Didn't last a year
We bought this freezer last year and it worked well... until it didn't. My dogs kept going to our back room and I noticed they kept lapping up a puddle by the freezer. The freezer completely went out and ruined all the food we had stored in it. It's ridiculous it didn't last longer. I definitely don't recommend this cheap freezer, unless you want hundreds of dollars worth of food spoiled. My in-laws bought a used freezer that has survived in their garage for over 30 years.
Just what we needed
Puch. 11/20/2021. Previously had a 5.5 cu. ft. chest freezer, but was too hard to "FIFO" items stacked inside. So replaced it with this upright, which is much easier organize and manage by shelf. Perfect size for our needs, and economical. FYI for those considering this model: the shelf levels are not adjustable, the refrigerant coils are in each level. Maintains even cold inside without using a fan to circulate air = very quiet. Interior dimensions are 16" wide x 14" deep x 7" high between each shelf, save for the very bottom area which is 16" x 7 1/2" x 9". So not enough room for very large items like a big whole turkey that could go in the same cu. ft. sized chest freezer.
Hi lemming 51- thank you for the concise review of the Thomson Upright Freezer.<br />As you stated, there are benefits and detriments to both Upright and Chest type freezers.
May NOT restart after a SHORT power outage!
We had this freezer LESS than a month when we lost a couple hundred dollars worth of meat! I noticed a water puddle one morning in front of our freezer. When I opened it, every thing was thawed and the freezer was not on! It did NOT come with an owner's manual so I had to look for it online. It said that if the power is out for less than 3 minutes, the freezer may not restart! We had a power outage 3 days before that only lasted a couple of seconds and the freezer did not restart! We did not know about this flaw in the design and had a freezer load of meat thaw on us! We had a bad stormy season this spring and the freezer has not restarted on us TWICE more in the last couple of months! At least we know now to check. NOT HAPPY!

Not happy
I had this one for about 1 1/2 years. It quit cooling and appears to have lost its coolant. It has no connections to add any. After reading other reviews about the company not helping, I didn’t try to contact them. I suspect it would cost more to fix it than what it’s worth. It’s going to the landfill.

Terrible freezer - don't buy
Had a little over a year - freezer died while we were out of town - major mess and at least $500 lost in frozen meat and foods. Will not purchase this brand ever again. Very poor quality - you get what you pay for and this is one cheap piece of junk.

Nice freezer but STOPPED working within 6 months
This is a nice, compact, slim freezer but it STOPPED working within 6 months!! A lot of money and food and time wasted!!! Waste of money and hassle trying to find someone to help me return with their SUV. Sam's Club store clerk gave me a hard time about returning it so I called for the manager who told her to give me a refund. Had she not, that would have been the last time I paid membership to Sam's Club. Never again will I purchase an off-brand appliance. Not worth the wasted money, disposed food and time cleaning up the melted ice cream.

Great Garage Freezer
I bought this freezer 2 years ago and it has worked well. It's the perfect size for the garage. My only complaint is that I wish this was a frost-free freezer, as now I have to try to find space to store everything in it to clean out the frost. On the plus side, this is the first time I have had to do this in two years. Normally I keep this very full, but I recently cleaned it out. Upon cleanout, I guess I made room for the frost to accumulate. Overall, I would still buy this again.
Hi Amy, we are happy to hear you are pleased with your Thomson Upright Freezer. It sounds like you knocked your door out of alignment when you cleaned your freezer or perhaps the door or hinge have become loose. Here's a tutorial on how to reduce the accumulation of frost in your freezer:How to Reduce & Resolve Frost Buildup in Upright Freezers, Refrigerator and Freezer Compartments of Refrigerators.Frost occurs when moisture in ambient air touches the cold evaporator coils, metal shelves and interior sides of a freezer or refrigerator.Steps you can take to reduce frost build up:Move your hand around the outside of the freezer/refrigerator door. If you feel cold air, then the door is not sealing adequately. You can adjust the door by loosening the top hinge to reposition/adjust the freezer door to create a tight seal.Adjust the front levelling feet of your unit such that the front of the unit is slightly higher than the rear. Gravity will assist the door to close with a proper seal.TIP: Close the door on a dollar bill (or similar). The dollar bill should not easily pull out - there should be some resistance. Perform the “Dollar Bill Test” on the top, both sides, & bottom of your freezer door, and adjust accordingly.Do not over fill your freezer to prevent food items from shifting and preventing the freezer door from closing properly.Place only cool or cold food items in your refrigerator or freezer. Hot foods introduce humidity into the food storage compartment, which contributes to frost build up. Allow hot foods to cool before placing them in the refrigerator or freezer.Wrap foods tightly with plastic wrap. Butcher paper is not an adequate wrapping material. Glass container lids typically do not provide a proper seal.Dry the exterior of food before storing. By the time you reach home after purchasing frozen foods, the food items may have defrosted a bit and moisture may have already developed on packaging. Reduce the amount of time the door remains open. Labelling and organizing your foods so you can easily identify them will help shorten the number and duration of freezer trips. Set the freezer temperature so the freezers interior compartment stays around 0F (-18C), as higher and lower temperature settings contribute to frost build up.Door Seal Care:Keep the door seal clean. You can clean your door seal with a solution of one tsp of baking soda to a quart of lukewarm water. Pour the solution onto a clean sponge, and wipe it over the seal. Sponge off the solution with clear water and dry the seal with a clean cloth before closing the freezer door.Keep the door seal flexible by lubricating it with some petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline). Wipe it on and wipe it off with a clean dry cloth.
Great for making SNOW!
We bought this freezer, stood it upright (unplugged) for 48 hours and finally cooled it and filled it. What a BIG disappointment to find it filled with snow! All of our food is covered with layers of it. I emptied, defrosted, wiped it down, and the next time made it warmer to avoid the sow. We crossed our fingers.....UGH!! MORE SNOW! Definitely going to return!

Not happy
We bought this freezer to store breast milk. When it came, it was all dented and beat up but we didn’t complain because it was only cosmetic. Well, we have Had it two weeks and it stopped working and all my milk I had saved was ruined. Called to return it. They offered to exchange it. The lady didn’t send the shipping label so I had to call yet again. they also charges my card again until the old one is returned. Would not recommend this product. So disappointing.
Upright freezer
I have the same problem as others. I had this unit about a year and it stopped working. Lost all the frozen foods. Need a better warranty before I would consider getting another one. The size was ideal but that is the only positive thing I can say about it.
