Excellent program

I had conversations with two online associates as my older computer would not update. They were very patient and a huge help. As it turned out I feel pretty sure it was a filter block on my internet connection. I took the laptop to the office and used the business internet and it worked find.

Disappointing glitches and hidden fees

I have used TurboTax for decades, but this year was the first time I experienced major, frustrating issues. First, the software was incredibly glitchy, automatically entering random numbers into forms that did not match my data. I had to manually delete forms like Schedule A and restart the program just to clear the error. Second, the Federal Review process failed completely. Instead of catching all errors at once, the system made me submit, fix one single error, resubmit, and then fix another error. This tedious, one-by-one process was extremely inefficient. Finally, despite paying for TurboTax Advantage—which is supposed to include Audit Defense—I was hit with an unexpected $45 charge because I filed an extension. Since I filed my returns...

    Not Impressed

I was very disappointed in Turbo Tax this year. They did not have the software updated to handle multiple RMDs until well past February. When I talked to a TurboTax customer service rep about this, she was clueless than it was not performing correctly.

    State tax form failure

Your product failed to inform me that I needed to submit a state tax form (Kansas form K-94) in order for my tax credit to be applied. I filed my taxes and was awaiting a refund only to receive a letter from the Kansas Department of Revenue telling me that my filing was deficient. I went into Turbo Tax to find the form and it's not part of the forms that your product generated.

TT struggles to be relevant or useful

Eventually gets the job done, I guess. So many confusing prompts with little to no context, especially during error check. Can't tell you the number of times it legitmately said "need a value in this field" and the field has no label (or is just something like "line 17") and the title of the error doesn't name an institution, tax form, or anything to help you figure out wtf it's talking about. If you have a very vanilla tax filing, it's OK. Beyond that, it's garbage. I imported documents from some institutions where I ended up with let's say 4 copies of a 1099 combo doc. When entering info, TT only says "what is the value on line 4 of your 1099 from <institution>?" with no way to discern which of the accounts at the institution it is ref...

    Turbo Tax

I truly dislike having to wait EVERY time for an update. Can't that be done before filing? I'm sure the answer is no.but ... I also thought I was buying Audit guarantee but inadvertently ordered live tax advice which meant I had to go thru the refund process involving a phone call and the loss of my $10 credit. (My bad for sure) By the way, your telephone response time and agent is Fantastic!

Not as good as it used to be

Turbo Tax used to be a lot better. I’ve been using them for quite a few years and they download your return from the previous year but them on various items in this year’s return, the program tells me, “You need to go to such and such a form from last year’s return to get this number.” If you downloaded last year’s return you should have that number.

Great product, annoying repeat prompts to upgrade

Have used TurboTax many years and really appreciate the interface, easy of entering info, especially the ability to take photo of document. Be weary of the product options. Began my return online for free which was fine. Got to end and TurboTax told me it would be $209 for the online product and E-file. Wow, $209. Holy cow! I then remembered we used a download previously. Cheaper, just as easy to use. TurboTax doesn't tell you upfront of options to submit, e.g. desktop download, online. Also, get ready for multiple attempts to get you to upgrade your features over and over, even after you submit it. Great product! Annoying repeat prompts to upgrade.

Product is fine but registration is annoying

Works fine. Easy to use and import information. But this year's 2024 version kept asking me to register the product every time I started it up even after I'd already registered the first time I used it. The product will also require you to login at some point to an Intuit account.

    SNAFU 2024

Completed inputs. Filed Federal return electronically. Was going to file state by mail. Changed mind. Went back into program. Filed state & Fed together. Received email error messages that both state and federal were rejected. Error message said to return to program to be walked thru correction. Reopened program, and it was at the beginning of the "file" section. No further instructions. Rather than retrying to efile, I have printed returns and will mail.

    Bring back the CD ROM!

Bring Back the CD ROM. I never had problems with this product when it was CD ROM based. I had multiple problems with this new non-CD ROM product resulting in significant time spent calling customer support. This used to be a 5 Star product now it is barely average.

Great but need change to state return

Overall excellent; one area for major improvement- on state returns - you should add something specific regarding if you have interest income from US Treasury obligations which are not taxable at state level and therefore need to be subtracted off income before the state tax is determined; there should be a question about this and I did not find it useful on TurboTax helped me here.

    Turbo Tax its okay

The product is getting quite expensive for a digital download and now that there is no physical media involved you should be able to drop the price also the crypto currency section is hard to find as this is a new type of financial asset there should be a dedicated button to take me to this section.

    Turbo Tax needs a competitor

Definite decline in quality. Turbotax is less user friendly by the year. For investments, it now has big boxes rather than a nice, neat, line-up that you can quickly scroll through. Finding answers and explanations has gotten worse - but, that's probably so you will sign up for their expert advice. How you answer questions can really muck up your tax status. If you use step-by-step, double check your forms. And, since federal filing is free, state taxes are now $20.

    Long time Turbo Tax Customer

I have been using Turbo Tax for 25 years and am very happy with this product and the great phone support representatives. It is my product of choice for doing my taxes over the years. I have never been audited meaning this product is reliable and trustworthy.

    Two problems encountered with EasyStep

In preparing my federal return, I encountered a difficulty involving a distribution from an IRA where half of it was taxable and half was a qualified charitable distribution. No matter what I did, EasyStep would not properly allocate the distribution into a taxable portion and a non taxable portion. To resolve this I had to go into Forms, open the relevant 1099-R and in the bottom half of the form check the box ""Recipient, but was originally inherited from a spouse." I had paid estimated taxes to my state of residence, Pennsylvania. In preparing my Pennsylvania return, I found no way under EasyStep to enter estimated taxes paid. I had to go into Forms and manually add my estimated taxes.

    Issues

The system is good and I have used it for many years to file my 1040 and California 540 returns. This year, the periodic requests to enter my keychain password threw me off and cost me time. The latter is a system I do not knowingly use regularly. Your explanations did not help me. There was no way to bypass these requests that I could find. Frustrating.

    Turbo Tax is okay.

The entry of information and the generation of the return are excellent. I particularly appreciate import of stock information. My problem is some annoying interface items. I choose not to register my copy of the software. I do not need to be reminded every time I open my return that I have not done this. Give me the option of never seeing this screen again after the first encounter. When updating the software I want to see what is being updated and have the option not to update at this time. I do not need to sit through a multi minute update when I open the return just to enter a quick form that arrived in today's mail. The software used to allow this. I always updated to the latest prior to filing my return. In fact, I would be s...

    Disappointed Forms not supported

I've been a Turbotax user for decades. But I am not discouraged with the product and may need to go with another provider next year. I have a Qualified Opportunity Fund and need to file a form 8997. I was very disappointed that TurboTax, unlike some competitors, does not support this form. I had to hard print and hand correct forms to meet IRS form 8949 requirements. I'm very disappoint in this lack of supper in what would be an easy fix. Please add for next year.

    Disappointed and frustrated

My experience this year was not as good as in past years. I hate the new way that you are facilitating importing tax documents from financial institutions. It is very off-putting and makes it seem like you are being given access and information that you do not need to fulfill the purpose. Because of this I opted to manually enter information this year which made the preparation process more difficult and less satisfying. I strongly encourage you to re-think how you implement the integrations and for what information you request when importing tax documents.

    Turbo Tax Needs

It would really help if individual pages & worksheets could be printed so we can recall how we answered specific sections or document the conclusions reached by each section of the software. Also, it would be very helpful if the donations section could be sorted or alphabetized to make it easier to find or maintain order. With these additions to the software, our rating would be a 5!
