Investment Documentation Errors

All goood except investment download data had multiple ommisions like sell Short or Long, ZIP code, and 401K widthdraw omissions on forms.. Don't know if its TTax issue or Edward Jones issue. Difficuot for me to fix as these forms are complicated with exception of missing ZIP code. Second year dealing with this isssue where 70 plus errors were flagged by TTax. Be nice if somepne could talk Edward Jones TAX team to ask them if thwy receive calls on theis issue. Last year they were really aware of the concern. . . .

Wrong info for state with a deceased spouse

I have used Turbo tax for years and generally found it to be a good product. However, my spouse died this year and I wasted many hours doing my state return, because Turbo Tax indicated I needed to file married, separate. After much research and agony, the bottom line is, it should have said change the primary taxpayer to the surviving spouse and make the deceased the spouse. Instead, it recommended mocking up federal returns for each separate and then doing state returns individually from the mock up. Huge oversight!

TurboTax is fair.

TurboTax is probably easier to use than figuring out what IRS forms you need and completing them. This goes double for the Byzantine calculations sheets the IRS uses. However, for all of its promises, some of TT's explanations are difficult to understand. I have never had any luck with importing data - W2, 1099's, etc., with TT. It would save me time and effort if you would simply leave that off and the default option is that I type everything in myself. Another quirk of TT is its inability to scroll down a page by using the tab key. Where TT has check boxes, using the tab key merely switches back and forth from the available choices. I would think that one a selection is made, further pressing the tab key would move the cursor down the page to the next selection, but alas, it doesn't. Is TT a good product? It does the job, but some changes would make it easier for the thrifty home filer like me. It could be a lot worse (it could have been developed by the IRS and heaven only knows that foolishness that would bring!), but it could also be a lot better.

Turbo Tax is good, but could be better

Turbo Tax is comparable to other tax software I have used. They both guide you through filling out the tax forms, guiding you through collecting the information needed. I had trouble finding where estimated taxes for the following year was to be completed. The prompt for the W-2 section should include notice that it is also for the estimated tax and it guide you through calculating the estimate. An enhancement would be to perform automatic estimate payments to the IRS; a feature one of the competitors already has.

TurboTax makes taxes doable

I've used TurboTax for many years and find it easy to use and appreciate the information for previous years being carried over each year. It seems that each year, I have a new tax situation and TurboTax is able to handle every situation I have encountered.

Meh

The Foreign Tax credit needs improvement. The program limits 1 country for 1 brokerage account even if the brokerage account has several countries. The directions to fill in entries in sections needs to be consistently concise and inform what exactly is needed before entering the entries instead of waiting until entering amounts then saying ‘Oh, you need this info also’ and then it is a mess trying to back up, go forward, or get to that data entry point again. When you enter interest & dividends on the income section, you cannot go back and edit to add a 1099 B amount. A separate form must be filled out for the same brokerage account.. And when you click the edit button, it takes you to the top of the form instead of staying in the section you want to edit. But it will not let you enter it anyway…….

Data input is a DISASTER!

I continue to use TurboTax because it possesses a continuity that flows from year to year. But the app looks like something from 40 years ago. It's probably running on COBOL. Every year I use TurboTax, I reach up and try to use my touch screen to move the display, only to remind myself, for the 800th time, that TurboTax is not Windows based. And 2024 was probably the worst year ever. TurboTax tried to rework the 1009-INT and 1099-DIV function. It was a TOTAL DISASTER. Navigation was almost impossible. I would click on INT and get sent to DIVs. I easily wasted 2 hours fighting with the INT and DIV entries. The old format would have saved me 90 minutes of hassle. This part of the information input area needs to be seriously FIXED. The 2024 version of Turbo Tax is an unmitigated DISASTER!

TurboTax is a mixed bag accuracy wise

TurboTax made a serious error in how it calculated my tax liability. I'll have to now make a separate estimated tax payment on the IRS's website. I was hoping for better given how expensive the software is. I'll be exploring my options next year when tax time comes again.

Software needs help

When filing the State form (that I thought was free with my purchase of Turbotax - not, it was $25) the software screen asking for my CC information comes up so large that you can't see the button to complete the information entered (can't even tell if there is a button). I ended up having to shrink my display screen to even see the button.

Feature removed while cost goes goes up

Just like every year, the cost of TurboTax desktop went up. This year, however, there was an "extra" for those of us who file a Missouri paper return out of choice or out of necessity because TurboTax doesn't support certain Missouri forms for e-filing. This year for the first time in recent memory, TurboTax omitted the 2D barcode at the top of the Missouri 1040 printout. The barcode is meant to reduce or eliminate manual data entry and thus errors at the DOR. We are told this year (https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-mo-1040-missing-scan-code-this-year/01/3585878) that Missouri doesn't *require* the barcode, as if that is an excuse to remove the feature. I ended up reentering my Missouri return data into fillable PDFs provided by the Missouri DOR. Their forms include the barcode. Not cool, Intuit.
