ENOUGH!!!

I have been waiting since 2019 for Turbo Tax to make available the ability to "attach an election statement" to a federal tax return. In particular a statement to elect under IRS CODE SECTION 266 AND IRS REGULATIONS 1.266-1 TO CAPITALIZE RATHER THAN DEDUCT YEARLY PROPERTY TAXES ON UNIMPROVED AND UNPRODUCTIVE RAW LAND. I would NOT think it a difficult task for Turbo Tax programmers to figure out how to do this! Because Turbo Tax REFUSES to make this option available to its users we are FORCED TO PRINT AND FILE OUR TAX RETURNS BY MAIL! I have been more than patient, I've had enough!

TurboTax K-1 data entry needs correction

Your data entry process for K-1 forms is confusing, specifically as it relates to Box 20 Sec 199A data, and it really needs to be fixed. Even your expert had to stumble through it with me because of the arcane logic that the step-by-step process uses. By following that process one gets an error in the tax form. Only by NOT trying to fill in the Box 20 information at the first prompt and waiting for a second prompt several screens later, does one have success. That needs to be fixed. And overall your K-1 screens could be improved to make data entry easier.

Email Inaccuracy

I received an email that stated the following: "We're contacting you because there's an issue with the accuracy of your 2024 Colorado tax return. Due to an error, you overpaid your state taxes." after revieing it with your "expert" we determined that in fact I'm not due a refund. If that's the case, then why did I receive that email and text as it was a waste of time to amend my return.

TT is difficult

xx

the final return required taxpayer to file directly with the IRS additional information but could not describe what that information was which leaves us with a return that maybe rejected by the IRS. the reference to additional information required did not work with Turbo Tax

Persistent issues

Continuing to use, but some long-standing issues still not resolved: 1) Printing is archaic - one can either print the entire return, or manually select individual forms BUT no way to print the return as sent to IRS using two-sided printing without having to select each page individually. 2) Handling of Foreign Tax Credit is insane! After years of wondering what the heck the program required, I finally realized that TT requires us to MANUALLY figure out a form 1099 for each foreign country, subtracting each of these from the main form 1099-DIV – HUH? The whole point of using tax software is for the program to do these calculations for us (all the required information is already included in the form 1099 from the brokerage; we need only confirm the amounts or the foreign source income for each country or brokerage).

A fantastic product!

TurboTax is great. It makes filing taxes super easy. The AI help where clarifications are needed is genuinely helpful, and I never felt like I needed to reach out to a live person. However, the process is so straightforward that even with my relatively complicated situation (rental properties, multiple LLCs, etc.) it was still very smooth. My only critique, and it's minor and doesn't warrant losing a star, is that I have done my taxes in previous years with the desktop version. This year, I initially opted for TurboTax online, but I had a lot of difficulty figuring out how to pull my 2023 return over from the desktop. I don't understand why it doesn't seamlessly integrate. Even after I uploaded the return to the "documents" section, it wouldn't autogenerate information from the previous year. In the end I ended up downloading the 2024 desktop version and that worked perfectly.

Underpaid Colorado TABOR state sales tax refund

I was notified my Colorado State Tax was in error and needed to AMEND it and enter the reason for amending as: "to correct the amount of Tabor state sales tax refurnd". I never saw in TurboTax state where to make this note. In fact it doesn't even say amended. It did reflect that previously I got $1,426.00 refund and now the refund is $1,352.00. I did get the e-deposit of 1426.00. So now I need to send a $74.00 payment to the State of Colorado. How???? Turbo Tax just left it as a $1,352.00 refund.

Turbo Tax needs some improvement over.

I found the 2825 Turbo Tax program to the least user friendly since I have been using Turbo Tax. Some of the guidance was not clear and the program would not transfer 1099s from the source even though I was able to print those 1099s at the source. Some how after my 1040 was completed, reviewed and approved foe E filing by both me and the program. The forms and amount for payment were ready for printing. However, what was sent from Turbo Tax was different from what I printed out. Five months later I received a notice from the the IRA that I owed a large sum including a penalty for not taking an RMD from a nonexciting IRA. I contacted Turbo Tax by phone and talked to an agent named Kimberly. We spent a great deal of time searching for the source of the error which was complicated by the IRS notice which claimed the The IRA was an annuity which it was not. There was a clue as to the source of the problem by the mention of one of my retirement plans that is not an annuity. After a great deal of time of unsuccessful searching, Kimberly suggested the we do a line by line review of everything relevant to that entry. She finally spotted what she thought was the problem and had me o back to the original submittal and change that item. Problem solved. She then guided me through an amendment which restored the tax form to what was originally printed and we E filled that form and everything sited by IRS disappeared. This is a very long comment because I wanted to highlight how difficult it was to find and correct the problem and I could not have done it without Kimberly . I also doubt that any tax consultant would have found the error. Prior to my time with Kimberly, I had decided to not use Turbo Tax in the future. However, even though even Kimberly could not determine how a different version of my form was sent to the IRS than the one printed by the program I intend to use Turbo Tax in the future. I don't doubt that it is is very difficult deal with the IRS but if every Turbo Tax employee developing the program was as alert as Kimberly, you would produce a better product.

Taxes ugh! :(

I like how the system reviews your information and tells you what can be done to fix corrections. Also the glossary provides good information. Lastly, I always go through each of the tabs to see if something is applicable to my situation. This is helpful.

Glitch with Amended Return

So I completed an amended return with TurboTax 3 weeks ago. And authorized direct payment from my checking account. I never got an accept/reject and the money was never taken from account. I repeated it again yesterday. Within hours I got an "acceptance" from IRS. My account still says I have Federal Tax Due...but my amended return says it was paid. Not sure if it will come out of my account and don't know how to find out if there is a glitch. Also wondering if, at some point, I'll get double withdrawn from the earlier amended return. Very frustrating. Have used TurboTax for years with no problems.
