Waste of money

Initially I was very happy with this freezer. It’s very compact and offered just the right amount storage. You get what you pay for. It stopped working after one year and three months. I lost so much money. I’m out a freezer and all of the food that was in there.

Poor door seal

I actually own 2 of these. Poor door seal. The weatherstrip seal on the door is actually to small and it allows outside air to get into the freezer and frost it up. There was so much frost in mine that I had to physically pry the door open. Also runs very hot.

Hello Greg, we appreciate your feedback and would like to apologize for your recent experience with the Thomson Upright Freezer. We pride ourselves on our high-quality standards and regret that our product did not live up to your expectations. The freezer uses the cabinet to dissipate the heat the refrigeration system removes from the freezer compartment. Please make certain you allow adequate ventilation clearance for heat dissipation (12" on the top and 4" sides and rear). Here's a tutorial on how to reduce frost and condensation in refrigerators and freezers:How to Reduce & Resolve Frost Buildup in Upright Freezers, Refrigerator and Freezer Compartments of Refrigerators.Frost occurs when moisture in ambient air touches the cold evaporator coils, metal shelves and interior sides of a freezer or refrigerator.Steps you can take to reduce frost build up:Move your hand around the outside of the freezer/refrigerator door. If you feel cold air, then the door is not sealing adequately. You can adjust the door by loosening the top hinge to reposition/adjust the freezer door to create a tight seal.Adjust the front levelling feet of your unit such that the front of the unit is slightly higher than the rear. Gravity will assist the door to close with a proper seal.TIP: Close the door on a dollar bill (or similar). The dollar bill should not easily pull out - there should be some resistance. Perform the “Dollar Bill Test” on the top, both sides, & bottom of your freezer door, and adjust accordingly.Do not over fill your freezer to prevent food items from shifting and preventing the freezer door from closing properly.Place only cool or cold food items in your refrigerator or freezer. Hot foods introduce humidity into the food storage compartment, which contributes to frost build up. Allow hot foods to cool before placing them in the refrigerator or freezer.Wrap foods tightly with plastic wrap. Butcher paper is not an adequate wrapping material. Glass container lids typically do not provide a proper seal.Dry the exterior of food before storing. By the time you reach home after purchasing frozen foods, the food items may have defrosted a bit and moisture may have already developed on packaging. Reduce the amount of time the door remains open. Labelling and organizing your foods so you can easily identify them will help shorten the number and duration of freezer trips. Set the freezer temperature so the freezers interior compartment stays around 0F (-18C), as higher and lower temperature settings contribute to frost build up.Door Seal Care:Keep the door seal clean. You can clean your door seal with a solution of one tsp of baking soda to a quart of lukewarm water. Pour the solution onto a clean sponge, and wipe it over the seal. Sponge off the solution with clear water and dry the seal with a clean cloth before closing the freezer door.Keep the door seal flexible by lubricating it with some petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline). Wipe it on and wipe it off with a clean dry cloth.

Disappointed

I boughg it yesterday and live 45 min away from the store. I had scratches all over it, the bottom door hinge was completely bent. Had to remand it to even get the door to stay on. There are only adjustable feet on the from of the freezer. Some of the door hing screws were put in at an angel and stripped, so i am having to adjust and repair this also. Very disappointed in the product for the size and price. Woudnt buy again

2 years later Still going Strong!

I purchased thisvertical freezer 2 years ago and it is still running strong! We store it in our garage for overflow veggies and breads and has been fabulous! Door seals so tight, sometimes it's a hard tug to open. Frost has built up, but after 2 years, no problem rolling it out to the driveway and letting it defrost. Wish it was about 1 inch wider inside to accomodate half sheet pans.
