizona Tax Year 2024 software was less friendly than the corresponding federal tax software. There were entry screens for which prior tax year data was not presented for convenient reference in answering Turbo Tax questions for the current year (2024).

VA state Schedule CR wrong entry of zero

TurboTax completed my forms for federal and state of Virginia returns. However it would not file them electronically because the "Pass through entity elective tax payment credit on Schedule CR section 3 part 6 had a zero entered (by the program, I did not do this), and it should have been left blank. When I deleted the zero, the program put it back in. The result was that it would not let me file electronically. I called for live customer service help after several Q & A type help screens were no help. She went through the forms with me, located the problem and showed me how to fix it. She was a real 10! The live agent phone # was hard to find, but I had no waiting when I eventually dialed the #.

Process Easy, interface has hiccups this year

I find it fairly easy to go through the sections, especially with last year's info pulled in to guide me. This year, the 1099-INT and DIV section needs work - I selected to input 1099-INTs, then selected the account that has a description indicating it was a 1099-INT (from a list that included INTs, DIVs, etc), THEN was asked if I was putting in info for a 1099-INT, DIV, K, Cryto, etc, but with no reminder of which account I had selected to work on. I already indicated INT twice, why a third time?

TT Premier 2024 is slower & Card paymt gives error

1. Direct form downloads from Fidelity brought down multiple empty forms along with actual forms provided by Fidelity. Extra hassle to delete them. 2. The TT Premier has bugs that are slowing down respond to go from page to page when you click next buttons. Finally, the worst part is that when I tried to pay by my visa to pay for state tax transmittal, it said the card did not go through even though the payment was made. When I called Tech help, that rep and I struggled for an hour so I could finally get the taxes filed.

Data input boxes not clearly identified to 1099-Bs

TT input boxes provided for entry of interest, dividend, capital gains, etc., data could not be related to specific imported 1099-INT, 1099-DIV and 1099-B forms . Previous versions of TT were much better at allowing/specifying specific accounts from which the data was imported. REQUIRING entry of account numbers would really be of great help. This year's format fell down in this area causing much confusion.

TurboTax is still good to rely on.

The software only lists "what should be" filled in; but I wish it would have told me "how" to fix the error. Or, at least, tell me "where" to locate the original source of the error. I paid $60 for help; but the help did not help me to solve the problem.

Turbo Tax 24

I found the interest/dividends section a bit awkward. When I would click on a particular item to work on, it would take me back to the very top of the section and I'd have to start over again. Also, I would appreciate having a search option to find a particular topic. Otherwise, the program works well.

Persistent issues

Continuing to use, but some long-standing issues still not resolved: 1) Printing is archaic - one can either print the entire return, or manually select individual forms BUT no way to print the return as sent to IRS using two-sided printing without having to select each page individually. 2) Handling of Foreign Tax Credit is insane! After years of wondering what the heck the program required, I finally realized that TT requires us to MANUALLY figure out a form 1099 for each foreign country, subtracting each of these from the main form 1099-DIV – HUH? The whole point of using tax software is for the program to do these calculations for us (all the required information is already included in the form 1099 from the brokerage; we need only confirm the amounts or the foreign source income for each country or brokerage).
