Upright Freezer
This is great if you have a smaller area & you want a bit more freezer space. The very bottom shelf could use a roll out basket & be nice if the shelves were remove or even adjustable. As others have mentioned there not. So don't plan to use it for large cuts of meats like a big turkey. Won't fit... getting the gallon of ice cream in is a challenge but can be done...make sure the handful faces out to make removing it easier, lesson learned lol. There for deals you can hear it, like a little vacuum seal. See many got and had issues. But I had none. I did as the manufacturer said & waited the 24 hours before plugging it in. 🤔 So that may be others issue if they didn't. 🤔 Now that it's getting warmer out side I've noticed some ice crystal at the top of the seal so I washed the door seal to see if that helps. Super quiet 🤫 once plugged in. Only sound I hear is when I close the door & you can hear some sort of sealing but that quite after a couple minutes. Would buy again. (Next model out basket in bottom, few shallow shelves in the door for easier access to things like butter & chocolate chips & adjustable shelves. If pay a bit more for those amenities.)
Hi MTChrm. Thank you for your comprehensive review of your Thomson Upright Freezer. This unit has the cooling coils affixed to the shelves for support and cooling efficiency. As such, the shelves are fixed and can't be moved. Here's a tutorial on how to adjust your door seal to address issues of condensation and frost accumulation:How to Reduce & Resolve Frost Buildup in Upright Freezers, Refrigerator and Freezer Compartments of Refrigerators.Frost occurs when moisture in ambient air touches the cold evaporator coils, metal shelves and interior sides of a freezer or refrigerator.Steps you can take to reduce frost build up:Move your hand around the outside of the freezer/refrigerator door. If you feel cold air, then the door is not sealing adequately. You can adjust the door by loosening the top hinge to reposition/adjust the freezer door to create a tight seal.Adjust the front levelling feet of your unit such that the front of the unit is slightly higher than the rear. Gravity will assist the door to close with a proper seal.TIP: Close the door on a dollar bill (or similar). The dollar bill should not easily pull out - there should be some resistance. Perform the “Dollar Bill Test” on the top, both sides, & bottom of your freezer door, and adjust accordingly.Do not over fill your freezer to prevent food items from shifting and preventing the freezer door from closing properly.Place only cool or cold food items in your refrigerator or freezer. Hot foods introduce humidity into the food storage compartment, which contributes to frost build up. Allow hot foods to cool before placing them in the refrigerator or freezer.Wrap foods tightly with plastic wrap. Butcher paper is not an adequate wrapping material. Glass container lids typically do not provide a proper seal.Dry the exterior of food before storing. By the time you reach home after purchasing frozen foods, the food items may have defrosted a bit and moisture may have already developed on packaging. Reduce the amount of time the door remains open. Labelling and organizing your foods so you can easily identify them will help shorten the number and duration of freezer trips. Set the freezer temperature so the freezers interior compartment stays around 0F (-18C), as higher and lower temperature settings contribute to frost build up.Door Seal Care:Keep the door seal clean. You can clean your door seal with a solution of one tsp of baking soda to a quart of lukewarm water. Pour the solution onto a clean sponge, and wipe it over the seal. Sponge off the solution with clear water and dry the seal with a clean cloth before closing the freezer door.Keep the door seal flexible by lubricating it with some petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline). Wipe it on and wipe it off with a clean dry cloth.
Only worked for 1 week after plugging it in!!!
We have been searching for a vertical freezer that would allow us the store more food. One week after plugging in the freezer I noticed that it stops freezing and all the food on the inside spoiled. Extremely disappointed because I normally never have issues with items excepted by Sam’s Club. We did all the trouble shooting steps multiple times.

Build up around control
I returned one because it was dented. The replacement freezer exterior was fine. The freezer freezes the food well but I constantly have ice buildup at the top of the door and around the control. I clean around the control daily but should not have to but otherwise it freezes well and holds more than I expected.
Disappointed...Not working after 1.5 months
Great freezer to start with but after one and half months, it stopped working. First, it was the top shelve that stop working, then second, then the whole freezer is not cold anymore. There's a lot of ice buildup and I tried to empty out the freezer and defrost it but still no help.

Bad Design
I really wanted to like this, unfortunately the door was very poorly designed. It has maybe two inch pins holding it together on the top and bottom of the door as the hinge. The bottom of our freezer came slightly broken with the pin on the bottom sagging causing the door to fall off.

Not good
First of all, it was damaged when we opened the box. I know we should have returned it but we made it work. Aside from that, it doesn't seal properly. It constantly has frost build up. Of course by the time I decided to actually deal with it I am a month outside the return policy.
Hi Alia4 - the frost build up is caused by an improper door seal. Try running your hand around the outside of the freezer door where it meets the body of the freezer - do you feel cold air anywhere around the edge of the door? You can also try closing the freezer door on a dollar bill on several spots around the edge of the door - there should be significant resistance when you pull the dollar bill out. You can adjust the freezer door by loosening the top hinge and pulling the door closer to the body of the freezer and tightening the hinge again. You can also adjust the front legs so the front of the freezer is a bit higher than the rear so that gravity helps keep the door closed.
Seal around door leaks and condensation forms.
Have had freezer one week and am not pleased with the quality of door and leaking seal. After having to haul it home and set up it is just to much trouble to return. Will not recommend product. There was a dark dirty looking spot on seal out of the box.
Hi Bush - you can adjust the door seal to eliminate leaking as follows: 1. Adjust the front legs so the front of the freezer is higher than the rear - this way gravity will aid in keeping the door closed. 2. Loosen the top &/or bottom hinge plates and draw the door toward the freezer and tighten the screws. 3. Close the door on a dollar bill at several locations around the exterior of the door - if the dollar bill pulls out easily, the door is out of adjustment. 4. You can lubricate the door gasket with some petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to keep it pliable.
Thomson Upright Freezer
I am enjoying my freezer! Like that it has 5 shelves and bottom part to put food on. I can categorize each shelf to what goes on each shelf. I didn't give it 5 because although I found out it suctions the door when closed so cool air stays in...its a bit difficult to open for my small frame. A great feature to have but wish it had an handle instead. Still like freezer though!

Better then expected
I thought I would be able to remove the shelves and make my own sizes but that's not the case. The shelves are the cooling coils, so everything gets cold evenly (Nice surprise). But I am having an issue with the door sealing I am going to need to look at putting something at the top seam to stop warm air coming in and freezing over. Every time I open it (once a day) there is condensation and dripping moisture, only in that area. I wish it had a locking device, I have looked and thought about what I could do to help keep it secure with a tight seal.
Works but has Quality Issues
Picked this product up directly for my local Sam's Club. Was careful with loading and unloading but the freezer came with a pretty large dent/damage at the bottom right of the freezer door even though the cardboard box appeared fine. Fortunately this did not seem to impact its functionality. The freezer was easy to set up and does get cold, although it takes awhile to get there. I like the profile of the freezer and being upright also has its advantages. Note there is no automatic defrost and the shelves are not removable/adjustable since the wires are built into the shelves. It works for now but longevity may be an issue down the line, e.g. the external panels run hot while the interior runs lukewarm cold at max freeze setting. Other reviewers are probably accurate in their assessment. I would not recommend purchasing this product given the condition I received mine in.
