About this item

Heineken Silver is brewed with an ice-cold lagering process at -1° Celsius, which removes proteins and rough-tasting tannins. This eliminates the feeling of drinking a heavy beer and smooths out any bitterness in the flavor profile. Enjoying a light, crisp and refreshing beer sometimes comes at the expense of taste and quality. But with Heineken Silver, say goodbye to compromise. At only 3.2 carbs & 95 calories per 12 fl. oz. serving, Heineken Silver is a crisp refreshing lager with an extra refreshing taste and light subtle finish. Heineken Silver has the same ingredients as Heineken Original but is brewed at a cold temperature to eliminate bitterness from the flavor profile. With only 5 IBUs, Heineken Silver is a smooth and easy to drink beer, brewed with the highest quality standards.

Ingredients

Brewed with uncompromised quality by our world-class brew masters at 4.0% ABV with only premium ingredients: malted barley, water, and hops. Barley is a grain bursting with goodness, containing starch, protein, and fiber. After soaking, the barley is gently heated to dry out over the course of a few days. This meticulous process is called malting. Hops is a plant brimming with flavor. There are many varieties of hops, each with a distinctive flavor, from spicy aromas to mild herbal flavors. Selecting the right crop is an art form in itself. A plant brimming with flavor. There are many varieties of hops, each with a distinctive flavor, from spicy aromas to mild herbal flavors. Brewing Process

Water is mixed with the crushed, malted barley. This creates wort, a sweet sugary liquid, which is then boiled. Then hop extract is added to enhance the flavor. At the right temperature, our unique Heineken A-Yeast® is added, thus starting the natural process of fermentation that converts sugar into alcohol and CO2. This process creates the characteristic balanced Heineken® taste. Our Heineken A-Yeast® is happiest with a large surface area which is possible in our horizontal fermentation tanks. We take 28 days to brew Heineken. To get the perfectly balanced taste, refreshing clarity and beautiful golden-yellow color. Quality takes time, it's worth it.

Company History

Gerard Adriaan Heineken is born into an Amsterdam merchant family in 1841. In 1864 he buys brewery ‘De Hooiberg’ (The Haystack) in Amsterdam and immediately turns his focus towards brewing uncompromised premium lager beer. He embraces the latest brewing innovations and becomes the first brewer on the planet to introduce a quality control lab. He also did a lot for the city of Amsterdam.

Heineken won the medal D’Or at the International Maritime Exhibition in 1875 and in 1889 Their pilsner won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Paris Expo. In 1890 Heineken started supplying the restaurant at the Eiffel Tower. In 1933 a ship full of Heineken beer sailed to New York just as prohibition was lifted, making Heineken the 1st import beer available.

Sustainability

In 1963 the world bottle (WOBO) was designed that allowed the bottle to be reused as a brick for building houses which could’ve resulted in less litter and efficient up-cycling of materials. Technical hurdles after the first trial production in 1965, prevented the concept from being implemented. This initiative is just one of many though. As a worldwide known brand that is served in 192 countries, Heineken takes responsibility and aims to be sustainable in everything we do. By protecting water resources, reducing CO2 emissions, sourcing sustainably and advocating responsible consumption, we are 'brewing a better world'.

  • Heineken is brewed from premium malted barley with 67% of all the barley and 97% of hops comes from sustainable sources, and in France we’re already at 100%. The barley grains that are left over after brewing beer, are not wasted. It’s used to feed cattle; they love it.
  • At our Den Bosch (NL) brew house, we opened in 2019 the world’s largest solar panel park on the site of a brewery. In Austria we now have 2 breweries working on 100% renewable energy.
  • We minimize the amount of material we use, and all our carton packs are FSC certified “green”. Glass (bottles 57% recycled glass) and aluminum (cans 48% recycled aluminum). In Brazil our cans are already made out of more than 95% recycled aluminum.
