I bought my 6000 btu unit last year but got my old one working so waited until this year to put it in. After using it for about a week, I am actually very disappointed in it due to a list of problems.
on the remote, you have a choice of auto, cool, or dry. I first set it to 62° and auto. It worked for a short time then just suddenly shut down for no reason. It was 70° in my room at the time so it definitely was not due to being cool enough. After checking other settings, I found that if I changed it to cool it would stay running with no problems. So I left it on that.
When I turn the system off because it gets cool enough, but a few hours later turn it back on, for some reason I need to hit the power button 2 times before it will start up. It beeps when it recognizes a remote button is pushed, and I hear the beep, so I know it recognizes my pushing the power button. but why I have to hit it twice every time I have no idea.
We got a midea 9000 btu system about 9 years back, and found with that one, the way that these are designed is to evaporate the water instead of needing it to drain somewhere. Good idea in principle as it will prevent damage to buildings as it drains. The problem is, it doesn't drain fast enough in humid areas and still overflows, just not as bad. Our old 9000 but one does have a drain overflow hole where the water can escape as to not overflow the system. This 6000 btu one does not.
It still works under the same principle as the 9000 one, but since there is no overflow hole, mine has filled up with water to the point that when you turn it on you can hear the water swishing around inside the pan. Ever since it has filled up with water, every time I leave it off for a few hours and turn it back on, I get this really strong musty smell coming from it for a short time. Again, this only started after the pan filled up with water.
After the pan filled up, I also noticed that the humidity in my room went up significantly too. This was not a problem before it filled up with water in the pan.
The top has a solid track the whole width of the AC until for the side accordian fans to go in. This is good because it helps stabilize them. but the bottom they only have one 2" bracket for each side. A combination of that, and the fact that the side accordian wings are so cheaply made, it makes it extremely hard to get them to stay in place with the design of my window. If they would have put 1 solid track for them to run in on the bottom like they did the top, this would have fixed a lot of my problems installing this. FYI, my old Frigidaire AC unit that this one is replacing did have that single solid piece. it was much better and more stable.
When I got mine, it was still 100% new with no signs of being touched. but the feet on the bottom on one side were scratched up bad, like when it was being assembled, it was dragged across some concrete on the one side. This is obviously a cosmetic thing, but better care should've taken.
