Disappointed

Very disappointed that Turbo Tax and E*Trade 1099 import process require manual corrections of transactions (i.e. Written Covered Calls) with zero ACB. In my case that would be hundreds entries in need of correction. The only reasonable option that I was able to use was to enter 1099-B Totals Summary. Note that this option requires (USPS) mailing 1099-B after E-File acceptance, therefore E-File option does not make sense either. Apparently Turbo Tax is recommended by E*Trade so please do not attempt to blame E*Trade for it. Note that I have already complained to E*Trade as well. Quick search on the internet shows that I am not the only one dissatisfied with this process, the complains about it started several years ago and are still not corrected.

Updated 2024 made Turbotax more combursome.

This year TurboTax didn't perform as in the past. The transport of information from financial institutions did not work correctly so it required manual entry. My state does not require state filing of taxes but TurboTax is now set up to almost require you to file unless you take action not to. The software should be aware of which states require filing.

Turbotax doesn't like ExPats.

Turbotax still does not realized that many of it's customers don't live in the USA. One cannot pay for the product unless both the credit card provider and the credit card card user have a US address. One cannot register the product. Registration accepts only US/Canada addresses. One cannot enter a contact telephone number. The system does not support the internal format for mobile numbers.

Works Just Fine Every Year

I've used TT for several years now and only used a competitor's software last year (I switched back to TT). It's intuitive and easy to navigate and if I had questions about a topic - I just searched online and the TT answer link came up quickly (and gave me the info I needed).

TurboTax Rocks!

This is great tax preparation software. Through the years my tax situation has become less complicated, but I still need the Premier version as I have annuities. In the past, TurboTax has helped me navigate through stock sales, the sale of my business, and all sorts of other issues that saved me plenty of cash by not having to pay a CPA. When I was in business I used QuickBooks, another great Intuit product.

Trouble with data transferring to the state return

Turbo tax is very easy to use however I had trouble with several deductible items that would not transfer from the federal input data section to the state return. These items are no longer deductible on the fed return however they are extremely valuable on the state return. After many hours of trying to get them to transfer I finally accomplished this by opening the state form in turbo tax and manually adding them.

not so great

this year the software went downhill. I was disapointed as it did not come in cd version. I was not able to search for questions as i did in the past, this software would give a blank screen. The new version requires you to pay extra $60 for auditing help. Also I could not retreave forms from the software.

** Had problems this year.

The program hung when it got to the point of clicking on Pay with a Credit Card for electronic filing. Had to restart the program and then it worked. It also was not processing my state return properly. It was showing no State Income and no State Tax owed. I had to close the program and then restart it and then the state portion worked properly. So this all did not give me a great deal of confidence that my return didn't have errors. Hopefully all went well.

Still the best after using for 15 years.

Had a problem importing data from my E*Trade account. Had to manually enter data. E*Trade was bought by Morgan Stanley last year and changed its name to Morgan Stanley Capital Management. Turbo Tax insistently wanted me to enter data from the old E*Trade name and would not let me to proceed until I entered 0s for that account. I could not find a way to erase to old account.

Redundant entries and overall value proposition.

Redundant input requests on information that could easier be cross-referenced from earlier form entries. Add-on fees for audit defense, filing, expert tax advice in addition to costs of software make the value proposition less compelling vs having a full-service tax preparations...particularly for rather straight forward tax scenarios.
