Almost duplicate forms 8949 not caught by review.

Everything went great except that I started the tax return in December to see if I should make a deposit because I made a few thousand dollars in the stock market. I knew my Quicken program wouldn't be correct, but close, and I knew I would wait until February to finish my taxes. In February, I started my return and deleted my Quicken download and started my return. I finished my return, and it showed I owed $1500.00. I went into Forms and found that there were two 8949 forms that were almost identical. The one from Quicken was not deleted when I deleted the Quicken download. In my final review It indicated that everything was correct. I would have thought that TurboTax would have caught 2 almost identical forms 8949.I actually only owed $233.00, which was in the ballpark of what I figured it would be. I was glad I went over my forms again before sending them.

Turbo Tax Unimpressive this Year

Waiting for updates to federal forms well into February was inexcusable. Other tax programs had the forms ready to go well before Turbo Tax. Secondly, Turbo Tax language and instructions regarding retired public safety workers being able to claim a $3,000 deduction based on medical insurance premiums that were paid is not completely accurate and not very helpful - in fact it is confusing and does not appear to be up to date (you are still tying it to a pension payment and making it seem like the insurance premiums must still be taken from the pension payments - which is no longer true as the IRS rule/law was changed.

Another year - well, it worked

Frustrating in several places this year (tax year 2025). Import from our investments (Chase) was delayed at least partially because the software was not ready at first to accept the files. - Updates seemed not to get around to having this work until some time later. - The instructions were not always clear and their lack or paucity caused confusion and anxiety.

Turbo Tax is Wonderful.!

I have used TurboTax for more years than I can remember. It easily and accurately pulls in information from my prior year return. I download the software to my computer vs using the online version. With having the software on my computer, I am also able to create an estimated tax return for the following year to aid in determining my estimated tax payments. When running the Smart Check, I usually only encounter a few items that need to be addressed. This year I used the Turbo Tax Community Support in mid January for my Wisconsin tax return in order to find out how to elect to take the new WI Retirement Income Subtraction to offset my pension income. There was a topic already started on this issue. The issue was eventually resolved later in January in one of the software updates (just need to be patient). However, I would like to see Turbo Tax make that tax benefit election more visible in Schedule SB. It currently is "hidden" in the "Retirement Income Adjustments" selection. But when this is selected, the next screen that comes up lists 4 obscure retirement items, but does not show the new WI Retirement Income Subtraction until you click "Continue" and then the question about electing this tax benefit appears (assuming one is eligible for it). The e-filing process for both the federal and state tax returns was easy and successfully completed. In fact, my federal return was already accepted shortly after filing. .

Turbotax is disappointing

Very little on-screen help is provided to understand the questions being asked. Especially true if you have multiple sources of income from one fiduciary, or if you have more than one fiduciary reporting the same type of income. We were just baffled by some screens. While Turbotax may be the best product out there for an individual user, it certainly does not inspire confidence in the output.

Not as good this year as in the past.

This year's release went much more gooey in entering some of the data. It doesn't include a cross-check to the forms we have, which are pretty prescript in the fields (1099 forms in particular). The gooey interface questions are way too subjective.

Problems efiling federal and state taxes

This year had trouble with inputs of energy efficiency improvements claim credit. Turbo tax couldn't efile the taxes due to an error Had to delete the entry in order to efile loosing $600 credits. Also on the State efile (Alabama) I was keep getting an error on non resident form (I've been filing the same way every year). Tried multiple times until finally got through. Not sure will use turbotax next year for 2026 taxes

TurboTax has become less user-friendly

It has become less user-friendly. e.g. found more errors and to fix them were not straight forward. No help on each page as easy as used to be. Now it goes to an online help that was not very useful. It seems it was made this way to "encourage" us to use the live help that would cost $60.

All in all, pretty darn good

I thought the software was pretty good this year. A place or two where the cursor could have been in the right location when the page loaded where it was not, some things where the wording was a bit confusing for me to understand. However, consider both of those nit-picks. My biggest issue is that I can't decipher how the software came up with the amount of tax that I owed. Seems to me that this is purely numerical once you have taken into account all deductions/credits and whether the source income is ordinary or qualified, but I could never make sense of it and that frustrates me.

TurboTax really excels in meeting our needs.

Importing the tax information from last year was critical. We liked the ability to download information directly from our financial institutions (this save a lot of time). The questions posed by Turbo Tax are generally straightforward but not always. We liked being able to go back and review individual topics. In past years we had difficulty accessing Form 8606 for IRA distributions. We have learned to search for the form we needed under the list of forms - and we were able to fill it out with information specific to our needs. One criticism - at the end, when Turbo Tax is reviewing for errors - the alert said we had to fill in the box on line 22 on a 1099-INT, however, we had 16 1099-INT forms and it was a real pain to determine which one TurboTax had targeted. If the goal is to fix errors, then the software should just bring up the form that needs to be corrected. That would be very helpful. I think TurboTax gets smarter each year - and perhaps listens to customers reviews. Kudos to staff for the changes you have made over the years.
