I had low expectation of the fit of this gate because of the many weird conditions of the bottom of our staircase. If nothing fits, I just bought this one because it's cheaper. But it turned out perfectly for us (note: we used wall protectors): 1) metal bar is thin, so it fits in a space where the clearing of the railing is only a little less than 3/4 of an inch. The edge of the rubber foot is a little outside the railing's edge, but it works, 2) our opening is 39 in, the maximum fit of this gate is 38.5 in, but because we used wall protectors, it fits no problem, without the protectors it seems fine as well, but we didn't tighten everything to try it, 3) unlike the other extra wide easy step gate we had, the hand lever has just the right amount of friction at the pivot, so if I lift it up, it stays up, it makes it easier to open the gate when I don't need to keep the kids out.

We just purchased this gate to use as a pet gate to keep a puppy away from the carpet during training. It has easy to read instructions and easy assembly as well as installation. We wanted a gate that was easy open as we have grandkids that would have trouble opening some gates but the latch does lock if we would need it too. So far we would recommend this gate.

I use this gate to block off my pups from part of my house (cat territory)...the door makes it easy for people to get through, the height is low enough for the cats to jump over, but high enough for the pups to steer clear....great product for a great price....super easy to put together....and Wal-mart delivered it right to my house within two days of me ordering it (standard shipping too!)

I can not say enough good things about this gate. In fact, I love it so much that I immediately ordered another one! Easy installment, opens and closes easily (By an adult), and looks very nice compared to the old school wooden baby gate I had in it's place prior. I was able to easily teach my 6 year old how to open it as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I purchased one gate for our new home. I liked it so much I went ahead and replaced my other gates as well. Easy set up, pressure gate is durable, no one has figured out handle:-). I highly recommend. I can not speak to how the"permanent" screws work as i only use pressue gate.

I researched and read reviews for different types of pressure gates that would be good on the stairs. We have an 18 month old and another on the way and I do not want them on or anywhere near the stairs in our house. We also have a dog what I would like upstairs with us at night and not running all over the house waking the baby up. So after researching I thought this was the best deal. The construction of the gate was very easy to understand but the instructions made it more confusing. Once assembled, it didn't really provide the stability I was looking for. My son came over and one yank it was off. I definitely will pay a little more money now for something more stable. If you are looking for something for less active children and pets this would be good but not for active children at all!

This is a strong and sturdy metal gate that you can walk through. It works great for us...so much that I bought two more! I plan on using them in several places in my house when my baby starts crawling and walking. I love it because you don't have to worry about crossing over it so it allows you to safely hold the baby while going through. I can operate it with one hand but it takes a little practice. It was easy to assemble and comes with some sort if extender, but I haven't used it. I looked at many gates before purchasing and this was the best one for the money. Great value in my opinion! Works great for small dogs too!

I bought this gate to keep my dogs from a section of my house. It works perfectly, even for the biggest dog who weighs 110 pounds! The smallest dog weighs 6 pounds and she cannot get through the bars of the gate. I had a different gate before but the big dog could push it down so I am extremely happy he can't do that with this one. I am also happy with the ease of opening this gate has. It was easy to put up so that is a plus too. I would definitely recommend this gate, whether you need it for a toddler or for your dog, it does the job.

It needs to be screwed into the wall, the pressure mount is great but can not hold up to a walking kiddo who wants to get passed it. It was easy to install the plates though to screw it in place. The only thing I don't like is that it's not easy to open, you almost need two hands-not an easy task if babe is all ready in your arms,

I purchased this for my daughter who is 7 months pregnant. She has a puppy that she keeps gated out of the back bedrooms, and has been stepping over a gate. Not a good proposition in her condition. With this gate she can easily open it and step through instead of climbing over. It will be as convenient when the baby arrives.
