Excellent program

I had conversations with two online associates as my older computer would not update. They were very patient and a huge help. As it turned out I feel pretty sure it was a filter block on my internet connection. I took the laptop to the office and used the business internet and it worked find.

Disappointing glitches and hidden fees

I have used TurboTax for decades, but this year was the first time I experienced major, frustrating issues. First, the software was incredibly glitchy, automatically entering random numbers into forms that did not match my data. I had to manually delete forms like Schedule A and restart the program just to clear the error. Second, the Federal Review process failed completely. Instead of catching all errors at once, the system made me submit, fix one single error, resubmit, and then fix another error. This tedious, one-by-one process was extremely inefficient. Finally, despite paying for TurboTax Advantage—which is supposed to include Audit Defense—I was hit with an unexpected $45 charge because I filed an extension. Since I filed my returns...

Turbo Tax interface is very user-friendly

The wait time was long; a callback was received after 25 mins but there was no one at Turbo Tax end of the call. this happened twice. I had to get back in line again for another 20 -25 minutes. The third call was successful, and my question was answered to my satisfaction.

    It sorta works every year

TurboTax always sorta works every year. But it's always buggy on release and it will make incorrect calculations that you wouldn't know if you blindly trusted it. Which is probably what most people do. This year it didn't know the 2024 IRA Contribution limit on launch and needed an update to make that correct. I keep using it because I know what to look for in my filing and it's the easiest way to e-File.

    Can't print my return!

Normally, TurboTax is great, I have used it for MANY years. But this time (2024 tax return) I successfully got through all of the numbers and successfully filed the return. The Federal return has even been accepted. BUT I CAN'T SAVE OR PRINT THE RETURN! I click on the Print button, it gives me a notice saying Completing calculations..., and the notice goes away, and nothing happens. I need to have a pdf and print copy of my return for my records. Please help.

    Generally straight-forward; need better links

Generally straight-forward to use but it would be good to have more prompts to inform about information that is not obvious to the general user. Current audit might have been avoided or easier if had better guidance on records to organize for 2022 Clean Energy Tax Credit. Link that should go to Federal Tax forms just goes to TT community and Q&A. Broken links.

    ---

This year Turbotax instructions were more incomplete, harder to understand, and harder to follow than last year. The part on Massachusetts return was especially unclear and missing instructions on my case, dealing with taxes due to another state, DC. The Turbotax assumption was that I would be filling DC state return, whereas in my case DC requires only Form D-30. Once I started doing my Federal return, there was no way to delete the DC return suggested by TurboTax. Quite frustrating...

    Software Constraints

Prefer a CD to load onto my computer. Don't like the option requiring e-filing state return in order to file KC earnings tax refund. Form 1116 Foreign tax credit does not allow for 2 separate investment accounts, then one account with RIC and Switzerland input.

    I stick with Turbo Tax

The "Foreign Tax Paid" 1116 instructions were very discouraging, so I abandoned exploring deduction/credit. The rest of it got me through fairly well. Unfortunately for me, there is always some new wrinkle to figure out. For the second year in a row, my broker download did not work. I'm learning a lot by preparing my family's taxes that makes me hope this External Revenue Service works out. Helped an elderly relative prepare tax return on online version, which I don't like as much as the desktop version.

    Stuck in 2008

I use Turbo Tax Premier. The product is badly in need of updates for both User Experience and Functionality. There are serious errors in the product that now I have also also send documents manually in addition to e-filing. The use experience is sub par and us stuck in in yester years

    Keeping us educated.

Turbo tax used to have more advice from various sources. I feel less enlightened regarding rules and alternative methods, but as for as ease of use, Turbo tax is outstanding. I also like the fact that they carry over items that need to be carried over from year to year.

Final Steps: How To Enter the IP pin number

I have been using Turbo Tax for more than thirty years. Initially, I was impressed with the layout, the intuitiveness of the program paths and the ease in which it handled most tax situations year after year. Some years there would be "the gap" in that intuitiveness to where you would come to a complete halt. The interview questions would be posed so awkwardly as to be misleading in their intent. In other cases information that was entered was correct. Yet a glitch would place it on the form inexplicitly with the decimal point two places from where it should be. But the worse and most disturbing and reoccurring problem that has been the handling of the IRS IP pin numbers. It has never been fully addressed where it should be in the "Fina...

TURBOTAX; all others compare themselves too.

Before we get started, the max I will give a company is 4 stars, The 5th star is reserved for employee(s), when I feel they went above and beyond their duties. I've been using TurboTax since Americas depended on dial up to gain access to the internet. I've always like the simple questions that the program asks. And at anytime the user can get additional information on the item, and if your wanting to see to the IRS instruction/Form. TurboTax has a web link going to the subject matter. Cutting out all that navigation from the homepage. Here are two related sites that work hand in hand with TurboTax, ItsDeductable and TurboTax Blog for users. Both of these sites will assist in making your annual visit with the tax man a little painful...

    Poor 1099-LTC data entry!

The app coverage of 1099-LTC was very poor compared to prior versions of Federal Only apps. This makes me want to work with a new tax software next year. Also the Federal Only apps did a better job of selecting forms completed to work on-- I'm terribly disappointed with this Primier version. I will be evaluating other tax softwares next year that are user friendly towards entering 1099-LTC and rental expenses.

Great program / corrupted save files 3X

tax forms & filing are awesome as usual. Had to do my taxes 4 times because TurboTax kept saying the previous file was "corrupted". So, I decided to simply work all the way through beginning to end to save myself the frustration of having TurboTax corrupt my saved file a fourth time Don't know what kind of issues TurboTax is having this year. Saving uncorrupted files has been around for decades but TurboTax seems to have forgotten how to do it.

Good but multi-state return needs improvement

I am holding back on the 1 star as filing for the non-resident NY state vs the NJ resident state tax return, there is no guidance in the software screen how to handle W-2's col 14 NYSRCINCOM to proportionate the income in the non-resident return filing. That was disappointing and I had to pay for live tax advisor for 1 question. Can you improve this for the next version? Thanks!!

TurboTax K-1 data entry needs correction

Your data entry process for K-1 forms is confusing, specifically as it relates to Box 20 Sec 199A data, and it really needs to be fixed. Even your expert had to stumble through it with me because of the arcane logic that the step-by-step process uses. By following that process one gets an error in the tax form. Only by NOT trying to fill in the Box 20 information at the first prompt and waiting for a second prompt several screens later, does one have success. That needs to be fixed. And overall your K-1 screens could be improved to make data entry easier.

    Turbo Tax is Pretty Good

I've used Turbo Tax for probably 20 years. Every year I say the same thing - it needs to have options to make the typeface larger. I like that it transfers everything from my investment accounts very quickly. In places it gets a little complicated for the state return, but not all that bad. I'm taking off a star because of the too-small typeface.

    Less the great.

10 years plus user. Two things not 100%. 1. I would have sworn in the past that I answered I'll just use the standard deduction. Don't bother me with all the Itemize questions. That did noit happen this time. 2. Tried to print my return for my records but it's not working. I think it may have actually created the PDF but I can not find it to print it.

Thinking of moving to H&R block software.

Even after reading why the program is not recognizing my wife having insurance all year under my family plan I could not seem to change it and either I answered some questions wrong, or it now ask a large number of irrelevant questions about my house which was not refinanced and IRA distributions. Then when doing taxes for my Mom, who is 94, it again did not seem to like the fact she was covered by Medicare all year.

    Best tax program of all!

I have been using TurboTax for a very long time. I have found TTax to be very easy to use plus with the contextual help I can quickly get answers to my questions. I also greatly appreciate the improvements that have been made over the years. Being able to be “walked” through filing out all the tax forms is a huge plus for me. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
