I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. This was my first time trying tamales and I was unsure what to expect. I followed the instructions and cooked these in the microwave for the time it said, but they were still cold so I had to heat them for a little while longer. Since I was a newbie, I didn't realize you take off the little corn wrapper first (I know, silly me). When I took my first bite it was really bland, it was supposed to be filled with pork, but I could barely taste it. As I kept eating it, it was falling apart. I decided to add some sour cream and salsa to try and give it a little more flavor, which helped a little, but not a lot. I was a little disappointed and wouldn't buy these again.

I tried them with both cooking instructions. I steamed them first. I normally make my own tamales which are very time intensive to make. Steaming is the way you cook tamales, so that's my preferred method. Over two days I adjusted the recommended time. The original warming time instructions left the maza in the tamales really tough. I doubled the time on the second batch and had no change. I tripled the cooking time and still no change. That was 10 min. Then 20 min. And finally 30 min. When you re-heat tamales using the Steaming method, in my experience they get softer and softer with time. I also tried the microwave method as last resort. There was no difference between the both methods.

They are all about the same size and roughly 6 inches long. If you like tamales they are convenient as they only take 1-2 minutes to heat up in the microwave. The flavor is bland though. You can taste some slight spice but not at all what I was expecting since the ingredients list chili peppers and jalapenos in the sauce. I think the biggest problem is the lack of meat. They are very underfilled and the pork is shredded way too thin, it's almost like a meat paste. If someone blindfolded me and made me tell them what meat was in the tamale I wouldn't be able to identify it. I ended up putting some sour cream on my tamales and that helped with the flavor a lot.

A tiny bit of spice (if you like it a little milder get the chicken ones), great corn flavor, and plenty of meat (sometimes tamales are all masa). My family liked them with a bit of sour cream on a bed of shredded lettuce. Good stuff!

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. I tried the Del Real Foods Pork Tamales in red sauce. These are some of the best tamales I have ever had! They are so soft, not dry at all (I hate dry tamales), and they have the perfect amount of sauce/meat/masa ratio. The taste is perfect, just the way I would imagine the perfect tamales to taste. Would definitely buy again for my family!
