For the best results with attaching a new pad, be sure that you have the correct refill pad for the device you have, and that the printed side of the pad is facing the mop head and the white and purple strips are facing the floor when you go to apply it. We're so very sorry to hear about this, Patti. With our quality checks, this isn't what we expect especially if the cardboard is remove. If you have not done so already, check the silicone cap, and If the cap is bulging, try unscrewing/rotating the purple cap counterclockwise by 180 degrees. After this step, tilt the bottle on its side for 2-3 seconds to check for liquid leakage. If there is no leakage, insert the bottle into the device. If there is leakage, move the bottle upright, screw back on 180 degrees or rotate clockwise to reclose. Retry the insertion into the device.
