I'm an 45 yo Afro-Am woman with oily/acne prone skin and I must say this wash is the BEST at treating my acne. Since I started using it my skin is smooth, clear and with CONSISTENT use (sometimes I get lazy) acne free. I've tried VERY expensive products recommended by dermatologist and estheticians, but NONE have worked better than this one. The 2% SA ingredient does the trick but CAN OVER DRY if you're not careful so it's VERY important to use this product with a lubricant (coca butter/vaseline). The first couple of times I used it, I used it twice a day WITHOUT lubricants so my eyes dried out, my lips were stripped and the tip of nose was flaky and peeling, so I pulled back to once a day and started using lubricants. I'm so glad I didn't give up on this product because the results were so worth it. To prevent drying/peeling of the delicate areas (Eyes, tips of Nose, Mouth) I follow these steps: 1) Apply a SMALL amount of lubricant (I prefer cocoa butter) to eyes, nose and mouth with a cotton ball or Q-tip 2) Apply N's Oil-Free face wash (usually on my cheeks, chin and forehead - where I breakout most). I usually leave the wash on my face for a few seconds. 3) Remove with warm water repeating this step several times. 4) I wash again with a mild soap or gentle face wash to remove product and coca butter residue and then pat dry. I follow-up with an Oil-Free Toner and my face is left feeling clean, fresh, smooth and and acne-free. I use this product ONCE a day (2x per day if I've skipped a day or two and feel like I'm going to have a major breakout). My daughter uses the same product in a cream version (she has dry skin) and it works better for her so be open to trying different versions until you find the perfect mix for you. Hope this helps!

I’ve been using this product for years. My dermatologist recommended it for adult acne. It’s great for my skin type and my 15 & 18 year old daughters use it too. It doesn’t cause us any burning, itching, or peeling, just clear skin. I’ve read reviews that some people have had such issues with this type of Neutrogena Acne Face Wash. This product contains SalicylicAcid and it might not be the right product for sensitive skin, but my experience has been very positive for my combination skin type. I recommend it for acne prone skin, but remember to use moisturizer no matter which face wash you use.

I randomly decided I wanted to try a new cleanser. I’ve done Accutane 2 time about 4 years ago for cystic acne, and have since only gotten the occasional pimple. Now that I wear a mask everyday at work, I’ve been getting more acne around my chin and jaw line. I normally just use Cereve foaming cleanser, which is very gentle and works well. With the increasing breakouts, I wanted something with an acne medication like salicylic acid, so I decided to give it a try. The first night I used it, I woke up and my skin felt pretty good. It even looked a little more clear. Day 2 was fine, a little dryness. I woke up the next morning and went to work. As the day went on, my cheeks felt hot and a little itchy. Next thing I know, my entire face was broken out in a rash that would not go away. Red, painful and bumpy. Tiny whiteheads everywhere. I tried cold compress, Benadryl, hydrocortisone cream, moisturizer, calamine lotion, etc. over the course of 3 days. It just got worse. Now, day 4, it is finally drying up. Still extremely dry and flakey, but the bumps have gone down. Worst reaction I have ever had to a product. Or so I thought. Until I remembered about 4 years when I used Neutrogena pink grapefruit wash with the EXACT same reaction, only slightly more mild that time. These products need to be taken off the shelves. After reading reviews of both this cleanser, and the grapefruit one, I don’t know why it would even still be sold in stores. Do not bother using this product. Stick to cetaphil or cereve. I will never make that mistake again. If I could give zero stars, I would.

I've been using this product for at least 5 years. It has helped control my acne break outs. My face is very sensitive so I have to be careful about what I use. This is gentle enough to use everyday without drying my face out! I was struggling with different products until I tried this one! I would highly recommend this product to everyone, men and women!

This face wash really works to clean stubborn pores, makes your face feel refreshed and smells great. Love that it’s oil free it helps with break outs and helps prevent break outs. I use this to wash my face after using make up wipes to get the residue off.

This product claims oil free and it is oil free and really works for acne prone skin also. I have been using it past three months and it really helps me get rid of acne but there is one issue with it that when I use this if a little amount touches my eyes it bothers me and makes my eyes irritating. But overall it is very light weight non sticky formula very easy to use. It cleans skin very quickly and makes it look more clean. I’ll recommend this product to the oily skin people who have acne prone skin and acne issues.

I love this product!!! With consistent use, I have noticed clearer skin and less random and big breakouts. It is gentle enough for me to use every night, but I do use a gentle cleanser in the A.M. Tip - I have noticed a big difference when I massage my cleanser into my face for a full minute, especial when there are active ingredients.

Neutrogena Hydro boost cleanser is fantastic. It is lightly scented and you only need a small amount to cleanse your face. It leaves your face feeling clean but not dried out. It is an inexpensive alternative to some other high price cleansers on the market.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash with Salicylic Acid claims to effectively treat and prevent acne by gently cleansing the skin and unclogging pores, but in my experience, it failed to deliver on those promises. Despite using it regularly for several weeks, I didn't notice any significant reduction in my acne, and my skin felt uncomfortably dry and tight after each use. The harsh formula seemed to strip my skin of its natural oils, which only made my acne worse in the long run. Overall, I was disappointed with the results and would not recommend this product.
