Amazing sound with no gels. Crisp clean and bass!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The JBL Live Flex earbuds are gel-free earbuds promoted as all-day headphones: designed to be as useful in the office on meetings as on the train listening to music. If earbuds with no gels don't cause you discomfort, then these might be for you. Music: 9 of 10 For not having gels to fill my ears, I was really expecting these earbuds to have poor sound. When I saw that these don't have gels, I prepared my 'Music' rating to be 5 or 6...Every other pair I've tried without gels sound flat. I have to say, for not having gels, these sound really, really good..amazing even. Once I tuned them with the equalizer, they were really close to my old favorite earbuds. They are very crisp and clean.. I can hear things in music tracks I've never noticed before. While not quite as punchy as I'm used to, there actually is a nice bass curve, which is pretty amazing with no gels. My rating creeped higher and higher the longer I listened... honestly they could be 10 out of 10, but my personal taste is to have just a little bit more oomph on the low end. Calls/meetings: 10 of 10 JBL tells me that these have 6 microphones. I used them for work meetings, and actually called myself to have a listen. They sound good, and I was able to have conversations in noisy and windy environments with no issues. These work, they last a long time, and the controls do what I need. Podcast / Audiobook: 10 of 10 For all the reasons described above in Music and Calls, these buds are even more perfect for spoken word audio. They sounded perfectly balanced and super crisp and clear. Clarity 10 of 10 Given that these are designed to be used as "all day" earbuds, for calls, conferences, music, and everything else, I felt like clarity deserved it's own ranking here. These definitely get full points. As mentioned above, music and spoken word was crystal clear. Same for conference calls. Comfort: 5 of 10 Without different sized gels, everyone's experience with these will be different. I generally have pretty big earholes, and these fit well: not too snug, but not so loose that they fall out or have poor sound. I will say, for non-gel earbuds, they are comfortable, but even still, after about 4 hours, I had a bit of an ear ache. One note: these earbuds sit fairly flat against my ear, which can be a nice feature if wanting to wear these under, say a helmet, sound protection, or anything covering one's ears. I could see these earbuds becoming my go to pair under my helmet for motorcycle riding. Controls/Software: 9 of 10 Controls are standard with the expected ambient controls, pause, hangup, mute, skip, rewind, etc. They are touch controls, rather than a tactile push... sometimes the touch controls can be a bit finnicky, but these are nice and responsive. The Person-fi with hearing test is nice, but I had to modify the resulting EQ as the resulting sound was a bit tinny. The EQ is nice, there are sound presets, or you can create a very basic waveform with just a couple points. You can also get really specific and dial in your sound with 10 adjustable frequencies. There are nice options in the software like balance, max volume, find my buds, auto play/pause, and some power saving options. Pairing and connecting was completely intuitive: quick and easy. The Bluetooth 5.3 connection never faltered once. One feature new to me here is that the case can be wirelessly charged. I thought this was silly at first, but the more I use it, the more I appreciate it. Noise cancelling: 6 of 10 JBL has their noise cancelling tech down, and these earbuds try, but I think without the gels, there is just too much ambient sound that can seep in. Battery: 8 of 10 Rated 8 hours plus 32 hours in case. Search the internet for longest lasting earbuds, and you see 10 to 12 hours.. so these are close with 8 hours plus the case. A full workday (or a full night's sleep) is enough for me.. though I removed an additional point as I think it's closer to 6 hours + 24 hours with noise cancelling on. TL;DR: I really do recommend these, though it will depend on the fit in your ears! Having no gels is a pro or con depending on your preference. If you are in the 'no gel' camp, get these! For me, the lack of gels means a (very slightly) less full sound, less noise cancelling, and less comfort.

Great daily driver. JBL signature sound.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Opening the JBL live flex, you'll notice everything I neatly an smartly packaged. JBL has always been great with choosing great materials for packing of their products. The case feels good in hand. Good weight and a sense of quality. It's not gonna fall apart or snap apart. It feels of quality. Included is a orange usbA to usb C for charging. I use the wireless charging capabilities for convenience and am happy that was included. Battery life I admirable an always gets me through a extended gym session. Touch controls are handy and customizable inside the jbl headphone app. The app is easy to navigate, everything is laid out clearly and easy to understand and manipulate. Sound isolation with this type of headphone can be tricky depending on ear size an fit of headphone inside ear. These sit inside ears but not inside ear canal. For what they are, they seal admirably and provide more than expected noise cancellation. Ambient aware works well when when you need to hear around you or have a conversation. Sound is punchy and vibrant. If you like the Jbl signature sound, you will like these. I would place these headphones in a casual listening situation. Easy in, easy out. Taking them out walking, work well. Light gym duty works well. But they do dislodge easy when bouncing around. You will find yourself pushing an re-positioning them if you jog or jostle around. They are very comfortable to wear however and are a joy to listen to. I listen to EDM and bouncier music an these headphones suit that style well. They paired easily out of the box and connect fast to my google pixel 7. Set up correctly an they also work with hands free assistant which is very nice. These are very nice for the price and have loved using them in my day to day, whether it's gym use or wandering around the store in my own bubble.

Superb Sound, Marginal Noise Cancelling

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As expected with JBL audio products, the sound quality of these Live Flex earbuds is superb — full, clear and well balanced with crisp highs, natural mids and proportional bass at all volume levels. There's no artificial “hyper” bass like some brands use to fake a big sound at the expense of true sound quality. Even better, you can use the companion JBL Headphones app to create a custom EQ profile that totally suits your listening preference. I was especially impressed by the “Personi-Fi” hearing profile test conducted by the app on setup. It really did a great job of analyzing the weak points in my hearing profile and applying automatic adjustments to compensate. In my case, some of the higher frequencies were re-shaped and emphasized in a way that really enhances the audio quality in the frequency ranges where I have some hearing loss, making the whole listening experience quite improved and personalized. These earbuds are quite comfortable and stay in well. I have been able to wear them for many hours at a time with little to no ear fatigue (though I did find that wearing them the entire workday did become a bit much). The touch controls are easy to navigate once you get the hang of the single-tap, multi-tap, and long-tap gestures, and the touch controls can be further customized with the app to suit your preferences. I find the flat stem design also creates a larger touch surface that is easier to trigger than similar earbuds with a rounded stem. This makes the touch controls less fickle and more pleasant to use. Phone call audio quality is excellent, and people I call tell me that the outgoing audio is clear and natural sounding. I have other earbuds where the microphone quality seems a bit compromised and the sound quality is a bit "off”. But these Live Flex earbuds appear to have really risen to the next level with outstanding microphone quality. On the downside, the adaptive noise cancelling (ANC) experience with these earbuds leaves much to be desired. The ANC technology is great, but the semi-open design means there is no silicon tip to insert into the ear canal and create a sound isolation seal. This semi-open design has the advantage to some people of greater comfort and ambient awareness, but this also inherently means there is also no sound isolation barrier created by the earbuds, and adding noise cancellation to earbuds of this semi-open type really provides very little benefit to the listening experience. I find that the ANC on these earbuds might take some of the edge off the ambient noise by maybe 15-20% (mostly quiet fans and other white noise sources), but I am still able to directly hear most of the ambient noise leaking past the earbuds and directly into my ear. If you prefer the fit and feel of this type of semi-open earbud design you will gain a marginal audio quality benefit from the ANC, but you should not expect to have anything near the isolation experience that in-the-ear earbuds with noise cancellation can achieve. One other minor gripe is I'm really not a fan of the JBL trend towards gloss finishes and chrome accents. I like my electronics and accessories understated and don't want them to bling and sparkle. Simple matte color schemes with understated designs are more my style. As stated, sound quality is where these earbuds shine, and overall I'm really enjoying the superb quality listening experience they provide. Understanding the semi-open design is intended to provide some ambient awareness, I will be constrained to using them in quieter environments or to environments where some ambient awareness is desired. However, with these constraints, I could honestly just do without the ANC feature and be perfectly content with the remaining features of these excellent earbuds at a lower price point.

A Game-Changer for Workouts and Everyday Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The JBL Live Flex headphones are truly impressive. Right from the start, they offer a perfect fit without stretching or discomfort around my ears. They stay securely in place even during intense activities like running on the treadmill or high-intensity workouts, which is a huge plus. One of the standout features is the wireless charging, which is incredibly convenient, especially when traveling. The battery life is outstanding—offering up to 8 hours of playback on a single charge, and with the charging case, you get an additional 32 hours if it's fully charged. That's plenty of power to get through a long day, or even several, without worrying about recharging. For those of us who work up a sweat or work in dusty environments, the water and dust resistance is a lifesaver. Whether I'm hitting the gym or spending time on the farm, I can rely on these headphones to withstand my active lifestyle. The Adaptive Noise Cancelling technology is another highlight. The headphones use built-in microphones to automatically adjust the noise-canceling level based on your surroundings, which is a game-changer. I've used large over-ear noise-canceling headphones for tasks like mowing the lawn or blowing leaves, but now I can use the Live Flex for the same tasks—much more portable and just as effective. Finally, the Spatial Sound feature adds an immersive quality to your music, making you feel like you're at a concert or in a theater. It's a fantastic listening experience. All of these settings, from sound preferences to noise cancellation, are easily adjustable through the intuitive JBL Headphone app, which makes personalizing your experience straightforward. Overall, the JBL Live Flex headphones combine comfort, durability, and cutting-edge technology to fit seamlessly into my everyday life. Whether I'm working out, traveling, or just enjoying music, they've quickly become an essential part of my routine.

Great Ear Buds

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have several pairs of ear buds, and the sound quality really stands out. Great bass, it makes it sound so much more natural. I haven't had much of a chance to wear them outside yet. I was watching videos, and didn't want to disturb my wife, watching tv. The noise canceling works well. Our flight next month will be the true test of that feature.

Great sound!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These earbuds have great sound. There are a lot of cool features you can control by touching it in different ways. This is very cool, but it'll take some time to remember them all. I was excited about using these myself, but there is no option to change the size and they were too big for me. My husband loves them, though. You download an app to control the settings. It has a lot of options but it's yet another JBL app. I'm not sure why there needs to be a separate app for each JBL product. These are a great option for adults if they fit.

My GO_TO Buds

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] JBL Live Flex As the years go by the technology improves within the audio field. Compared to what was available say five or six years ago the JBL Live Flex earbuds are no exception. Undeniable improvements over time. And included the noise canceling abilities. Side-note: Even the packaging has improved. OK, out of the box, charge the unit(s). Insert into ears, get the Bluetooth connected and stream music from my cell phone. Hmmm, only so-so in sound. Generally flat and no life. Decent sound, but… Get into the JBL app and the world of sound changes dramatically. Several pre-set equalization available. Personally I preferred the Jazz variation. Then the spatial sound enhancement. Yes it is worth listening, but does not work well with all types of music. An interesting section was sealing earbuds within the ear. Give the program a chance, may be surprised. Logic dictates a lot of R&D went into developing the shape to seal well in the average ear. My ears are not within those parameters. That being said, the units became uncomfortable after an hour or two. All day listening not for me, yet for short term these are my go-to earbuds. I do like the sound produced. On to noise canceling. Recently took a flight on a Boeing 737 and sitting toward the rear. Taxi to the runway was no issue. However the takeoff the JBL's couldn't handle the loud input from the engines. A weird static and crackling. After the initial climb, worked great. And the screaming child three seats in front of me. Well I was in peace. Conversations via phone were easy. Easy to understand both female and male. “nuff said. Now for a suggestion. How about adding some color to the case. On my desk are four sets JBL earbuds, so which one is which? Overall I do appreciate these earbuds. They sound great but wondering where the JBL signature sound has gone. The usual mild warmth is absent. If I was to rate the earbuds, I would give a 4.4 due to ear fitment and the reduced JBL sound.

JBL live flex

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These headphones are great ! They have that premium JBL bass you expect with crisp clear audio ! That being said I work outdoor doing landscaping and these ain't too great for that ! The noise cancellation was good for certain things but not with a blower on ! So as far as not very noisy environments or studying or anything like that these are my go too !

Sleek, Stylish, and Comfortable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very sleek and comfortable to wear. No issues with them falling out while running and you can barely tell there in your ears. Battery life on the ear pods have been great and the case seems to hold a charge beyond the 32 hours.
