A few FAILS for Turbo Tax this year

Not auto-filling the State of Colorado portion of federal adjustments I understand. Not providing enough information to help me figure out what goes there I consider a major fail on your side. When I did figure it out, I realized I had been missing this important deduction for many years. So far, catching it saved me $132 this year and amending 2023 to recover $62 overpaid to the state of CO. I have zero state tax owed and it's $25 to do a state efile. I told turbo tax I wanted to mail. Upon printing your program insisted that I DID efile and gave appropriate instructions for efile, NOT the instructions I needed (to mail). That actually took an unnecessary bit of time to figure out. FAIL

TurboTax does the job - has a couple of quirks

Two small issues: 1. Instructions for Form 8949 are obtuse. All I needed to include was the 1099-B detail page for trans with non-reported cost basis. 2. After deductions & credits, review page ERRONEOUSLY shows vehicle registration fees added to PRIOR year standard deduction.

Turbo tax is slipping

I was very very disappointed in turbo tax this year. The federal government came up with a different amount than Turbo tax on my federal form. On my Oregon form , turbo tax did not have a critical worksheet for calculating tax on farm property sold so I had to do my Oregon tax by hand even though I paid for state version

Turbo Tax Saves The Davis Family

This software is very easy to use. I purchased a more expensive version because we have rental property in another state and have gone through extensive renovations which we could not use as a deduction before. This version allowed me to list money spent on my rental property, but I found it difficult to do the same with my primary residence. I renovated three bathrooms in my primary dwelling, but I couldn't find where to list this expense($9000). I also replaced my gutters for $6500 and again I had no easy resolution to deducting this expense. In spite of this problem, I am sure that my regular deduction covered most of this situation.

Disappointing e-file experience- Never again!

The system does not understand that I can be single for Federal Tax but married RDP for CA and therefore rejects both because of the discrepancy of filing status. This is even with constant updates through 4/2/2026. I paid $25 to e-file CA, and AFTER paying, I am told you cannot e-file.

1099-B Nominee Distribution

I have a joint investment account with someone, not my spouse. The account tax number is mine. I was able to adjust the 1099-int and the 1099-div. But I found it difficult to adjust the 1099-B. I had to do some research on my own. I think I figured it out. Not sure if I did it right to avoid an audit, but did it good enough to avoid any penalty. Not sure if I have the correct code in column F on the 8849.

Arbitrarily added a "Canadian Retirement" form

TurboTax arbitrarily added a "Canadian Retirement" form, with a stream of questions pertaining to the phantom "Canadian Retirement" which persisted through the whole filing, even though we had no contact or income with Canada. At the final check, the form disappeared. If I had requested paid assistance it would have been a waste of the $60 fee, plus the time on both sides to resolve the nonexistent "Canadian Retirement" issue.

Costs way to much for such a buggy program.

Turbo Tax Premier kept putting in a Canadian Retirement Pension in my worksheet and I kept trying to delete it because I don't have it, but it would not go away. There were a lot of folks having this problem since software was released and no fix. When a bug is found, it needs to be fixed immediately. Had to go into forms and remove it there and make sure it was not filed. Also, some questions need more explanation and program is buggy. This software cost a lot, and I will consider new software next year.

Stop assigning penalties for refunds!

Turbo Tax should not be assigning penalties on returns. If the IRS wants to assign a penalty for under withholding, it is their right and their decision to do so. No way should Turbo Tax assume this task and make this determination. Even more ridiculous, Turbo Tax assigns penalties on returns getting REFUNDS. How insane is this! I work in a tax office in Texas that does thousands of tax returns every year. No matter the circumstances of the taxpayer, we have never encountered a taxpayer who received a refund getting penalized by a penalty. Some overzealous intern on your staff must have gone off on a wild goose chase and put this feature in your software. I suggest you take it out immediately. If the IRS wants to assign a penalty, they will. They don't need Turbo Tax running amuck and sprinkling penalties. It makes you look like idiots.

TurboTax doing taxes

This is why I am not very happy with TurboTax. Very much annoying questions concerning a survey and if I got support from them. I think things were accurate and it was not too bad. Plenty of features with the new tax laws. Good interface with imports and such. Seems compatible with all. This is very annoying that we hav o ove all this stuff for your silly survey.
