Over all excellent - Functional Wi-Fi coverage an issue

I have had this printer for approximately three years. In fact, I have been using Epson printers (WF4020) even longer. In the past three months the 4850 continues to drop the Wi-Fi signal, so remote access is out of the question. In an effort to diagnose the problem and look for a potential fix, I fond that this is a common problem. All of the other functions work perfectly.

EcoTank is Incredible. Believe the HYPE. Love this Printer.

I will be the first to admit that I had heard of EcoTank, but always thought it was some kind of marketing gimmick. I had heard ads on NPR about Epson EcoTank and how it can save you on dozens of ink cartridges. I thought “why would Epson want to destroy their profits by selling fewer cartridges”? I was a doubter. After having used the Epson ET-4850 for the past two weeks, I can tell you BELIEVE THE HYPE. EcoTank really is a game-changer, when I opened that box and saw these generous four large bottles of ink, I was blown away. It was way more than I imagined, and for the first time in a long time with a printer, I was excited. I could print color pages without “ink anxiety”. In years past, I would never print things in color because it was only for emergencies, it was too precious and rare to use my color ink. Now that anxiety is slowly fading away. **Love about the ET-4850** Easy to fill ink bottles. At first sight of the Ink bottles, I was intimidated, I was worried they would leak everywhere and it was going to be a huge mess. Anyone who has bought a bottle of ink and tried to refill a standard ink cartridge in a printer knows what I am talking about. These EcoTank bottles are pretty much idiot-proof. They have special fit nozzles that only open when put into the correct slot on the printer, you are not going to get ink on your hand or table or anything. Plus each color has a specially shaped nozzle so you can’t mess them up and get the wrong color ink in the wrong tank. It is so easy and with zero mess. I love EcoTank. Printing quality. Wow, the quality of what I was able to print off was simply astonishing. I printed some very high-definition drawings and you could not even see the pixels, my wife thought I had taken pages out of a professionally printed book. They look that good. I have never owned a printer that was able to print to the very edge of a paper, with zero borders and this thing can do it flawlessly, and it looks incredible. I haven’t had the chance to print off any photos yet, but I imagine they would look just as good. In terms of print quality, just outstanding. 5 out of 5. Speed. For an inkjet printer and the high quality of the images, I was very impressed. Make no mistake this is not a laser printer, so don’t come expecting laser printer speeds. But the speed with which it prints images is pretty good, and for home use with a family or even a small office, this is a great printer. Just don’t go expecting to print off large batches of documents with minutes to spare. Amazing scanning. This printer has the best scanner I have ever owned. For years I have used the scanner on my Brother laser printer for scanning. I know am thinking about rescanning all those old photos over again because this scanner is just that much better. I’m just blown away at the super high resolution and color accuracy of the scans. The best scanner I could have asked for. Connectivity. I was able to initially set up the printer entirely from my iPhone. Was able to add it to my wifi network and follow the onscreen instructions in the Epson app to fill the ink and do some printing tests. It worked really well. Once it was on my wifi network, I was able to use Apple AirPrint from my iPhone to print directly to the printer with no additional setup. I love it. Physical Pinter. The printer is a good size, it’s not going to overtake your desk, but you would be best putting it on its own shelf. I have the write version, so I hope the plastic does not yellow over the years, if you place it near a window, you may want to get the black version. The scanner, buttons, and hinges feel very solid. The touch screen is not a capacitive touch screen like you know from your phones or iPad, it uses the older resistive touch screen technology. That being said, it still works pretty well and responds to my touches and I am able to use the UI with one finger. Just don’t go in expecting iPhone-level touch controls. The paper tray takes a 1/2 ream of paper, which is decent. I would have preferred a full ream of paper, but that would have added about another inch to the high of the machine. Seeing as this is not a laser printer, 250 sheets is going to last you a long time. **Room for Improvement** Connectivity and apps. To put it bluntly, connecting the printer to outside services like Dropbox is a pretty clunky experience. It can’t be done on the Printer Screen itself, or on the Printer App, you have to print off a physical paper on the printer that gives you a special password, and then you have to go to some other Epson website outside the app to find setup the service. It’s not very seamless and really has some serious room for improvement. I was confused about the process and nearly gave up after 20 minutes. Epson does not make it easy having so many different apps in the App Store. Scanner Presets. Another thing I would love to see is saved presets for Scanning on the printer. The scanner is fantastic and very high quality, but every time I want to go in and scan a photo, I have to changes it from PDF to JPEG and change all number of other settings on the printer. I really wish there was an ability to save a preset of settings for “Scan Photo” or “Scan Document” Ink tank LEDs. On the box, the actual tank for the EcoTank looks really colorful and vibrant. In reality, the windows on the tank are very muted and dark. This is a very minor complaint, but one that I would love to see regardless. That is, I would love to see an LED light in the back of the EcoTank so you can clearly see the different colors of ink and their levels. This is a review for the Epson EcoTank ET-4850 All-in-one printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Last step a "FAIL"

I bought this today. I went through the setup and the last step is "Express Product Registration". After entering all the information, a red message presents saying "Enter a valid serial number". IT IS CORRECT!!! Epson, you need to test all the way through! I don't know if I would recommend this product, I just set it up! Fix this!!

Loud and slow

Just set this up and done 40 pages. and 2 copies. Prints fine but it is the loudest printer I have ever owned. Don't expect to talk on the phone while it's printing. Also from print button to 1st page - 35 secs!! then 15 secs to print one page. My HP that died was quieter and faster. Hope the Ecotank feature will make up for the noise and the speed. Too early to know if I would recommend this printer to a friend, so I said NO, but that could change.

Nice home office printer

It came very well packaged in the box. It took a bit to get started but followed the instructions on my mobile phone by scanning the QR code on the set-up sheet. It takes you step by step on adding ink, setting up with wireless network, and setting proper print alignments. It does take a bit of time. I installed computer driver software from their website on my two home office pc’s with no problems. The print quality is good for an inkjet printer. Knowing (from my previous printer experience) if you want to have relatively problem free WiFi connectivity issues over time, you must assign the printer a static IP address (DHCP IP reservation). I did this through my home router. It will take you some time to figure it out, but it’s necessary, if you want to avoid your printer (on occasion) not responding when wanting to scan/print something. Here is a YouTube link that can be helpful on this topic. https://youtu.be/-G3ePnXAoHc?si=2vup_9_xeb8_qW2M

Flawless! Best printer I've used!

The Epson Eco Tank ET-4850 was a wonderful surprise for this home office user. It is compact, quiet and the easiest functioning printer I have ever used. The setup is, without doubt, the most seamless and fastest you can imagine. I have read and listened to reviews about the EcoTank instead of ink cartridges and was doubtful about the results. Well, doubt no more. Everything you hear about this compact beautyis the truth. Let me tell you what I experienced. First, this all-in-one came packed in a great sturdy box with really secure packaging inside so that the printer would not shift or move during shipping. It came out of the box easily and was surprisingly light compared to my previous Epson WF-3740 that was a true workhorse. Setup with the easy to read instructions and the Epson app was amazingly simple. I must admit that when I first started the download and connection to my home network, I expected a long process that had been my experience in the past. This was so quick I was amazed. The speed of this ink jet printer is about the best I've seen. It has the capability of duplex printing and does it quickly and effortlessly. The ink bottles are a game changer. I was a bit apprehensive at first. However, this was about the easiest process I could imagine. Each color ( black, cyan, yellow and magenta) each came in a separate bottle. Here's best part: each one of them has a specifically designed nozzle that will only fit it's corresponding color, so you can't screw it up! YAY! The bottle automatically empties itself into the tank which has a window on the front so you always know your ink levels. Now to printing which was amazing. The print quality was crisp, bright and very high definition. The photos were just the best I have ever printed and my husband (amateur photographer) was tickled pink with the results. His still life photos had depth and clarity that heretofore had never printed so beautifully. Kudos to the print quality. The scanner is great. It worked so easily and produced such high quality results I was truly impressed. Scanning either to print, the cloud or to save to memory all went off without a hitch. It scanned with far more detail than I have had before. The copier is just the best, I have to say. With the number of copies that I have to make on a weekly basis for my class and groups, I can't ask for a better copier. Just as the scanning and printing, the copies come out clear and crisp. Works for me. The touchscreeen display is bright and the presets help with and easy flow of the tasks. It takes you from step to step through the setup and for whatever task you need to complete with this little gem of an all-in-one Epson ET-4850. No more ink cartridges for me! Great Printer

This printer is great. I first started off with scanning pictures that I needed for a slide show. This was simple to do and the pictures turned out awesome! When I have printed some documents I was amazed at the speed in which it printed. Much faster than other printers I have used. The setup was a breeze and adding ink, to me, was super cool. The simplicity of inserting the ink bottle and letting it fill the tank was fun to watch. After about 10 minutes I was setup and full of ink and ready to start printing. I truly am LOVING what this printer has to offer.

I purchased this printer several weeks ago but, as with a lot of new technology I was intimidated to use it! So, it took me awhile to take it out of the box and set it up! It was another couple weeks before I set it up after watching a few YouTube videos about it and rereading the instructions several times. I finally got the courage to go through the set up process and after figuring out they correct password for my router, everything seems to be working fine and I have added the EpsonSmartPanel to my new devices and that was easier to set up on those than I anticipated so, it’s WONDERFUL I can print now wirelessly from them! I’m still trying to figure out the proper way (for me) to print pages 1 to1 or 1 to 2!? Not sure what I prefer yet but, MORE than anything I’m happy I have it set up! I think it’s worth the money I paid for it and I should get several years use out of it, at least!?

Big Disappointment

I purchased the ET-4850. I am very disappointed. I set this printer up in my home office over the weekend. It's caused me nothing but issues. It stalls while scanning. I cannot print a different size paper in it, like a check. It jams every single time. I should have stuck with my old HP printer.

Say goodbye to ink cartridges FOREVER!

Epson EcoTank is changing the game. I received my EcoTank ET-4850 last week. Let me start off by saying setup was a breeze. At times you are not sure where to start with new technology but Epson made it foolproof with this one. The app was easy to navigate, ink was simple to load and I successfully got it linked to my home WIFI network without any challenges. In the past, the WIFI step has caused me some trouble so I was relieved that this process was so simple. This multifunction printer is excellent for your home office and small business. You can print, copy and scan with great quality from this single device. The duplex printing capability is also a huge win allowing you to easily conserve paper and waste. The printing quality is superb. This inkjet printer offered crisp rich colors that you might typically find from a laser printer. The size might be a tab large for the average home user but I feel it's worth it for all the features that are offered. One last note that I thought was great as I have experienced problems in the past with other printers is the document feeder. This model has a high-capacity document feeder that operates smoothly and jam-free and in my line of work, it is a blessing. All in all, this printer has exceeded my expectations.
